We would like to extend to you a warm welcome to The St. Clare Pastoral Center, located in Mount Vernon, Washington. We make every effort to offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere committed to inclusiveness, peace and justice, and the sanctity of all creation. We are part of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion (ECC), the largest independent catholic jurisdiction in the United States, and a member of the National Council of Churches. Our denomination traces its history through the European Old Catholic Churches who came together in opposition to the declaration of papal infallibility established by the First Vatican Council (1869-70). We offer valid sacraments that are open to all those seeking a faith community whose beliefs are grounded in the traditions of the early Christian church, while maintaining the basic integrity of the Catholic liturgy. The St. Clare Pastoral Center celebrates the Novus Ordo Mass, known as the Mass of Paul VI that was instituted in 1969. This Mass reflects the liturgical changes made after the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965). Because of our concerns over its lack of inclusivity, the Pastoral Center has chosen not to adopt The Third Edition of the Roman Missal, introduced by the Roman Catholic Church on November 27, 2011. Our Pastoral Center is here for you, especially if you are seeking a spiritual home committed to the belief that God's love is unconditional and extends to all of us as God's sons and daughters. It would be a great blessing to have you join us as we grow our community together. Peace and Blessings, Rev. Liz Miller Rev. Jack R. Miller Pastors
HOSANNA! Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heavens! We use this shout during the Eucharistic prayer. We greet the coming of our Savior into the new Jerusalem, and we join his once-and-for-all Passover. This holy week we will ponder and worship the great works of the Lord on our behalf: his pass-over through death to new life and our nourishment in the Eucharist. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus! Meditation [Seated] Alleluia, Word of God (Farrell) Opening Hymn [Verses 1, 2 and 3 - Standing] Sign of the Cross / Blessing of the Palms Opening Prayer
This day is named after the Gospel readings that we will hear. The account of the entry into Jerusalem and the Palms the people waved is put against the account of the passion of Christ, his death for us told in excruciating detail. What are we to make of this contrast? How are we to apply this to our own lives? The reading from Isaiah with the responsorial psalm and the famous Philippians hymn that is our second reading interpret these Gospels for us. God sees us as all the actors in the passion. We are the ones who wave the palms, the ones who drive the nails and the spear into the body of Christ, we are Mary and Peter and the apostles; but above all we are to be Christ for others, we are to lay down our life for the love of neighbor. And because of this call to accept the life of Christ with all its joy and pain, the glory and the suffering, we can expect to share in the lifting up of the Philippians hymn, sharing in the Lordship of Christ to the glory of the Father forever. Rev. Jack R. Miller Something Borrowed You are invited to share a short reflection if you desire.
Profession of Faith [Standing] We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, by the power of the Holy Spirit, he was born of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake, he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day, he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen! General Intercessions Response: Lord, hear our prayer. Sign of Peace Presider: The Peace of the Lord be with you! All: And also with you!
