Sunday Preschool Program Planting Faith Growing Faith St. Michael s preschool religious education program is here to support you in the faith development of your child. This program is designed for children ages three five. Our weekly sessions strive to help your child grow in his or her prayer life, experience and encourage discipleship, and to know the gifts of belonging to a faith-filled community. Our religious education sessions are led by volunteer catechists who love sharing their faith with our children. We use Pflaum Gospel Weeklies as our curriculum. This curriculum shares the Sunday Gospel reading in an age-appropriate way with the children. The children learn about God as they pray, listen to stories, sing songs, play games, and make crafts. Our PEP program meets on Sunday mornings during the 9:30 Mass from September through April. The classes are held in the original school building in the first and second grade classrooms. Volunteers Needed! Do you enjoy working with children? Would you like to make a difference in the lives of our parish youth? Then we need YOU! We are looking for volunteer teachers and aides. There is no experience needed and training will be provided. All adult volunteers, however, must take the Virtus training which is offered at St. Michael as well as other neighboring parishes. August 16, 2015 St. Michael Church Sharonville, Ohio Ministry of Service St. Vincent de Paul Conference Pope Francis to Archbishop Konrad Krajeweski who is in charge of the Vatican s charity: "Sell Your Desk, You Don't Need it": Pope Francis' Radical Call to Serve the Poor Don't wait for people to come ringing. You need to go out and look for the poor. www.aleteia.org/.../the-vincentian-spirit-of-pope-francis-577441924697 12/4/2013. Pope Francis s words reflect the spirit and ministry of the St. Michael Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society: Spirituality, Friendship and Service. Through YOUR generous donations, St. Michael parishioners, the dedicated members of our SVDP Society do exactly what Pope Francis has requested. They provide food, shelter, and clothing to those in need. They also assist by supplying referrals for job services, legal aid, and medical care. Teams of two St. Vincent volunteers make face-to-face visits that allow our members to assess and understand each situation, giving those in need the most effective aid possible. Members of St. Vincent expressed what it means to them to be a part of this ministry: Being a member of St. Vincent de Paul is a gift. It allows me to feel blessed, as I realize we are able to help those in need helping one person or one family at a time, makes a difference to that particular family at that time. And the more help, the broader Christ s smile. I feel blessed to be surrounded by people in our parish who care greatly about our neighbors. It is a joy to be associated with them. SK Feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and clothe the naked, are words that Jesus spoke to his disciples and now to us this ministry gives me a way to continue Jesus work, acting as one of his modern day disciples. JD Are you asking yourself How can I become a St. Vincent de Paul member? Do I have the gifts and skills to engage in this ministry? Do I have the time? Good questions. This ministry can be challenging, and it will be deeply rewarding if it s a good fit for you! Come and learn more about what we do, with no obligation. Attend our hour-long meeting on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the school library, or email Jan at canjld@fuse.net. The members of the St. Michael Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society THANK ALL OF OUR PARISHIONERS for their generous support. 6 Raise Your Voices in Song to the Lord! Children s Choir Our St. Michael Parish Children s Choir is open to all children in the parish not just students at St. Michael Parish School! The choir is for students in grades 3-8. Boys are especially welcome to join! Practices are on Tuesdays from 4:15-5:15 beginning September 1. If you are interested or would like more information, contact our parish music director, Brian Bisig, at brian@saintmichaelchurch.net or at 563-6377, ext. 301. Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time St. Michael s Athletic Boosters All Sports Night What s Up with St. Michael Parish Sports? CYO has been disbanded and new leagues have been formed. The new Charter on Youth Athletics is now in effect. As a result, we have new bylaws and there are major changes everywhere in St. Michael Parish Athletics. Join us on Monday, August 31 st at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. This is a meeting you do not want to miss! Key information regarding your child's participation in St. Michael s sports for this school year will be shared. **It is strongly recommended that a parent from every family with a student athlete attend for critical information regarding their participation in upcoming seasons.** We will be covering the impact of the new leagues, our new bylaws, the Archdiocesan Decree on Youth Athletics, Booster Fees and Finances, and much more! Keynote Speaker You will enjoy our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Louis Profeta, an Emergency Medicine physician from Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2015, he received an award from the Society of Professional Journalism for his article entitled Your Kid and My Kid are not Playing in the Pros, which has become perhaps one of the most read, discussed, and debated articles in the history of youth sports. It has been shared more than 600,000 times on Facebook and Twitter alone. In addition, it has been reposted in most all major online newspapers in America, has been discussed on countless sports radio shows, and was recently a featured story in the LA Times Sports section. Booster Board Members and sports coordinators will be in attendance to answer questions and provide updates on their respective areas. St. Michael Bridge Group St. Michael s Bridge Group is looking for new members (men and women) to join our group in September. We play casual party bridge and players of all skill levels are welcome. If you are interested in playing bridge with area couples, please call Judy Kloenne at 563-6623 for more information. Preparing for Sunday Summer Bible Study has resumed! We are meeting on Thursdays at noon, in the Ministries Room in the Church. Bringing a Bible will be helpful, though not absolutely necessary (we will have some copies available). We spend time in prayer, reflection, and conversation about the Bible readings we will hear on the next Sunday. Those who come have found that it helps them prepare at home, as well as to listen to the readings more closely in church. Everyone is welcome! We will meet on Thursdays in the Ministries Room at 12:00 noon during both August and September. Catholic Inquiry Sessions Are you, or someone you know, interested in learning about the Catholic Faith? Our Catholic Inquiry Sessions (CIS) may be for you. Participants share their questions and experiences of God on their journey of faith. Sessions are held on alternate Sunday mornings in the undercroft of the Church, usually at 9:30. Sessions continue year round, and you can come at any time. Please look for the signs on the Church doors. Our next Catholic Inquiry Session is scheduled for August 30. For more information on CIS or RCIA, contact Tom Giordano, Pastoral Associate, at 563-6377 ext. 302 or at tom@saintmichaelchurch.net. 7

August 16, 2015 St. Michael Church Sharonville, Ohio Children s Corner Grades K-1 Sharing the Gospel - During Mass the priest changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ. He uses the same words that Jesus did at the Last Supper. "This is my body. This is my blood." When you receive the holy Eucharist, Jesus lives inside you. You live in Jesus. His being with you will help you say, "No," to evil and "Yes," to good. Prayer - Lord, bless all that I eat and drink so that I may follow you forever. Something to Draw - Draw yourself and your family at a table bowing your heads for the blessing. Mission for the Week - I will clean my room without complaining. 2008 - PO Box 510817, New Berlin, WI 53151-0817 1-800-950-9952 x2469 LPiResourceCenter.com Grades 2-3 Sharing the Gospel - Would you like to live forever? Jesus would like you to. God sent Jesus so that one day we could live with him forever in heaven. Remember how the Israelites waited every morning for manna? Do you remember they got so hungry they cried? Well, Jesus wants us to wake up every morning, excited to meet him and talk to him. When we read God's word, and when we pray every day, he wants to come inside our hearts. He wants to be the one to fill every one of our needs. Prayer - Dear God, help me to keep coming back for more of Jesus every single day. Amen. Something to Draw - Draw a picture of yourself reading the Bible. Mission for the Week - Ask your parents if you can have a snack of grape juice and bread today. Talk about how the Israelites came to get manna every morning. How can you as a family make Jesus a part of your day, every day? 2008 - PO Box 510817, New Berlin, WI 53151-0817 1-800-950-9952 x2469 LPiResourceCenter.com 10
