KOINONIA The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship (Koinonia) of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14 NORWIN ALLIANCE CHURCH May 2018 All the more as you see the Day approaching... Hebrews 10:25 The Bible tells us that worship and fellowship grow as Jesus return draws near. The devotional below from Robert Morgan compares a bath to Sunday morning worship. Why Bathing is Not Important 1. I was forced to bathe as a child. 2. I watch people bathing on TV. 3. I only bathe when God speaks to me. 4. I can bathe on the golf course. 5. My children s schedule keeps me from bathing. 6. Bathing every Sunday is legalistic. 7. I can go to heaven without bathing. 8. I drop my children off to bathe. 9. I only bathe with people I like. 10. I don t get anything out of bathing. WOMEN S SPRING LUNCHEON Saturday, May 5, 2018 10:30 am Menu: Salad & Potato Bar with all the fixings (including chicken) and Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. Page 2 Join us Thursday, May 3rd at 7:00 pm as we pray together for America. 2018 NATIONAL PRAYER by Dr. Ronnie Our Dear Heavenly Father, while we come to You in complete humility, we also come to You with boldness in the authoritative name of Your One and Only Son, Jesus Christ, who is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. In Jesus name, fill us now with Your Holy Spirit and lead us as we pray in Jesus name for America. Oh God, we are burdened for our nation today. We turn from the sins that we have committed against your Word and your Name. We turn away from our contentious words and ways toward one another that has led us to division and polarization. We turn away from our disrespect and lack of dignity toward each other, and we turn away from our continual devaluation of all human life from the womb until death in this world. We also turn away from and refuse to participate in skepticism, criticism, and cynicism in our nation. We turn away from anything that divides us, and we run toward the gospel of Jesus Christ that is the only thing that has the power to unite us together. Lord, in this critical hour in our nation, we pray for unity in America. Only You can bring unity, harmony, and oneness in America. As your Word calls us in Ephesians 4:3, Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace, we ask You to empower us to make every effort to live in unity, to call for unity, and to KOINONIA forward unity in America continually. We pray for the churches in America to unify in Jesus Christ and to pray as one unified spiritual family for America. May Your Church pray for America passionately, perpetually, privately, and publicly. We pray for God s power to unify families, workplaces, communities, and cities in America. By Your Spirit, lead us to forgiveness, reconciliation, healing, and unity. We pray for people of all ethnicities and races in America to come together as one, living in peace and unity together. Oh Lord, because each of us is created in Your image, please give us the courage to stand against all racial and ethnic division, denouncing it as evil and sinful, while simultaneously coming together in unity with all persons knowing this is God s will for us. We pray in unity for the security of our nation. We ask You to preserve the United States of America from the forces of evil that are threatening our lives and our future. God, please guard all persons in public and private settings from anyone or anything that desires to harm us or take our lives. Our future is in Your hands. We agree clearly, unite visibly, and pray extraordinarily for the next Great Spiritual Awakening in America. Oh Lord, wake up Your church spiritually and convict Your people to agree clearly, unite visibly, and pray extraordinarily until the next Great Spiritual Awakening occurs in our generation. Oh God, we stand together upon Your words in Psalm 133:1, How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony. Through Jesus name and by the Holy Spirit s power, we pray for all Americans to unify and to live together in unity. In the mighty and majestic name of Jesus Christ who is the Only Savior and the Only Hope in this world, we pray. Amen Written by: Dr. Ronnie Floyd President, National Day of Prayer Task Force Senior Pastor, Cross Church

KOINONIA Page 3 Bible Quizzing News! KEEN-AGERS Senior Group Thursday, May 24, 2018 11:30 am The Norwin Bible quizzers had an outstanding season this past year! The kids studied the books of First and Second Corinthians from September through April. In our regular season we had 7 quizzers represent Norwin Alliance Church on three teams. Our junior team consis ng of Daniel, Brynn and William placed 5th overall for the year in the Pi sburgh area. Brynn finished in 14th place and Daniel finished as the first place junior quizzer. Both qualified to move on the District Finals compe on. Mike competed in the Senior B division, and his team took second place. Emily, David and Hannah were our Senior A team. They took third place in the senior A division. Emily was the top senior A quizzer, and David was the top senior A rookie. Emily also qualified to move on to District Finals. The District Finals compe on was held in North East, PA just outside of Erie on April 20 21. Emily, Daniel and Brynn joined other quizzers from the Pi sburgh area to compete against teams from the Erie and Altoona areas. In all, 9 junior teams and 6 senior teams joined in the compe on. Brynn s team placed first in the junior compe on, and Emily s team placed 2nd in the senior compe on. Daniel was the 5th place junior quizzer. Emily was the 3rd place senior quizzer earning her a seat on one of the two teams that will represent our District, Western PA, at the Interna onal compe on. This compe on will be held at Redeemer University in Hamilton, Ontario in July. These kids have done an outstanding job, not only hiding God s word in their