Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6 Once again, Paul reassures the Thessalonians, who are anxious about the coming of Christ, that they need not fear being unprepared because they are children of light. Gospel: Matthew 25:14-30 Jesus narrates the parable of the talents in the story, the silver pieces given to the three men. Two of the men invest their coins and double their worth, but the third buries his coins in the ground and earns no return. The message of Jesus is that we must use to the fullest the talents we have received. Saint Michael the Archangel pray for them! PARISH THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION MONDAY, NOVEMBER 20th 7:30 PM Our Parish Thanksgiving Service will be held in the church beginning at 7:30 PM. It will be co-sponsored by our two biggest parish groups, the Religious Education Program families and our CYO basketball families. The event is geared to all of our parishioners, both individuals and families, young and not so young alike. In a world where so many have so little while we enjoy so much, many of us will want to set aside some quality time to be together as a faith community in order to give honor, glory and THANKS to God for the many blessings we enjoy every day. We thank God for the gifts Faith, Hope and Love, especially the love we share with God and our family members and friends. We give thanks for the gifts of food and drink, clothing and shelter, quality medical care, top notch education for our children. We give special thanks for living in America, the land of opportunity, where we enjoy religious liberty, freedom of speech and more rights and privileges than people in most parts of the world could ever imagine or will ever know. Our parish family service will begin with many of our school children processing around the church with special homemade posters and drawings depicting what they believe to be the spirit of Thanksgiving. Next, we will enjoy a scripture service with select readings and a brief homily. This will be followed by a procession of gifts to the altar as our adults and children bring forth food or monetary offerings for the less fortunate of our community. When I was hungry, when I was thirsty.whatsoever you did for the least of my loved ones that you did unto me. Following our Thanksgiving celebration, everyone is invited over to the gym to break bread with our parish family and enjoy the bounty of our sharing table laden with homemade and other offerings brought in by those participating in the celebration. We will provide more details in next week s bulletin. Meanwhile, please save the date! CHURCH CHRISTMAS FLOWERS We know it s early but those of you who use the parish envelope system, will be receiving an envelope packet which contains the traditional Christmas Flower envelope This year, we are hoping to, once again, present the parish with another spectacular floral and evergreen display in our church. Your usual generosity will help make this possible. You may place your Christmas Flower Offering Envelope in the contribution basket on ANY SUNDAY prior to Christmas. As in the past, your Christmas Flower Offering Envelope, memorializing the names of family members and friends will be placed on the altar throughout the Christmas Season. Additional Flower Envelopes will be made available in the vestibule of the church as we get closer December. PARISH CHRISTMAS CARDS ON SALE New, custom designed parish Christmas cards will be on sale at all of our masses THIS weekend November 11th and 12th. Cards may also be purchased at the Parish House during the week. They feature a pack of 24. The cost of these custom designed religious Christmas cards is the same as last year, JUST $15 A PACK. Thanks to Ray Stormes and his volunteer crew, parents and kids will start the day with a wonderful pancake and sausage breakfast or cereal, bagels and juices, and hot and cold beverages. The kids and parents will then be treated to a special, child oriented Christmas presentation. The grand finale will be when every child will then get to visit with Santa who will give each of them a gift as the cameras click away. Please be sure to join us for this exciting event. BLESSING OF THE ROCKLAND COUNTY CRESCHE PALISADES CENTER MALL The Rockland County Knights of Columbus will again sponsor the Crèche at the Palisades Center Mall. Msgr. Emmet Nevin, Dean of Rockland and Pastor of St. Aedan s will lead the dedication and caroling on Saturday, November 25TH at 12:00 noon, by the entrance of the former JC Penney. GIVE WITNESS TO CHRIST by joining us in celebrating the Christmas season and show your support for having the Crèche as part of the mall's annual holiday décor. Last year, this was the only religious display in the entire four story mall. TURKEY ALERT FOOD DRIVE HIGHLIGHT We are in dire need of Full Turkeys, Turkey Breasts, Hams, Frozen Lasagna, Ground Beef, Pork Chops, Roasting Chickens along with ALL of the Fixins. We will be collecting these items following all of our Sunday masses (including the 7 PM) this weekend. We will also be accepting these items at the Monday evening, 7:30 PM Parish Thanksgiving Service. ADVENT GIFTS FOR JESUS PARISH GIVING TREE Once again we call upon the young people of the parish (with a little parental assistance) to give of themselves in our Advent Project-St. Aedan s Giving Tree Please take an ornament from the tree in the vestibule, buy the item written on the back and decorate the ornament. Then place the item (unwrapped) under the tree in the church and hang the decorated ornament on the tree. I know it is fun to buy toys for children, but please keep in mind, especially this year, let s give what people really need.
