St. Anastasia Catholic Church September 28th, 2014 Twenty-sixth Sunday In Ordinary Time Have in you the same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 2:5 7390 W. Dear Parishioners, Over the past 4 years that I have been with you, I have been very impressed by the strength of your faith and the level of commitment that all of you have for your Church and your Parish. In announcing our new Casting Our Net Into Deeper Waters Program, we as a Parish are embarking on an effort to broaden our parish ministries, and to better organize our efforts. Over the past few years we have had to tighten our financial belt, but I am hoping that you will join with me now in a new level of commitment to help strengthen the resources of our Parish. in doing that we can reach out to meet the needs of all our parishioners in a much more effective way. Jesus calls us to share the light of the Gospel. Thank you for your trust and your commitment to help in Casting Our Net Into Deeper Waters of faith. Blessings to you all. Devotedly yours in Christ, Father Gabe Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family... 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ The first son in today s Gospel said he would do his father s bidding, but did not. The second son balked at first, but then repented and did as he was asked. What service is God calling me to do? Which son am I more like? Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family... This Week Sunday, Sept. 28th Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reflections on Today s Readings FOCUS: God invites us to imitate the humility and obedience of Jesus. Jesus was outspoken when it came to doing the will of the Father. We may think of a humble person as being spineless, but that is not the case. Humility helps us to know our true self so that we are able to open our hearts to the grace of God. This, in turn, can empower us to speak the truth in all things. LITURGY OF THE WORD: The prophet Ezekiel hears the complaints of the Israelites and encourages them to turn away from sin in order to live. Saint Paul reminds us to have the same attitude as Jesus, who was humble and obedient. In today s Gospel, Jesus takes the religious leaders to task over their unwillingness to change their sinful ways. Celebrating Our Faith Next Week ~ Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Masses: Sat: 5:30 p.m. Sun: 7:30 a.m. Sun: 9:00 a.m. Sun: 10:30 a.m. Sun: 12:00 NN. Sun: 7:30 p.m. Celebrants: Fr. Tom Fr. Tom Saturday Confessions 3:30 to 5 p.m. and 7:30 to 8 p.m. The Family Visitation Ministry offers spiritual support to those in need. Please call Sr. Teresita at 310-216-2001, or the Rectory Office at 310-670-2243. To Receive Holy Communion (For those who are sick, hospitalized, or home bound) Please call Gloria Bowen, Eucharistic Minister to the sick at 310-670-5971. WE ENCOURAGE ALL TO READ AND REFLECT ON THE BIBLICAL PASSAGES THAT WILL BE PROCLAIMED AT ALL MASSES NEXT WEEK. First Reading The vineyard of the LORD is the house of Israel (Isaiah 5:1-7). Psalm The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel (Psalm 80). Second Reading God s peace will guard your hearts and minds (Philippians 4:6-9). Gospel The kingdom of God will be given to those who will produce its fruit (Matthew 21:33-43). Living Faith For Kids Good and upright is the Lord; thus He shows sinners the way. He guides the humble to justice, and teaches the humble His way.. ~Psalm 25:8-9 In one of the prayers used in Mass, I admit that I have sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do. We need to know what sin is so that we can face it and take steps to change. Thank God we do not have to do this all on our won. God Himself will show us the way if we admit our sins and accept His guidance. Lord, help me to be humble so I can be guided by your Word in Scripture and in the Church. LEARN TO STOP INAPPROPRIATE ACTIVITY BEFORE IT HAPPENS Teach your child to respect the word Stop! Teach your preschooler that stop means stop, and that your child has the right to stop people from touching his or her body. Obviously, exceptions will have to be made for doctors and parents, but even parents must listen when a child doesn t want to be tickled or hugged anymore. Reinforcing this excellent lesson gives your child the power to recognize -- and to stop -- bad touching by others if it should happen. CATHOLIC CHARITIES of Los Angeles is hosting a fundraising dinner on Saturday, November 8 at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades honoring Humanitarian honoree, Eddie Merrins - the "Little Pro" of Bel Air Country Club, along with our Sr. Peg Dolan Spirit of Giving Award winner Monsignor Royale Vadakin, Pastor Emeritus of St. A s. Fact of Life An excerpt from opinion piece in U.S. News Jan. 2013 by Penny Nance - President & CEO of Concerned Women For America Abortion has been linked with increased chances of depression, doubling chances of breast cancer, ectopic pregnancies, and drug and alcohol abuse. Additionally, women who have an abortion are six times more likely to commit suicide. Legal has certainly not meant safe. We must work.to change the hearts and minds by simply taking care of women. In 2011, a record-high 92 new pro life state laws passed because the social conscience is realizing abortion is the great social injustice of our time. Abortion solves no problem for women; it creates and/or complicates them. Abortion is not pro-woman. Pro life is pro-woman.
