St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Monthly Parish Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes Wednesday, June 14 th, 2017 Parish Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a community of disciples, united through our love of Jesus Christ and our shared Catholic Faith. We joyfully respond to our personal conversion and the call of the Holy Spirit by reflecting the love of the Father through evangelization and service. I. Opening 7:05 PM 1. Call to Order: Valentine Christopher called to order the regular meeting of the Monthly Parish Pastoral Council Meeting at 7:07 pm on Wednesday, June 14 th, 2017 in the San Damiano Room of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. 2. Opening Prayer: Father Rudy opened the Parish Council Meeting with Prayer. 3. Roll Call: Valentine Christopher performed roll call; Cathy Gonzalez and Father Paul were excused; all other council members were present. Quorum was complete. 4. Approval of Minutes: Approval for last month s minutes: Request was made by Valentine to Parish Council to approve the May 2017 minutes. Motion to approve, Greg Deiter, second in motion, Mariano Carro and everybody in the Parish Council approved.

i. Adoptive Parents Ministry: Iris Hughes ii. May 26th was our meeting and we had as a guest: Jasmin Davidson - Parents advocate and she spoke about "grants" for adoptions. We have a new couple that are looking for adoption agency and finally they decided to go for infant adoption thru Catholic Dallas charities and that is why we have this meeting with Jasmin so she can explain to them how to get grants for the adoption. iii. The next meeting will be held June 23rd and Asha is our guest iv. AIDS Outreach Ministry: Evelyn Grimes v. AIDS Supper Club held on June 4, 2017 vi. Always Our Children: Cathy Gonzalez Meeting is scheduled for June 20, 2017 at Saint Francis in Frisco vii. Angel Tree: Laura Kate Bishop No report at this time viii. Blood Drive: Robin Wren No Blood Drive held this month ix. Brown Bag Sunday: No Report need to follow up with Nellie Hill x. Catholic Addiction Ministry: Vincent Webb No report at this time xi. Society of Saint Vincent de Paul: Alice Lackey Two fund raisers scheduled this month June 12 Spring Creek BBQ 20% of gross pofits will be donated xxii. SVDP Bingo on Saturday, June 17, 2017 running low on funds so hoping these fund raisers will be very successful xxiii. Thanksgiving Baskets: Pat Valentino Has developed a project plan for the year will be attending this meeting and joining the Parish Council next month xxiv. Rays of Sunshine: Elizabeth and Charlie Donner/Sofia Hiten No report at this time 2. Liturgy Liaison Jesse Green reported. a. Liturgy ministry did not meet, so no updates are provided. 3. Faith Formation Liaison Dannie Love reported. a) HS: We have 30 kids going to Steubenville Conference (June 23rd-25th) Mission Trip filled up in 30 minutes (record timing) Wait-list remains, but all spots are taken Still need CORE Team members for RISE night b) MS: We are currently taking registration for Youth Outreach Experience- July 24-27 (have 20 signed up so far). Can take up to 40 teen participants [Type text] Page 3

Our IGNITE Base Camp event got cancelled due to low registration (was scheduled for June 26-30) Still in need of IGNITE MS small group leaders for the year c) K-5: Active Registration closes June 16th @ noon Regular Registration opens June 26th 9am till July 28th @ noon or until full (which ever comes first) We are still in need of lots of volunteers VBS June 19th-23rd 9:30-12:30pm 4. Spanish Faith Formation : Liaison Juan Barrera Reported, a. RCIA in Spanish will have their own dinner meal for every meeting. b. They are thinking on requesting help from the ministries, but the idea, still in process. 5. Stewardship Liaison Greg Dieter Reported, a. Our meeting was 100% dedicated to discussing the May 20 th Welcome Event and the remaining actions to have a successful event. b. The members reviewed the final version of the Welcome Event Presentation and went through the Logistics of who has which portion of the talk. c. A talk about the History of the Church and the dedication of the new Sanctuary. d. We then briefly discussed the June 10 th Church Tour. We need to have as many SC Members there to help Father facilitate the tour. Mark, Larry, Charlie, Robin and Greg confirmed they can be there which should be plenty, but more is better so we can answer questions, etc. at the end At the last session, we also got Father Larry s vision for the Church tour which includes: e. Maximize the attendance- pre-event communications will be key. We need to make sure we send E-Vites to ALL parish members as well as Bulletin reminders f. We will plan for the event to start at 6:15PM following the 5PM Saturday night service (June 10 th ) g. The Stewardship Committee will accompany Father in the tour positioned at the Stained Glass windows to help point out certain features the goal will be to talk to the entire St. Francis timeline h. Father would like a small handout pictures of the Basilica Structure and a list of our Stained Glass windows (in the order he will present them chronological) Mark, can you work with David to get a start on this one? I will help when I get back from the graduation events. i. Our next meeting is planned for June 20, 2017-6. Finance Liaison Asha Geller Representing reported a. FC is auditing for end of 2017 fiscal year/ 2018 new fiscal year [Type text] Page 4

