Five trustees were appointed to oversee The Jones Fund for the Support of the Poor, and establish a residence for the indigent citizens of the towns.

For the first seventy-four years of the Jones Fund s history, the interest from the bequeathed sum was used to operate and maintain a residential farm facility known as the Oyster Bay and North Hempstead Town Almshouse in Brookville, New York. In 1914, the trustees of the Jones Fund moved the facility to a new and more modern location in Hicksville, New York. The Hicksville site was known as the Jones Institute and was in operation from 1914 to 1980. During the early years of operation, the residents were commonly referred to as inmates and those able to work farmed the properties to help sustain the facilities. In addition to income from Jones Fund investments, funding for the Hicksville location was also derived from Social Security payments from the residents and a supplement provided by the Nassau County Department of Social Services (DSS). In 1974, residents began receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) after it was determined that the Nassau County Department of Social Services could no longer provide the necessary funding. The sale of a portion of the Hicksville property became necessary to close the deficit between operating costs and income. The Jones Institute was closed in 1980, the remainder of the Hicksville property was sold, and the residents were placed elsewhere. In 1982, with the proceeds from the sale of the Hicksville location, the trustees purchased Tarytown Manor in Bayville, New York. After substantial renovation of the building, it was renamed Jones Manor on the Sound and used to accommodate forty-six residents. Jones Manor on the Sound ceased operations in 2015.
