Duties of the Kinsman Redeeming the Land Redeeming a Brother Jesus as Kinsman Redeemer Redeemer Redeem the land X Ruth 4, Lev. 25:1-28 Redeem the person X Ruth 4, Lev. 25:47-55 **There is a cost- the Kinsman buys it back** Conditions of the Kinsman Redeemer *Willing to pay *Able to pay Exodus 6:1-8 The Lord says He will redeem From the Egyptians From bondage, slavery With His outstretched arm and great judgements The Israelites will be His people, He will be their God He will bring them to the land He swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob- He will give it to them as a possession There is a cost for this redemption! Joshua 18:1-10- the rest of the land is divided for possession *Remember the Abrahamic Covenant- the land is an everlasting possession! How does that help us understand Leviticus 25:1-28? V1-7- the land is to have a Sabbath They were to sow the land for six years but let the land rest in the 7 th year in Slavery *Remember Exodus 6:1-8- God redeemed His people to give them the land He promised *He was redeeming His people out of bondage, out of slavery X Gen. 15:12-18 X Exodus 2:23-25, Exodus 12:40 Israel was in Egypt 430 years- 400 of that was spent in bondage The Lord was about to reveal Himself in Israel in a new way Exodus 6:3, 6-7- the people knew Him as God Almighty- they will know Him as LORD Almighty- powerful LORD- self existent one, one true God of ALL Exodus 6:1- under compulsion- What does the Lord do to get Pharaoh to let His people go? Exodus 12 & 13- The Passover: Luke 1:67-75- the Lord is going to accomplish redemption through Jesus Luke 2:38- Jesus is the promised one- He is the redeemer Luke 24:25- Jesus is the Redeemer Romans 3:23-24- Jesus is the Redeemer from all sin Eph. 1:7- Christ s blood brings redemption for our sins Col. 1:14- In Jesus, we have redemption, the forgiveness of sin The Word is clear- it is Jesus who redeems us from our sin! What does sin do to us? John 8:34- binds us, enslaves us John 1:28-29- Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world 1 Cor 5:7- Because Christ our Passover has been sacrificed, I am without sin! //Jesus with Exodus Passover: Jesus is the spotless, unblem-

In the sixth year the Lord would so bless the crops that they could live off the harvest for the 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th years V8-22- Jubilee year The 50 th year was a Jubilee when everything reverted to its original state A sabbatical with no sowing or reaping- it was holy V23-28- provision for redemption If a man of Israel became so poor that he sold his property, his inheritance, provision was made in the law that a kinsman could buy it back Redemption price was calculated according to the number of years to the next jubilee **The land could not be sold permanently because it belonged to the Lord- He gave it for an everlasting possession, an everlasting inheritance to whom He chose 12:3- they are to take a lamb for each household 12:4-they are to completely partake of the lamb 12:5- unblemished male, a year old, taken from the sheep or the goats 12:6- they are to keep it 4 days, on the 4 th day it is to be killed at twilight 12:7- the blood of the lamb is to be put on the doorpost and lintel of the house in which they eat of it - the Lord would pass over that house * the lamb was roasted and eaten in haste on same night- Passover feast is a memorial of that timeit s still eaten today- a permanent ordinance in Israel The Lord delivered the people from bondage He also made provision that His people should be redeemed after entering the promised land Lev 25:47-55 A blood relative, a kinsman, could ished lamb I have to completely partake of this lamb- I must submit everything to His leadership and authority Lamb killed at twilight, Jesus killed at twilight The blood of the lamb covers my sin- because of the blood of Christ, death passes over me- I will live forever with Him There was to be no leaven, no sin- Christ makes me a new creation with no sin Israelites were delivered from bondage- I am delivered from the bondage of sin- I don t have to live in bondage to my flesh or my desires- Christ has set me free! John 8:36 Who needs to be set free? Romans 3:9-18, 23- ALL Who is the only one who can set us free? Acts 4:12- Jesus! Jesus our kinsman?

Numbers 27:8-11, 36:7-9 The Lord makes provision for inheritance to those who had no son The land stayed with the tribe The land was not to change owners permanently- it was the Lord s- only He could give it away!!! Who does Israel belong to today? God is sovereign! God has a plan! ALL I have belongs to the Lord!!! redeem one who sold himself into slavery paying a price to the one he sold himself to- *the people could not be permanent slaves because they belonged to the Lord and He had redeemed them from slavery- at jubilee they were to be released **the people couldn t be permanent slaves because they belonged to the Lord God is sovereign God has a plan! God chooses His people X John 15:16 X Ephesians 1:4-5 Luke 1:30-35- conceived by the Holy Spirit (fully God), Born of a woman in the flesh (fully man) Hebrews 2:17-18- made like His brethren in all things- merciful and faithful High Priest- in order to make propitiation for the sins of His people **JESUS IS ABLE TO REDEEM** Was He willing? Phil 2:5-11 Jesus existed in the form of God but He did not regard His equality with God as something to be grasped He emptied Himself, He took on the form of a bond servant, being made in the likeness of man He further humbled Himself by being obedient unto death, EVEN death on a cross Therefore, God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue

will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the Glory of God the Father!!!!! John 10:14-18 Jesus is the Good Shepherd He lays down His life for His sheep He lays down His life and He takes it up again- He does it of His own initiative No one has the power to take His life He has the authority to lay it down and He has the authority to pick it up again Hallelujah!!! **JESUS IS WILLING TO REDEEM** Our redemption comes at a price X Hebrews 9:12-14- the blood of Christ X Lev 17:11- life is in the blood, blood makes atonement for our souls X Hebrews 9:22- without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin X 1 Peter 1:18-19- not redeemed

with perishable things such as silver or gold BUT with the precious blood as of a lamb unblemished and spotless- the lamb of Christ! Acts 20:28- The church of Christ was purchased with His own blood **JESUS WAS ABLE TO PAY THE PRICE** How then shall I live? Titus 2:14- zealous for good deeds Galatians 2:20- as though I recognize the glory and miracle of Christ s sacrifice- Not for me, for Him!
