There is one Body and one Spirit;. Amen. One Lord, one Faith, one Baptism; One God and Father of all. Collect of the Day The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, known, worshiped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The Word of God The people are seated for the reading of the Lessons. Lesson 1 Samuel 3:1-20 Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD under Eli. The word of the LORD was rare in those days; visions were not widespread. At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his room; the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was. Then the LORD he went and lay down. The LORD the LORD, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. The Lord called Samuel again, a third 1

LORD peak, LORD LORD came LORD said to Samuel, "See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make both ears of anyone who hears of it tingle. On that day I will fulfill against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end. For I have told him that I am about to punish his house forever, for the iniquity that he knew, because his sons were blaspheming God, and he did not restrain them. Therefore I swear to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be expiated by sacrifice or offering forever." Samuel lay there until morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli. But Eli called Samuel and said, "Samuel, my son." He said, "Here I am." Eli said, "What was it that he told you? Do not hide it from me. May God do so to you and more also, if you hide anything from me of all that he told you." So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. Then he said, "It is the LORD; let him do what seems good to him." As Samuel grew up, the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. And all Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was a trustworthy prophet of the LORD. The Lector concludes with The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. The people remain seated and the Choir sings the Psalm. Psalm 139:1-5, 12-17 Domine, probasti 1 LORD, you have searched me out and known me; * you know my sitting down and my rising up; you discern my thoughts from afar. 2 You trace my journeys and my resting-places * and are acquainted with all my ways. 3 Indeed, there is not a word on my lips, * but you, O LORD, know it altogether. 4 You press upon me behind and before * and lay your hand upon me. 5 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; * it is so high that I cannot attain to it. 12 For you yourself created my inmost parts; * 13 I will thank you because I am marvelously made; * your works are wonderful, and I know it well. 14 My body was not hidden from you, * while I was being made in secret and woven in the depths of the earth. 15 Your eyes beheld my limbs, yet unfinished in the womb; all of them were written in your book; * they were fashioned day by day, when as yet there was none of them. 16 How deep I find your thoughts, O God! * how great is the sum of them! 17 If I were to count them, they would be more in number than the sand; * to count them all, my life span would need to be like yours. Highmore Skeats 2

Lesson 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 destroy both one and the other. The body is meant not for fornication but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that whoever is united to a prostitute becomes one body with her? Shun fornication! Every sin that a person commits is outside the body; but the fornicator sins against the body itself. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body. The Lector concludes with The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. The people stand, as they are able, and remain standing for the Gospel reading. Hymn 443 Salem Harbor Following the conclusion of Sunday School, the children Choir, leaving directly from their Sunday School rooms by processing to the Church Building. These children will return to the service at the Peace. Holy Gospel John 1:43-51 The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Glory to you, Lord Christ. Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and sa When Jesus saw Nathanael coming God! You are the King the angels of God The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. As the gospel procession returns to the altar, the people are seated. Sermon The Right Reverend Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, Bishop 3

The Rite of Confirmation The people remain seated for the beginning of the rite of Confirmation. Presentation and Examination of the Candidates The Bishop says The Candidates will now be presented. Celebrant I present Eric Vanatti and Sean Lamar for Confirmation The Bishop asks the Candidates Do you reaffirm your renunciation of evil? Candidates I do Bishop Do you renew your commitment to Jesus Christ? Candidates After all have been presented, the Bishop addresses the congregation, saying Will you who witness these vows do all in your power to support these persons in their life in Christ? People We will Bishop Let us join with those who are committing themselves to Christ and renew our own baptismal covenant. The people stand, as they are able. The Baptismal Covenant Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord? Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ? Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself? Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being? 4

Prayers for the Candidates Bishop Let us now pray for Eric Vanatti and Sean Lamar who have renewed their commitment to Christ. The Intercessor and People pray responsively. Deliver them, O Lord, from the way of sin and death. Open their hearts to your grace and truth. Fill them with your holy and life-giving Spirit. Keep them in the faith and communion of your holy Church. Teach them to love others in the power of the Spirit. Send them into the world in witness to your love. Bring them to the fullness of your peace and glory. A period of silence follows. Bishop Almighty God, we thank you that by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ you have overcome sin and brought us to yourself, and that by the sealing of your Hoy Spirit you have bound us to your service. Renew in these your servants the covenant you made with them at their Baptism. Send them forth in the power of that Spirit to perform the service you set before them; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The people are seated. Confirmation The Bishop lays hands upon each one and says Strengthen, O Lord, your servant N. with your Holy Spirit; empower him for your service; and sustain him all the days of his life. Amen. Bishop Almighty and everliving God, let your fatherly hand ever be over these your servants; let your Holy Spirit ever be with them; and so lead them in the knowledge and obedience of your Word, that they may serve you in this life, and dwell with you in the life to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The people stand, as they are able. The Peace The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.. Announcements are made, followed by an offertory sentence. T offering goes to the B Discretionary Fund for support of emergencies and non-budgeted ministries that arise during the year. If you would like to make an offering electronically, you will find a kiosk in the narthex or you may use your phone with the QR code in Connections. 5

Celebrant It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; because in the mystery of the Word made flesh, you have caused a new light to shine in our hearts, to give the knowledge of your glory in the face of your son Jesus Christ our Lord. The Celebrant continues We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you. this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness Therefore, according to his command, O Father, Celebrant and People We remember his death; We proclaim his resurrection; We await his coming in glory. The Celebrant continues And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with blessed Mary, the Godbearer, blessed Paul our patron, and all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. 7

By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN. And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Breaking of the Bread The Celebrant breaks the bread. A period of silence is kept. Fraction Anthem Distribution of Communion Gluten free bread is available upon request. During Communion, the Sacrament of Healing will take place in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd.
