PUPPET SCRIPTS SEPTEMBER UNIT 1 SESSION 1 September 2, 2012 Have the Frog SAY: I think Moses and I are a lot alike because we ve both spent time in water. I live in the water, and Moses was a baby in a basket in the water. I want all of you to stand up and pretend that you re a drop of water. Stand up straight and tall. Now fall slowly down until you hit the water. When you hit the water (the floor), lie down and float in the water. Moses was kept safe in the water because his mother fixed his basket so that it would float. Moses sister, Miriam, and the princess took care of him. God sends people into our lives to take care of us. God is good to us. Let s pray: PRAY: Thank you, God, for giving us people who take care of us. Amen. SESSION 2 September 9, 2012 Have the Frog SAY: In today s Bible story, God told Moses to lead the people. God wanted Moses to help the people. At first, Moses was scared and did not think he could do the job, but God told Moses that God would be with him. Sometimes we all need to help people. Let s say a rhyme, and when we stop, each one of you may say how you can be a helper. The rhyme is: I can help, and you can, too. I can help. This is what I ll do. I ll. (TIP: The children may need help thinking of ways they can help. Some suggestions are: brush my teeth, make my bed, pick up my toys, turn off the lights when they are not needed, set the table for meals, go to bed without whining.) Have the Frog SAY: Wow! I can tell that you are all good helpers. Why don t you help at home this week? When you come back next week, you can tell what you did to help at home. Good-bye, and have a helpful week! SESSION 3 September 16, 2012 Have the Frog SAY: In today s Bible story, it sounds like frogs are a bad thing, but we know that frogs are really a GOOD thing. Frogs can jump, swim, eat flies, and croak! I m a frog, and I love being a frog, and I m a GOOD frog. I d like to see all of you get up, jump like frogs, and say: ribbit, ribbit. (Let the children spend a few minutes jumping and ribbiting, then call them back together for a prayer.) PRAY: Dear God, thank you for being with us in good times and in bad times. We know that you love us, God; and we love you, too. Amen.

SESSION 4 September 23, 2012 Have the Frog SAY: In today s Bible story, Moses and the people had to hurry to leave Egypt. (Have the puppet lead the children in the following movement poem.) CONTINUE: We cannot be so slow. (Have the Frog tell the children to shake their heads, no. ) Moses says it s TIME to GO! (Have the Frog tell the children to point in the distance.) We re leaving here today. (Have the Frog tell the children to turn around.) God will lead us all the way. (Have the Frog tell the children to cross their arms over their chests.) When we get safely out of Egypt, we ll take a rest and pray. (Have the Frog tell the children to sit and rest.) SESSION 5 September 30, 2012 Have the Frog SAY: In today s Bible story, Miriam and the people danced and celebrated after they crossed the Red Sea. Sometimes I like to hop when I am very happy and want to celebrate. I am going to say some things to you, and if you think they are hoppy things, hop up and down! If you think they are sad things, lay down on the floor. Have the Frog SAY: You are hoppy because you are in Sunday school. (Children hop.) You are hoppy because Moses and the people made crossed the Red Sea. (Children hop.) You are not hoppy because you left your favorite toy at home. (Children lay down.) You are hoppy because you get to hear Bible stories in Sunday school. (Children hop.) You are hoppy because God loves you. (Children hop.) Have the Frog SAY: Some things make us hoppy, and some things make us not so hoppy; but whether we are hoppy or sad, God is always with us and loves us.

OCTOBER UNIT 2 SESSION 6 October 7, 2012 THE FROG SPEAKS OUT FOR MISSIONS Make copies of the Letter to Parents (Leader s Guide p. 121) for each child to take home. The letter explains the month s mission project. Have the Frog SAY: If I had been a Hebrew, I would not have lived very long in the desert wilderness because what do frogs need in order to survive? (water) What do people need in order to survive? (Accept all answers, but focus on water. ) Hoppily, I live in a pond where there is plenty of water. I would like each of you to come up here, one by one, and get a cup of water. After you finish drinking the water, we will say a prayer. Clean water is very important because drinking dirty water will make you sick. Our mission project helps provide clean water for families in a country called Nicaragua. You will take a note home to your parents telling them about this mission project. You can bring money each week to help with this project. PRAY: Thank you, God, for giving us clean water. Amen. SESSION 7 October 14, 2012 Have the Frog SAY: I would like you to join with me and count to ten: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Now I would like you to hop up and down ten times. Now I would like you to touch your toes ten times. Thanks for doing those ten things with me. In today s Bible story, God gave Moses and the Hebrews ten rules to live by. They were good rules, and God wants us to follow them today. God loves us enough to help us live happy and healthy lives by giving us good rules. Let s thank God right now for the BIG TEN! (Let the children stand up and cheer!) PRAY: Thank you, God, for loving us so much that you care about how we live. With your help, we will obey all the Ten Commandments. Amen. SESSION 8 October 21, 2012 THE FROG TALKS ABOUT EL PORVENIR Have the Frog SAY: When I go to church, I often pray for people who don t have all the things they need to have healthy lives. This month we are collecting money to send to families in a country called Nicaragua. We are going to help a mission project called El Porvenir. One of the things our money will be used for is to teach children how to wash their hands. It s hard for frogs to wash their hands, but humans can do it! Show the children the pictures on page 121 of the Leader s Guide, and let the children pretend to wash their hands. PRAY: Dear God, thank you for our church building, and help us remember those children who need so much. Amen. Collect any offerings for El Porvenir. Send home the Letter to Parents (Leader s Guide p. 121) with any child who has not taken one home yet. Remind everyone that they can bring an offering next week for El Porvenir.

