VOLUME 2014, ISSUE 3 A Publication of the Cursillo Movement of the Albany Diocese September 2014 Message from the Rectora It seems the days of summer are almost over and we are now in the season of Indian Summer. I always love this time of year because the weather is still sunny and warm and the leaves on the trees are beginning to turn vibrant colors ~ kind of like DeColores! No two leaves are alike just like no two cursillistas are alike. Even though we are all created by God and are all one in the Spirit, we are all separate individuals with distinct talents and personalities. What a blessing! What GRACE!! Speaking of Grace: Ever since Harrilyn Beehner passed on the Rectora s cross to me, I pray continually to the Holy Spirit for guidance and direction in forming team and in planning for Women s WE #57. Everyone who has ever served as a Rector/Rectora knows that the task on hand is not an easy one; however, the Holy Spirit is always there to love, support and guide. The weekend does not belong to the Rector/ Rectora; it is solely a weekend encounter experience led and carried out by the Holy Spirit and all directed to our Triune God. In my humility, I am learning that lesson. Many things have happened in my planning where afterwards I realized it was not my doing but that of the Holy Spirit s. For example: When I first started forming team back in January, I soon became aware of how many cursillistas we have in our Albany Diocese who are qualified to serve. I was amazed by this and began praying to the Holy Spirit for guidance. My prayers were answered. Our Holy Spirit never lets us down. The men and women serving on team for Women s WE #57 are AWESOME and we continually form a community within a community. Each team member brings a special and unique gift to team meetings. The meditations and rollos are inspiring. I find myself excited to attend team meetings because I know I will be well fed not only physically but, more importantly, spiritually. Each team member is caring and supportive to one another. Our time together flies by and we embrace the reason we gather: to bring the candidates and ourselves closer to Jesus Christ. Where would a Cursillo weekend be without Spiritual Advisors? We are so blessed to have such amazing ones leading us on this journey. Their spirituality is beyond words. We are blessed in having remarkable lay women whose presentations are thought-provoking and heartfelt and a wonderful testament to their spirituality. We are shepherded and supported (no pun intended) by our outstanding Support Team and complemented by the beautiful music led by our Music Coordinator. We have received beautiful verbal and hand-written palanca letters/gifts already. I have been overwhelmed by the goodness and love of our Cursillo community. I find myself eager to share with team all the messages and palanca being lifted up for us. The palanca is affirming and encouraging to us. The Holy Spirit is hard at work within the Cursillo Community of the Albany Diocese. All of this planning and hard work is done in the name and love of Jesus Christ because we want to share this love to others through the Cursillo Weekend experience and throughout our 4 th day. Yet, weekends cannot be held without candidates. So, I encourage all Cursillistas to make a Message from the Lay Director Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, We had a marvelous weekend at the CdC at Pyramid Life Center with 40 Cursillistas from many parts of the Northeast in attendance. The Regional team provided encouragement, guidance and insight into the true charism of Cursillo and how to live it in our 4th day. The food was fantastic and we had fun, as well as discussing serious matters. We are on the right road here in Albany but improvements can always be made. Secretariat, along with School of Leaders will carefully consider the recommendations that could make our movement even better. Much thought, prayer and discussion will be given to changes (if any) that will be made. You will hear more about the CdC in the coming months from me. Now we need to focus on supporting the Women s weekend with our palanca. It will proceed as planned! Please get any applications in to the PO Box asap as well. There is a wonderful team in place under the very able leadership of Marion Rosenthal I hope to see you all at the upcoming Holy Hour, Weekend Closing and Reunion/ Diocesan Ultreya! The S P O N S 0 R S Responsibilities The following has been excerpted from the Sponsor s Booklet put out by the National Cursillo Center. The purpose of sponsoring is to prepare a person or persons who can bring about a change in their environments. You should have a plan on how you are going to do this. Part of your plan would include identifying those individuals with the talents to bring about change; to bring Jesus Christ into their environments. Sponsoring is not a haphazard circumstance... A sponsor should know the candidates very well... Your candidates will become the agents of change in their families, work situations, neighborhoods, social gatherings, etc. Being a sponsor is committing one s self to the selection and preparation of a person for the Cursillo, and ongoing assistance to that person in the Postcursillo. As part of this a sponsor should help the person they sponsor find a small group and bring them to Ultreya. This follow-up should be discussed with candidates before they make a weekend. Remember to Make a Friend, Be a Friend, Bring your Friend to Christ (or to a better relationship with Christ). Always remember to speak to God about the person before speaking to the person about God. It can be said that our Postcursillo will only be as good as our Precursillo. So candidate preparation is an absolute necessity! On September 11 through September 14, 24 members of the Albany Cursillo community participated in Cursillo de Cursillos at beautiful Pyramid Life Center in Paradox, NY with 5 people from the Ogdensburg diocese and 5 people from the New York Archdiocese. Cursillo de Cursillos follows the same format as the Cursillo weekend, but it is only for those who have already made a weekend. The rollos were given by a team from the Northeast Region 1 Cursillo movement. Cursillo de Cursillos is a course on the foundational Charism of Cursillo. It is for Cursillistas who are searching for something beyond the 3 day Cursillo weekend course and have the desire to be effective Christian leaders. Over and over again we heard about LOVE, FRIENDSHIP, PRAYER, FORGIVENESS, LEARNING, LISTENING and, oh yes, LOVE!! It is designed to provide a treasure of knowledge and a living experience of what is essential in the mentality, purpose and methodology of the Movement. This course has provided many Cursillistas with an opportunity to discover the opportunities that Cursillo has to offer the person and the Church. The above has been partially excerpted from an article on the National Cursillo website
