WHAT IS VEDIC MEDITATION? Vedic meditation is an effortless eyes closed technique practiced for 20 minutes twice daily. It s a simple, natural and highly beneficial practice that absolutely anyone can learn. There is no effort, no concentration and no focus. This technique and its teachings draw from the cognitive sciences and the 5,000 year-old body of wisdom derived from India known as the Veda knowledge governing the unity of the laws of nature and human consciousness from which yoga, meditation and Ayurveda are derived. HOW DOES IT WORK? Meditation is a way of accessing the minds fullest potential. When you meditate, you are creating the perfect conditions for your mind to expand, and your body to rest. When the body is resting deeply, you can begin the process of dissolving stresses in your nervous system that create imbalance and dis-ease. With so many different and conflicting ideas about parenting, and what is the right way, it is more important than ever that mothers remain true to their innate feelings around the care of their own children. THE ITINERARY 27 MARCH - 3 APRIL 2016
27th March Arrive in Chennai + Shopping + Temple You ll be picked up by a private car from Chennai airport and taken to Le Royal Meridien Hotel (5 Star) for the night. There will be buffet lunch on arrival then we will meet in the afternoon to explore the south of Chennai. There will be a shopping trip to buy Indian style clothes for the retreat and we will visit an old Lakshmi temple. Cars will take us back to the hotel for dinner, after which we will convene for our first knowledge session!
28th March Drive to Pondicherry + Initiation into Vedic Meditation After a buffet breakfast at Le Royal Meridien we will drive together to our next destination, the French colonised Pondicherry. Here we will check into The Promenade Hotel (4 Star) where we will stay for the next 4 nights. Lunch will be on arrival then there ll be time in the afternoon to relax, swim, walk or get a massage. In the evening you will be initiated into Vedic meditation, a very special experience in the country that is the home of this ancient wisdom tradition. Laura will perform a ceremony of gratitude and then each person will receive their personal mantra and instruction for practice. Over the next few days we will dive deep into the art and science of Vedic meditation and you ll learn how to integrate it effortlessly into daily life. Dinner will be at the hotel followed by a waterfront stroll along the Promenade.
29th March Meditation + Ashram + Pondicherry + Intuition Talk The morning will start with the second Vedic meditation session followed by a buffet breakfast at the hotel. We will then walk into town and explore Pondicherry. We will visit Sri Aurobindo and The Mother s ashram - two great masters dedicated to expanding consciousness and uplifting humanity. Lunch will be in town with free time in the afternoon to explore or relax. Group meditation in the evening followed by dinner at the hotel and walk along the Promenade. Then we will come together for our night time knowledge session with Rachael, with the theme tapping into your intuition.
30th March Meditation + Auroville + Matrimandir + Intuition Talk We will start the morning with the third Vedic meditation session followed by a buffet breakfast at the hotel. We will then take a trip to Auroville, a universal town created by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity, and it s here that men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. We will visit the Matrimandir - a huge golden sphere temple that is the central cohesive force of Auroville. We will meditate in the top of the temple and have time to explore the area. Lunch will be in Auroville where the food is grown fresh and handmade with a French fusion. Group meditation in the evening followed by dinner at the hotel. Then we will convene for our second night time knowledge session further delving into cultivating intuition and expanding consciousness.
31st March Meditation + Exploring the French Quarter + Open Q&A talk We will start the morning with the final Vedic meditation session followed by a buffet breakfast at the hotel. We will then take tuk tuks into the French Quarter of Pondicherry where you will have time to explore and shop. Lunch will be at a beautiful french inspired cafe. The afternoon is free time to relax, go for a walk, indulge in spa treatments or simply enjoy the company of the group! Group meditation in evening followed by dinner at a local restaurant. We will then meet for our third night time knowledge session where it will be an open forum Q&A!
1st April Bus to Amma s ashram in Vellore + Abishekam Puja + Golden Temple Morning group meditation followed by buffet breakfast at the hotel. We will then take a private bus to Sri Narayani Peedam ashram where will be staying for our last two nights. Narayani Peedam is the home of Sri Sakthi Amma, an incarnation of Mother Divine. This is also the site of the largest Golden Temple in the world, Sri Puram, that is referred to as the 8th Wonder of the World. After a delicious lunch at the ashram, we will participate in Sri Sakthi Amma s daily Abishekam puja. Abishekam is a ritual that involves the pouring of libations such as honey, milk and ghee on a statue of Narayani, the Divine Mother, amidst the chanting of Vedic mantras. This is a visually rich and incredibly beautiful expression of consciousness which is a blessing to be a part of. We will then walk the Star Path around the Golden Temple in the evening followed by dinner at the ashram.
2nd April Ashram Projects + Gemstone Reading + Free Time + Abishekam Puja Morning group meditation followed by breakfast at the ashram. We will then visit the local projects that Amma initiated including a recycling plant, greenhouse and gho shala (dairy house). You will then have the opportunity to have a private gemstone reading with our dear friend Sri Raman. There will be free time to explore Peedam and experience the local culture, walk the Golden Temple Star Path or volunteer serving food and water (known as Seva ). After a delicious lunch at the ashram, we will again participate in Sri Sakthi Amma s daily Abishekam puja. That evening we will come together for our final night with dinner and a knowledge session at the ashram.
3rd April Trip to Mahananda Siddha s Shiva temple + transfers to Chennai airport This morning we will visit Sri La Sri Mahananda Siddha at his temple. Siddha s Story... after 30 years of devoted service upkeeping temples and feeding the poor, Lord Shiva appeared before Mahananda when he was 72 and said, You are very fortunate in this life; you are a Siddha with a boon to live for 500 years; go to Mahadeva Mount and live in a cave there, worship Me and protect the devotees you should not seek alms from anyone; all the wealth will be heaped here; you should protect all the living creatures in this mountain from disease and suffering; from now on you should not eat food to satisfy your hunger or drink water to quench your thirst. When you sleep or meditate it will be in fire. After giving this advice Lord Siva disappeared. It is a huge blessing to have an audience with Mahananda and you will see first hand the incredible temple he has built on top of Mount Mahadeva in service of Lord Shiva. We will come back to Peedam for lunch and our final group session. After a big farewell there will be private cars to take you back to Chennai airport. If you wish to stay on, you are more than welcome to continue staying at Amma s.
