November 15, 2016 Dear Parish Youth Ministry Leaders, We are pleased to share details for the upcoming 2017 Shine Rally and give you the tools to invite young people to this encounter event. Nationally-acclaimed speaker Kelly Colangelo will keynote the day while The Thirsting returns to lead us in music. Shine includes snack, dinner and Mass. WHEN: Saturday, March 25, 2-8:30 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. WHO: 6-8th Graders WHERE: West Catholic High School, 1801 Bristol Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504 COST: $25 pre-registered, $35 at the door Enclosed are two event fyers. Registration is completed for each parish attending by a designated Group Leader, usually the parish Youth Minister, via online at: www.shineyouthrally.com/register.we have included a paper copy of Parish Registration in this packet, but prefer online forms. Youth will check-in with the Group Leader at the event. Permission is the obligation of each parish, so follow your parish policy regarding feld trips we will not be collecting them. Our deadline is 10 days prior for registration. For the protection of our young people, all adult chaperones are required to attend a Virtus training session and complete a criminal background check with their parish. Each Group Leader is required to recruit at least one chaperone per 10 youth, so please let us know if you cannot meet this requirement. YOUNG APOSTLES TEAM: Young Apostles make a difference! We ask each Youth Ministry Leader to recruit Young Apostles. To help recruit, we have included a letter you can send to leadership-oriented high school teens from your parish (grades 11-12 only with some grade 10 accepted). Dear Congratulations! You have been nominated to be a member of the 2016 Young Apostles Team for this year s Shine Rally. The middle school Shine Rally will be held at West Catholic HS on Saturday, March 25, 1:30-8:30 p.m. Please know that we value all of the amazing gifts and talents you offer to this event. Becoming a Young Apostle means you step into a world larger than yourself you will have to work with other high school teens on the team, pump up the middle schoolers the day of the event, organize and set up props and sets for the stage, and have a chance to put on skits. In all of this, your role is to be a SERVANT LEADER, serving the sixth, seventh and eighth grade participants during the rally. Please consider, after prayerful discernment, flling out an application. Consider whether this commitment is something you can fulfll. The application is online at www.shineyouthrally.com (go to the Young Apostles tab on the menu bar). All applicants must be able to commit to the following: FRIDAY EVENING RETREAT AND TRAINING: Kelly Colangelo and the Shine Team will prepare you spiritually the evening before Shine Rally, lead you through exercises to get to know your fellow team members and practice games, skits and other roles for the day. OVERNIGHT: On Friday evening we will stay at St Anthony Parish in Grand Rapids, located near West CatholicHigh School (where the Shine Rally is held). EVENT: You will be a catalyst with other team members in creating a rally-like energy and vibe for the day's events. This will keep you busy and alert for the entire day, so you'll need lots of energy. We will setup for the rally in the morning and prepare for the youth to arrive. In addition, plan on being there until at least 9:30 p.m. in order to make sure that the clean-up of the event goes smoothly. Please know this letter was sent to you after careful consideration and discernment of high school students from the parish who exemplify the skills to be a Christian leader as a Young Apostle.
