Learning to Love your Meditation with Mary Gail Sovik Saturday, July 19, 9:30-11:30am In the early stages of meditation practice, japa (mantra repetition) may feel like a chore, a requirement for moving ahead. As time moves on, however, a relationship begins to develop between heart and mantra. Daily repetition strengthens this love, and the mantra becomes a devotional resource and a refuge from the stresses of life s journey. No longer a job that needs to be done, we begin to cherish our sitting time and desire to return and rest in this oasis of internal peace and stillness. Fee: $20 (ID: S62) Yoga for Back Care with Julia Tuesdays, July 22-Aug 12 (4 wks), 9:30-11am Learn safe and gentle techniques that help ease back pain and strengthen core muscles that support the spine. Each week we will progressively increase our working knowledge of the pelvis and spine, broadening our understanding of how certain movements enhance stability and freedom in the body. Breath work and relaxation are weaved into the yoga poses to promote physical and energetic responses. This class is open to anyone having clearance from a doctor to exercise, most poses will be done on the floor, and adaptions will be offered for everyone. Fee: $40 (ID: YB) Tension Relief for Neck & Shoulders with Stephanie Tuesdays, July 22&29 (2 wks), 5:30-7pm Tension in the neck and shoulders can cause a variety of problems including headaches, limited range of movement, and poor posture. Yoga stretches relieve stiffness, create balanced strength, and maintain suppleness. By easing physical tension, you will feel better mentally as well. The series of movements taught in this session can be practiced daily to sustain tension relief. Fee: $25 (ID: YS) Laughter Yoga with Sapna Friday, July 25, 5:30-6:30pm Laugh yourself healthy! Containment and Core Strength for Balances and Inversions with Sarah Tuesday, Aug 12, 5:30-7:30pm According to yogic understanding of subtle energy or prana, the abdominal region of the body is considered the storehouse or container of indomitable core strength. In this two-hour workshop, learn how to Power Up this core strength with the use of isolated muscle contractions, breath awareness, and application of the bandhas. We will then apply that understanding to asanas that require integrated core strength, specifically ardha chandrasana (half moon) and sirsasana (headstand).
