It is mentioned in the Domesday Book and is believed to originate in Saxon times. The main body of the present building (at least the third on the site) dates from the end of the reign of Edward III (1377) to that of Henry VII (1485-1509). The entire nave was finished before 1475 and is notable for its uniformity of style. St Mary s ministers to many different groups; in addition to its civic status it is the University Church for the University of Nottingham and several schools and organizations hold annual services there. In recent years St Mary s has become the venue for a wide range of concerts and public performances. The Anglican Choral Tradition is held in great esteem - a combination of fine local singers and Choral Scholars allows the Choir to maintain the highest standard at all sung services. Further information regarding the Choir can be found at www.stmaryschoirnottingham.com The Church is fitted with a hearing induction loop for those who are hearing impaired. Simply switch your hearing aid to the T position. The use of cameras, recording equipment, video cameras and mobile telephones is not permitted during services. [2]