b. Budget looks good... c. Ministry finances will be going through approval for new fiscal year. 7. Community Life Liaison Noel Johnston reported. a. Our ladies auxiliaries helped with RCIA fair b. Contributed money for scholarship c. Women of Saint Francis also had a ministry Fair and helped for the Saint and Sultan Movie. They also did the reception for the Welcome event. d. They will get a new leader in fall. They have a regular succession program where the vice chair vice president, is train, so at the end of each term they have the proper training. e. Women of Saint Francis are currently selling Rosares in the Reception Area. f. Knight of Columbus attended to the ministry fair g. Scholarship was $1000 dollars and 9 were given. h. Knight of Columbus is also getting new leadership. 8. Hispanic Liaison Mariano Carro reported a. University of Dallas conference from Jun 19-21 b. Next anointed of the sick Spanish mass will be Friday July 6 th, 2017 at Saint Clare Chapel 6:30 pm c. Last parish tour done by Father Larry will take place on July 8 th after 5:00 PM mass. 9. Adult and family: Liaison Michelle Ryan reported, a) Inspire! i. New Name (formerly Lamplight Catholic Learning) ii. New Leaders iii. Rejoice! Wednesday, June 14 at 7:30 iv. David Utsler talk on Forgiveness b) VBS i. Next week (June 19-23) ii. 450 students (largest group ever) c) Bible Study New studies now enrolling i. MOMS Year-End party in Ma d) At the beginning of the year, Salve Regina ministry provided a meal for the RCIA candidates. e) In March, the elementary students were studying The Beatitudes in class. They made blessing bags, which Alma gave to residents at a local nursing home supported by St. Francis. f) In April, our activities focused on the passion of Christ. Our group had a private tour of the Holocaust museum, which was led by a survivor of one of the camps. g) We had a donut Rosary led by the elementary students and I am proud to report that none of them needed to use any notes. They did all five decades, the prayers and mysteries from memory! h) In May, we had our first commencement attended by over 150 people, largely from our community and the community of St. Gabriel's. We had two graduates, Ashley [Type text] Page 5

Chilek and Clarissa Aguirre. I have attached the insert from their commencement program detailing their accomplishments as well as their future plans. The Salve Regina band played and the commencement speaker gave a wonderful address that blessed not only the graduates but all in attendance. i) Also in May, we had an end of the year program and science fair (outside judging from a local scientist). First place went to "A Rocky Road to Candyland: Which type of sweetener makes the best rock candy?" by James Chilek of St. Francis and Damiana Aguirre of St. Gabriel's. Second place went to "All Natural Playdough" by Miriam Aguirre of St. Gabriel's. And third place went to "Are Your Hands Really Clean?" by Emma Minor of Elizabeth Ann Seton. j) During the program, all of our elementary students were awarded for knowing 100% of the questions asked on their end of year religion test. k) A big thank you to you, Melissa and the council for supporting us. Vocations are skyrocketing in the homeschooling community thanks to the support of parishes like ours. V. Mexican Dinner: Melissa Manjeot Reported Sofia Hiden will have a beauty salon.??? Bounce house for our kids. Car show. Cultural fashion show Father Rudy shared ideas from Cathedral- Latin fest. Civil leaders- support for the cathedral. Food stands. Different groups of the parish provide the food. Entertainment from all of our parishioners VI. New Members: 1. We welcomed our new Parish Council members.