SESSION 9 October 28, 2012 Have the Frog SAY: Boys and girls, I want to thank you, thank you, thank you for bringing money to help children be able to have clean water for drinking and cleaning. If you brought an offering, come to the worship table, place your offering in the basket, and say: Thank you, God, that I can give this gift. PRAY: Thank you, God, for giving us all we need. Help us to share what we have with others who need more. Amen. Collect the offering and arrange to have it sent to El Porvenir, P.O. Box 12547, Denver, CO 80212. SESSION 10 November 4, 2012 Have the Frog SAY: Today s Bible story was really exciting because it was about spies. Did you know that I am a spy? (Let the children respond.) It s true! Every time I see something or someone that God loves, I say: ribbit. Can you say ribbit? (Let the children say: ribbit.) Let s play a game called I Spy. Every time I see something that you think God loves, you say: ribbit! Ribbit! Are you ready? Let s begin: I see two children helping each other? (Ribbit! Ribbit!) I see a little girl listening with her two ears? (Ribbit! Ribbit!) I see two boys fighting? (Children should be quiet.) I see (the name of a child in the room?) (Ribbit! Ribbit!) I see (the name of another child in the room?) (Ribbit! Ribbit!) Continue calling out each child s name until every child has been named. Have the Frog SAY: I guess God loves every one of us. Spies find out important information, and today we found out the important information that God loves us. See you next week, and remember: God loves you! Ribbit! Ribbit! SESSION 11 November 11, 2012 Have the Frog SAY: I hop everywhere I go. I would have hopped across the Jordan River with the Israelites if I had been there. Those Israelite people sure had a lot of adventures in the forty years they wandered in the wilderness, didn t they? Let s remember some of the things that happened to them. If what I say happened, hop up and down. If what I say didn t happen, just sit still. The Israelites were slaves in Egypt. (hop) The Red Sea parted for the Israelites to get across. (hop) The Israelites flew to the moon. (stay still) God gave Moses the Ten Commandments for the people to follow and live by. (hop) God loved the Israelite people, and God loves you. (hop) Have the Frog SAY: You have learned a lot. You are a wonderful hoppy group of children. I ll see you next week!

SESSION 12 November 18, 2012 Have the Frog SAY: I m so excited that the people are finally here in the Promised Land! I hear this is the land of milk and honey, but I don t see any. But of course, my favorite food is flies. I just stick my tongue out, and flies get stuck to it, and I eat them! I consider flies a blessing because they are my favorite food. I am thankful for flies. Since this is the Sunday before Thanksgiving, let s spend a few minutes saying what we are thankful for. (Let the children tell what they are thankful for.) Have the Frog SAY: I think I m the most thankful for you girls and boys. Every Sunday when I hop in here, I just feel hoppy to be with you. Let s pray together: PRAY: Dear God, thank you for taking care of us, and giving us all the many blessings you have given us. Amen. SESSION 13 November 25, 2012 Have the Frog SAY: In today s Bible story, Joshua tells the people that they have to choose whom they will serve. They have to choose between the God who had led them and helped them in so many ways to get to the Promised Land, or a god that some other people worshiped. That doesn t seem like a hard choice, does it? Have the Frog ASK: If you had to choose between a God who loved you and a statue of a cow, which god would you choose? (the children say: God) Have the Frog SAY: Joshua, his family, and the Israelites chose to follow God; and I do, too. If you choose to follow God, stand up and yell out: I CHOOSE GOD!
