Permission to Remember November always brings me joy because it a month that gives me Permission to Remember. In my life November 1st was always a significant day because it was my grandmothers birthday. Nannie Delores was her name and I was her name sake because I was her first granddaughter. She taught me early November 1st was no average day, in addition to celebrating her birthday it was also All Saints Day, a day set aside to remember the saints. Remember the Saints As a young Catholic School student, veneration of the Saints became as normal to me as is saying the Lord s Prayer is to a young Disciple of Christ. As time progressed many of the rituals I learned in Catholic school became obsolete, however my love, respect and adoration for the Remembering the Saints associated with Christian History remained. What better way to start November which is typically always partnered with a thematic focus of giving thanks, than to take the first day of the month to pay homage and say thanks to those significant individuals within our Christian history. Remember Who Over the years I ve realized Remembering Who can many times get lost in our interpretation of history. We must never lose site that history not only tells us what but it also tells us who. It s our responsibility as faithful believers to be willing to take a moment to do critical reflect on who has contributed to our lives. We re all standing on the shoulders of many great individuals who ve sacrificed much and no longer live to reap the benefits. Who are these individuals? Who are the saints in your history who ve paved the way in your life? Was it a grandmother, a veteran, a fellow Christian, a friend, or maybe even a stranger? There is no better time than now to take a moment to express some gratitude. Maybe even take a moment to introduce a member of a younger generation to someone they ve never met, but Pastor s Page 2 definitely should know. The Permission to Remember is a repetitive gift November brings to us all. Do it now while you have time. The Clock of Life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, At late or early hour. Now is the only time we own; Love, life, toil with a will; Do not wait until tomorrow, For the Clock May then be still. - Will Roberts, Live, Love, & Toil The Bible States in Ecclesiastes 3:1, There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens Pastor D.
