Page 10 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time FIRST WEEK OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES Thanks to everyone who helped with our first week of classes. It is great to see so many children interested in learning more about our faith. We appreciate the time and effort it takes families to make Religious Education a priority in their lives. 1. Books were given to all children in Grades 1-4 who attended class the first day. Please make sure that your child s name, group number and teachers names are written in the front of their book. Books should be brought to class each week. Children will earn a trip to the Treasure Box after 6 weeks if they bring their book to class each week. 2. Children in Grades 5-8 receive weekly handouts that pertain to the Gospel and current events. Please take time to review the information with your child. You can access the Pflaum Gospel Weekly website for more information. 3. Please take a few minutes on the way home from class to talk to your child about the time they spent here. Direct questions like What was the Gospel story about, how is God call ing you to share the Good News, or what is the saint s name of their classroom might help start the conversation instead of the standard, what did you learn in class today. 4. Grades 1-4: Use the FAMILY TIME page that is sent home to spark other conversations. Check for flyers from the RE Office to keep up-to-date on activities. Information is also included in the bulletin and on our parish website under Faith Formation/Religious Education. We are looking forward to a year full sharing with friends and growing in our faith. Please contact our office if you have any questions about our program. October 9-11 Grades 1-4 October 16-18 Grades 1-8 Emergency Fire Drill Week October 23-25 Grades 1-4 October 30-31 Grades 1 & 2 FAMILY TIME PAGES from BLEST ARE WE~Faith and Word (Grades 1-4) More Catholic Family Prayers, Games and Resources at www.blestarewe.com www.pflaumweeklies.com for Grades 5-8 The FAMILY TIME page is sent home before the lesson is taught. It provides the family an opportunity to focus on the theme of the chapter as it relates to family life and readies the children for their catechetical experience. Here are some suggestions on how to use the ideas from these pages with your family. 1. Stick the page on your refrigerator or bulletin board at home. 2. Pick a time that works best for your family; mealtime, before or after bedtime prayers, before a favorite family TV show or activity. 3. Avoid doing what you know will make someone feel self-conscience and out-of-character. 4. Focus on QUALITY time rather than QUANTITY of time. 5. Listen a lot rather than talking a lot. 6. Pray together often 7. ENJOY YOUR FAMILY TIME it is a precious gift...
