Welcome to Farringdon Independent Church Thank you for being with us today. Everything you need for the service can be found in this booklet and in the hymn book at your seat in the church: the red Worship & Rejoice hymn book. Our service is typically about an hour. If you are looking for a spiritual home, we have a variety of services and programs to meet your needs. Please introduce yourself to the morning greeters or the hosts at coffee time in Narthex (front lobby) or to Rev. Vern Tozer & Rev. Wes Coburn after the service to learn more about what this church has to offer. If it turns out that Farringdon is not the right place for you, we will help you identify alternatives to explore. Washrooms are located on the lower level, either a barrier-free washroom below the Narthex, accessible via the elevator or stairs, or in the Christian Education wing - just ask one of the greeters for directions. Children`s programming during Fall, Winter and Spring occurs each week, with the children coming forward during the 2nd Hymn for a Children`s Time then on to Sunday School. Nursery age children are cared for the entire service, however, if your child would like to remain with you for the service that`s great too. Ask about our three, free mid-week young Christians nights. The Collection plate at Farringdon is a responsibility of members and adherents. You are welcome to make a financial contribution to support our ministries, however, if you are visiting us for the first time, we wouldn't expect you to make a financial gift anyway - we'd rather ask you to pay attention to God's blessings in your life, return next week, and make your gift then. If it is the 1st Sunday of the month, Christmas or Easter, we celebrate Corporate Communion, meaning all assembled sharing in the Holy Feast. The procedure for communion distribution is to each pew, and consuming all together. We believe our Lord Jesus Christ gave us a new commandment to serve as Jesus served, therefore in symbolic representation of this when communion, in bread and wine, is distributed the plate is passed to the second last person in the row and served to the last, then passed onward toward the middle where each person is served communion. You are welcome to share in the bread and wine at communion. The sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated immediately following the Morning Worship and Greeting at the door. All Christians are welcome. The service is brief. Please join us for refreshments after the service in the Narthex. Just follow the crowd and join in as a welcome child of God. If you are visiting for the first time, please let us know as we have a welcome gift for you. Page - 1 -

Leader: The humble shall hear and be glad. Glorify the Lord with us. Together let us praise God s name. People: We sought the Lord and were heard, from all our fears set free. Page - 2 -

Prayer of Invocation Leader: Look toward God and be radiant; let your faces not be ashamed. When the poor cry out, the Lord hears them and rescues them from all their distress. People: Taste and see that the Lord is good. They are happy who seek refuge in God. First Hymn: O Valiant Hearts O valiant hearts who to your glory came Through dust of conflict and through battle flame; Tranquil you lie, your knightly virtue proved, Your memory hallowed in the land you loved. Proudly you gathered, rank on rank, to war As who had heard God s message from afar; All you had hoped for, all you had, you gave, To save mankind yourselves you scorned to save. Splendid you passed, the great surrender made; Into the light that nevermore shall fade; Deep your contentment in that blest abode, Who wait the last clear trumpet call of God. Long years ago, as earth lay dark and still, Rose a loud cry upon a lonely hill, While in the frailty of our human clay, Christ, our Redeemer, passed the self same way. Still stands His Cross from that dread hour to this, Like some bright star above the dark abyss; Still, through the veil, the Victor s pitying eyes Look down to bless our lesser Calvaries. These were His servants, in His steps they trod, Following through death the martyred Son of God: Victor, He rose; victorious too shall rise Page - 3 -

We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Last Post Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. Too often have we thus both offended and grieved you, O long-suffering Father. Forgive us this sin and permit us to partake of the blessing you have promised the peacemakers, Page - 5 -
