Collaborative of St. Francis of Assisi Parish & St. Joseph Parish, Medford, MA Page 3 From Fr. Paul Dear Friends, Welcome to New Parishioners No matter what your present status in the Catholic Church, No matter what your current family or marital situation, No matter what your current personal history, age, background, race, etc., No matter what your own self-image; you are invited, welcomed, accepted, loved and respected here at The Collaborative of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish and Saint Joseph Parish. If you are new to the parish, please introduce yourself to a member of the Parish Staff after Mass or at your convenience. Sacrament of Matrimony Couples should make arrangements with one of our priests or deacon at least six months before the wedding. Pastoral Care of the Sick and Elderly Please contact the Parish Center Office to make arrangements, if you are going into the hospital, or have a family member who is homebound and would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick. If a family member cannot come to church and would like to receive Communion at home, please notify us. Remembering Our Parishes Please consider remembering St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Joseph Parish or St. Joseph School when drafting your estate plans. For more information, please call Laura Powers at 781-396-0423 Ext 113. Thank you. There is a football game being played tonight. Something called the Super Bowl. You would have to be living in the desert, off the grid, to not have heard about the big game. And, once again, our local team is in it. You might not be interested in it at all. Or, you might be very interested. It should be an exciting game. We can admire the players' dedication to their work, and the sacrifices that they make to win the prize. They might inspire us in our own daily work. St. Paul often compared the Christian life to an athletic contest. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith," he wrote to his friend Timothy. All of us who want to follow the Lord Jesus should not be surprised that it requires daily prayer and daily effort to be faithful to Him and to love one another. Whether or not you are a sports fan, I hope you can enjoy some fellowship and camaraderie on the occasion of the big game. And, may we strive each day for the greatest prize - union with our Lord - with the same dedication as the athletes striving for victory. Collaborative of St. Francis of Assisi Parish & St. Joseph Parish, Medford, MA Page 5 Mass for Prayer and Penance All Masses for Sunday, February 4th will be offered for Prayer and Penance at the request of Cardinal Sean. The Mass is being held in response to a call from Pope Francis for all episcopal conferences across the world to have a Day or Prayer and Penance in recognition of harm done by clergy sexual abuse within the church. It will be an opportunity to seek repentance for the sins of the church, to pray for all those who were abused, and to pray for continued healing for all those impacted by the abuse including those who were abused, families, members of our church, and the community at large. So that you can make appropriate decisions for your children, please keep in mind that the topic of the clergy sexual abuse crisis will be addressed during the Mass. If you know of anyone who has stepped away from the church because of the clergy abuse crisis, please let them know about this Mass in case they would like to attend. If you know of anyone who has been sexually abused by clergy or a member of the church, please let them know that the Office of Pastoral Support and Outreach is there to help.
