Section 1 World Religions This section has two questions for each World Religion. You should answer both of the questions on the World Religion you have studied. Answer either Buddhism or Christianity or Hinduism or Islam or Judaism or Sikhism. Section 2 Morality in the Modern World This section has one question for each of the optional issues. You should answer all parts of the question relating to the issue you have studied. Answer either Gender or Global Issues or Medical Ethics or War and Peace. Section 3 Existence of God This section has one mandatory question. You must answer all parts of the question in this section. The skills of knowledge and understanding (KU) and analysis and evaluation (AE) are being assessed in this paper. SECTION ONE WORLD RELIGIONS Candidates must answer both questions for their chosen World Religion. BUDDHISM Reminder: You should answer both of these questions if you have studied Buddhism in the World Religions Unit. 1. The Human Condition (a) State two of the four Sights the Buddha saw. (b) What is the First Noble Truth? (c) Describe the story of Kisagotami. (d) The story of Kisagotami helps Buddhists. Would all Buddhists agree? Give two reasons for your answer. 3 KU 2. The Means (a) What is meditation? (b) State two examples of Right Livelihood. (c) What is meant by Right Speech? (d) The Noble Eightfold Path is too difficult to follow. Would all Buddhists agree? HINDUISM Reminder: You should answer both of these questions if you have studied Hinduism in the World Religions Unit. 1. The Human Condition The Trimurti (a) Who is the supreme God in Hinduism? (b) Describe one of the three forms of the supreme God. (c) What is meant by Samsara in Hindu belief? (d) Understanding karma helps us understand why we suffer. Would all Hindus agree with this? ISLAM Reminder: You should answer both of these questions if you have studied Islam in the World Religions Unit. 1. JUDAISM Reminder: You should answer both of these questions if you have studied Judaism in the World Religions Unit. 1. The Human Condition What s tomorrow? It s the beginning of the Jewish New Year (a) What is the Jewish New Year called? (b) What religious activities are carried out on this day? (c) What is Yom Kippur? (d) There are more benefits in seeking forgiveness at the start of the new year. Would all Jewish people agree? Give two reasons for your answer. 3 KU 2. The Means Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Exodus 20 v 8 (a) What is the Jewish word for the Sabbath day? (b) State two ways Jewish people keep the Sabbath day holy. SIKHISM Reminder: You should answer both of these questions if you have studied Sikhism in the World Religions Unit. 1. The Goals (a) Describe what is meant by Gurmukh. (b) Why is Naam Simran important? (c) What did people believe about Guru Nanak when he came out of the Bein River? (d) All Sikhs will eventually achieve reunion with God. Would all Sikhs agree? Give two reasons for your answer. 2. The Means I am not just a Sikh, I am a Khalsa Sikh. (a) What is kesh? (b) Why is Guru Gobind Singh important to Sikhs? (c) Describe how someone becomes a Khalsa Sikh. (d) It is impossible to fulfill all the duties of a Khalsa Sikh. Would all Sikhs agree? SECTION TWO MORALITY IN THE MODERN WORLD In this section there is one question for each of the optional areas of study. Candidates must only answer the question for their chosen area of study. 1. GENDER Reminder: You should answer this question if you have studied Gender in the Morality in the Modern World Unit. (a) Describe one traditional role of men in the work place. (b) State two types of work carried out by women in the past. (c) Separate gender roles can cause boys difficulty. Would all religious people agree? Give two reasons for your answer. (d) What is meant by equal opportunities? (e) Describe how some women, in the past, have been treated in the Developing World. (f) Society in the Developing World has to change their attitude towards women. How far would a secular viewpoint agree? Give two reasons for your answer. Page eight

2. GLOBAL ISSUES Reminder: You should answer this question if you have studied Global Issues in the Morality in the Modern World Unit. 3. MEDICAL ETHICS Reminder: You should answer this question if you have studied Medical Ethics in the Morality in the Modern World Unit. (a) What is meant by non-voluntary euthanasia? (b) Describe a religious viewpoint which supports euthanasia. (c) Voluntary euthanasia should be allowed in Scotland. How far would a secular viewpoint agree? Give two reasons for your answer. (d) What is the UK law on euthanasia? (e) Describe two alternatives to euthanasia. (f) Palliative care is a better option than euthanasia. Would all religious people agree? 4. WAR AND PEACE Reminder: You should answer this question if you have studied War and Peace in the Morality in the Modern World Unit.
