Jesus as the King who teaches THE WORSHIP Supplies: Praise music, optional: musical instruments Teacher Tip: To help children identify time set aside for worship, designate a special corner or area for singing, collecting offering, and watching the worship illustration. The lost coin THE WORD Supplies: Teacher s Bible with bookmark at Luke 15:8; picture of the Bible story or coins; soft, toy sheep or other special object Teacher s Note: An object that is special to you could be substituted for the toy lamb. Before class, hide the toy lamb in the area where you read the Bible story. Before we begin our Bible Time, let s say our Classroom Promise with the motions. With my eyes on my teacher; My mouth quiet as can be, I will listen to hear, How God loves you and me. Point to eyes. Place index finger over mouth as quiet sign. Cup hand around ear. Hug self, point to others, and then self. Let s reach deep in our pockets and pull out our listening ears. Reach in your pocket and cup your hands behind your ears as if listening. I am so glad you came today! I need your help. I lost my favorite stuffed animal, the little lamb, and I have looked everywhere. Can you help me find it? Have the children help you find the lamb. I am so happy! Thank you for helping find the lamb. It is very special to me because he helps us with our Bible lessons. It is one of my treasures. That reminds me of a story Jesus told of a woman who lost a coin she treasured. Let s find out what happened. Handle the Bible as a special treasure, leaving it open to Luke 15:8. WATCH THE WORD: LUKE 15:8-10 Read the story below or retell the passage in your own words. To illustrate the story, show a picture of the Bible story or coins from a children s Bible, the coloring page, or other source. Suppose there was a woman with ten silver coins. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. If she loses one, there will only be nine. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine! The woman lights a lamp and sweeps her house. She looks up high. She looks down low. Until finally, the coin she finds. Celebrate with me! she says to her neighbors and friends. The Bible tells us that when we do wrong things, We are like the lost coin. But when we follow Jesus, We are close to Him and all of heaven is happy. What was the woman looking for? (Her lost coin.) What did she say when she found the coin? ( Celebrate with me! ) The woman was happy when she found her coin. Who is happy when we follow Jesus and are close to Him? (All of heaven.) Page 6 of 11
