AP World History 2017-2018 Summer Assignment The AP World History course is broken into 6 historical periods. For the purpose of this summer assignment, you will get an introduction to the first three periods. For each period you will label some important places on a blank world map and also define/explain different terms that are specific to that time period. This assignment will be due 08/17 (Purple) and 8/18 (Teal) along with a quiz. Together, the assignment and quiz will equate to a test grade. Search using Google, but DO NOT use Wikipedia. You may find the following website helpful: http://www.freemanpedia.com/overview2/ (You can click on the different periods, obtain a brief overview, and click on extra links for more info). Video Assignment Crash Course World History, found on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=plbda2e52fb1ef80c9) REMEMBER: all rules of writing apply grammar, punctuation, spelling, full sentences. You also need to FULLY answer the question you are asked; and answers are expected to be honors level. What does honors level mean? It means you don t just give an answer of a few words that covers the surface details you go deeper. You go beyond the obvious and you give evidentiary support. Evidentiary support means you give details from the video to support your answer/argument VIEW ALL OF THE FOLLOWING VIDEOS: CCWH Indus River 1. What characteristics make a civilization? 2. What evidence was discussed that supports the idea that, human life is all about collaboration? (remember give an honors worthy answer) CCWH Ancient Egypt 1. Why was the Nile so important how did it shape the world view of Egyptians? (start with the obvious, but then - go beyond the obvious ) 2. How were the three kingdoms different from each other? CCWH 2000 Yrs Chinese History 1. How did the Mandate of Heaven affect Chinese History (or the perception of it)? 2. How did Confucius and/or Confucianism affect China at the time but also through to today? CCWH Mesopotamia 1. Why was writing so important? What kind of impact did writing have on Mesopotamia and the world past this time? 2. What s the biggest problem with Empires??? Why is this an issue/problem? CCWH Persians and Greeks 1. How did the Greeks affect YOUR life today???? (Evidentiary support people!!!!!!! You MUST back this answer up!) 2. What were the Persian wars about REALLY? And how did these wars help to create Greece? CCWH Alexander the Great 1. What does it mean to be Great?...use evidentiary support from the video to support your argument. And as always start with the obvious, but then think beyond the basic/obvious 2. How did Alexander the Great affect the world then and does/did that effect last through to modern times?
