Commentary on the Readings for Today: First Reading (Esther 7:1-6, 9-10,; 9:20-22) Esther advocates to the king for her life and the lives of her people. Haman is executed on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. These stories are background for the feast of Purim. Psalm 124 Second Reading (James 5:13-20) James calls for individual and corporate acts of prayer for healing and confession/forgiveness of sin and commends those who seek to restore persons wandering from the faith. The Gospel (Mark 9:38-50) Disciples of Jesus must never place stumbling blocks before others. There will be a benefit dance for 6 year old HALEY WILLIAMS on November 3, 8 pm at Kelly s Landing. In November Hayley will be going to Sick Kids in Toronto for major surgery. This will be her third surgery this year. All donations are most welcome. St. John the Vestry is asked to note that the vestry meeting has been changed to Tuesday, October 30 th, 7:30 pm at the Hall. Prayer for the Planned Archdeaconry Mission to Belize: Loving God, you have called us to share in the gifts of your Kingdom. Christian Education/Bible Study will take place on Fridays, 10 am at St. Matthew s Sunday School Room. During the fall, we will be looking at our Creed. Why do we say the things we do. What are we actually saying when we recite the Creed. How does that translate into living the Christian life. These are some of the questions we will explore together. Come along and bring a friend! Prayers of the People: During our Holy Eucharist services from both the Book of Alternative Services and the Book of Common Prayer there is a time for us to offer our petitions and intercessions to God. This is commonly called the prayers of the people a time for the people to offer to God the prayers of the world, the Church and their community. We are hoping to expand our ministry of prayer.
