Understanding the relationship between God the Father and Christ His only begotten son? Copyright 1997 by Cordell Vail Kernersville, NC MakingSuccessWork@yahoo.com Back To Cordell s Epistle Main Page Verses are taken from the King James Version of the Bible [My comments are in italics and square brackets] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Was Christ Begotten By The Holy Ghost? [This scripture has caused some to believe that the father of Christ was the Holy Ghost:] Matthew 1:18-20 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. [However the account in Luke makes it clear what actually took place:] Luke 1:34-35 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. [It would appear that the Holy Ghost had to first come upon Mary to prepare her, and then the power of God the Father overshadowed her and she then conceived and had a child who was literally the Son of God the Father.]

Why do we say that Jesus was The Only Begotten Son of the Father if he was conceived by the Holy Ghost? John 1:14 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. [If Christ was begotten by the Holy Ghost, then why doesn t this say that Christ was the Only Begotten of the Holy Ghost.] John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 1 John 4:9 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. [Again, if Christ was begotten by the Holy Ghost, then why doesn t this say that Christ was the Only Begotten of the Holy Ghost. I find no place in the Bible that refers to Christ as the son of the Holy Ghost.] Did Jesus become a God and work out his own salvation? Hebrews 5:8-9 8 Though he were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Hebrews 2:10 10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Luke 2:52 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. Hebrews 1:4 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they Does Christ have an immortal physical body of flesh and bones? Luke 24:39 39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. [This is the resurrected Christ speaking. Where in the Bible does it say that he died again a second time and left that immortal body of flesh and bones?] John 20:27 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 1 John 1 1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; [How could they handle, touch or thrust their fingers into the side of a sprit?] Luke 24:33-36 33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, 34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. 35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. 36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

Luke 24:41-43 41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? 42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 43 And he took it, and did eat before them. [How could a spirit eat fish and honeycomb?] Does God the Father have an immortal physical body of flesh and bones too? Colossians 1:15 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: Hebrews 1:1-3 1 God [that would be God the Father], who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken [that would be God the Father] unto us by his Son [that would be Christ], whom He [that would be God the Father] hath appointed heir [that would be Christ] of all things, by whom also he [that would be God the Father] made the worlds[that would be Christ]; 3 Who [that would be Christ] being the brightness of His [that would be God the Father] glory, and the express image of his [that would be God the Father] person, and upholding all things by the word of his [that would be Christ] power, when he [that would be Christ] had by himself purged our sins, sat down [that would be Christ] on the right hand of the Majesty on high[that would be God the Father]: [So if Christ showed himself to the apostles with an immortal body of flesh and bones, and He is in the EXPRESS IMAGE of God the Father, what does that say about the immortal body of God the Father?] Acts 7:55 55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, [Stephen looked up and saw two persons not one. He saw God the Father and Christ standing side by side. If they are the same person, why would he have not just seen one personage?]

Has any man ever seen God? [Some feel that the Bible says that no man can see God. These are some of the scriptures used to base that belief on:] Exodus 33:18-23 18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. 20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. 21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: 23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen. [Yet in Numbers 14:14 it says He is seen Face to Face. Could this be a translation error in the Bible that should have actually been translated to say shall not be seen AT THIS TIME?] John 1:18 18 No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. [The Bible clearly states that the apostles saw Him after He was resurrected.] 1 Timothy 6:16 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. [Moses saw Him. Stephen saw God the Father and Christ standing on His right hand.] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Matthew 5:8 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Exodus 3:2-4 2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. Numbers 14:14 14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night. [Face to to face would imply that God is being seen by the person seeing him face to face.] Numbers 12:6-8 6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. [How could God make himself know in a vision if the Prophet did not see him?] Acts 1:3 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: [The Bible clearly states that the apostles, several women and at least 500 people saw the Resurrected Christ after He was crucified. Is that not Seeing God?] Revelation 4:1-3 1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. 2 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. 3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

[John the Revelator saw God.] Daniel 7:9-10 9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. 10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. [Daniel saw God.] Isaiah 6:1-5 1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. 2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. 3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. 4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. [Isaiah saw God.] Exodus 24:9-11 9 Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: 10 And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. 11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink. [Moses, Aaron and Arron s sons, 70 elders of Israel and the nobles of the children of Israel saw God.]

Was Christ the Jehovah of the Old Testament? God revealed himself to Moses on Mt. Horeb in the burning bush (Ex. 3:2-15). Exodus 3:113-14 13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. John 8:58 57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. [Christ tell us that one of His names is I AM.] Isaiah 43:11 11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. [This is the God of the Old Testament talking to Isaiah.] [And the Bible starts out by saying the God of the Old Testament created the world:] Genesis 1:1 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. [Yet there are numerous references in the Bible showing that Christ created all things:] Isaiah 44:24 24 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

John 1:3 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Colossians 1:16 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: Ephesians 3:9 9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MakingSuccessWork@yahoo.com Back To Cordell s Epistle Main Page