hearts, but also learning how to compete in a Christ like manner. Please con nue to encourage them as they study scripture and learn to apply it to their lives. Joe and Becky Lunch for this month is: Ham Barbecue. Please bring a covered dish and/or dessert to compliment our meal. First time attendees do not have to bring any dishes, just come and join us for a time to Praise the Lord together, share lunch and enjoy socializing with each other. Please remember to bring your own table service. Devotions will be presented by Evelyn Milicki. A.G. Lee will play the bag pipes for us. All seniors 50 years of age and above are cordially invited to our Keen-Agers meeting and luncheon. Please invite a friend or neighbor to our meeting. If you have any questions about Keen-Agers, please call Joe and Pat Beyer (724-863-1441). Page 4 Vignettes by Virginia Are you aware that the world s population is 7.5 BILLION people!? That is really a challenge to understand and imagine. You may wonder which country has the massive count of people? How can so many families get adequate food, water, housing, medical care; just live together without fighting or talking in anger, resentment, confusion and jealousy. What about employment and education? Consider family size? It would be difficult to envision numerous persons going to work on bicycles, dodging animals (lambs, camels, donkeys, etc.) on the street, avoiding traffic police shouting directives, hundreds of students running to classes, and other possibilities that we could not have the privilege of becoming acquainted on a daily basis - - maybe so!! While this was in the process of being written, the United States military had just completed a missile strike aimed at Syrian chemical-installations. Talk about definite serious business; citizens in that area have been in a very dangerous country for ages. We really do not know how much we HONESTLY learn in the news. We do know that families in Syria, as in many other countries, have been devastated, destroyed and injured. It is very sad!! But we must remember that God is in control. How much of the daily news makes you STOP and PRAY not only for your immediate family, and Norwin Alliance Church, Pennsylvania, President Trump; but also for MISSIONS. In today s society a lot of missionary ministry has to be kept in a secret report in order to keep the persons safe. This includes the missions work, as well as the people who believe and put his/her life on the line to serve Jesus. That can be very scary. We do not understand just how serious that can be. Look at the first paragraph again and notice the number of people alive in the world today. Pray for individuals who need Jesus as Lord and Savior. Maybe there is someone who lives only two blocks from you? Or you may work with a person who is struggling? Maybe YOU need to ask Jesus for His salvation? Do not waste time. Jesus is returning soon! Be ready to meet Him! The chorus People Need the Lord has these tremendous words: People need the Lord, People need the Lord, At the end of broken dreams, He s the open door. People need the Lord, People need the Lord, When will we realize People need the Lord. (written by Greg Nelson and Phil McHugh) The Women s Corner By Janis Swope KOINONIA The weather is finally getting nicer and my mind immediately turns to gardening. Don t get me wrong, I m not a pro at gardening; but I enjoy planting seeds and flowers just because I get pleasure out of seeing them grow into something beautiful. I enjoy the colors and variety of plants as I wonder at God s creation. Did you know growing into something beautiful is also God s plan for us? He wants us to learn and grow into beautiful, virtuous women of God. Now, I am not talking about a makeover from the beauty salon. I m talking about a makeover of our soul and spirit. God wants us to grow in His ways as we learn more about Him. He wants us to be kind and loving. He wants us to communicate with Him through prayer. We are His representatives on earth. Living up to this standard can be difficult sometimes. There are times when I slip up and don t live up to this standard. I know it right away and I can feel it in my spirit, but sometimes I push through any way and insist on having my own way instead of God s way. Afterward, I have regret and sadness in my heart. Why do I do this when I am a child of God and know better? I do this because I am still human and not perfect. I then have to try and pick up the pieces of the mess I ve created by not following God s way. I have to ask forgiveness of God and those I have hurt by allowing my natural nature to rule. As Christian women we all struggle with this. This spring and summer the Ladies Bible Study will be looking at twelve women of the Bible who have faced similar difficulties and more and yet honored God with their lives. They are celebrated for their courage, vision, hospitality and spiritual giftedness. Women were very important to God s plan as revealed in the Old and New Testaments. It wasn t their natural qualities that made these women special. It was the power of the God whom they worshipped and served. I pray that you will join us as we examine the lives of these women. This new study will begin Monday, May 21st at 10:30 a.m. in the Craft Room of the church. Join us as we study John MacArthur s book Twelve Extraordinary Women How God Shaped Women of the Bible and What He Wants to Do with You. There will be a sign-up sheet in the narthex so that a book can be reserved for you. The cost is $5.00 for the book. I hope to see you there. The Women s Sunday School Class is looking at Cults and the Essentials of the Christian Faith. The doctrines of the church universal can be difficult to grasp, but they teach us just how great and awesome is our God. If you are interested, please join me and others in the Craft Room at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings.
