Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 7, 2016 Our soul waits for the LORD, who is our help and our shield. Psalm 33:20 THE SPECIAL COLLECTIONS for this weekend are for the Catholic Home Missions Appeal and the Church in Latin America. Many dioceses here at home face challenges due to priest shortages, lack of funds, remote geography, or impoverished parishes. The Home Missions Appeal answers these needs. We also celebrate the important milestone of 50 years of solidarity with the Church in Latin America. The Church there faces many challenges, including lack of access to resources that the faithful need to nourish their spiritual lives. Your support will truly make a difference. Please be generous! Bus Trip to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Middletown September 17, 2016 The purpose of the trip is to pass through a Holy Door of Mercy, one of the requirements for gaining a plenary indulgence during Pope Francis' Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. A plenary indulgence is meant to wipe clean the sense of guilt or shame we carry inside ourselves, knowing ourselves to be sinners. We can gain the indulgence either for ourselves or a deceased loved-one. In additional to passing through the Holy Door, the sacrament of Reconciliation will be made available during our visit. There is also a lovely chapel, beautiful grounds, and a gift shop to visit, plus sandwiches and soft drinks will be served. The bus will leave St. Francis de Sales in Phoenicia at 8:15AM, St John's in Woodstock at 9:00AM and outside Kingston Physical Therapy in the Kingston Plaza for St. Joseph parishioners at 9:30AM. We should arrive at the Shrine by 10:30AM. Confessions will be heard from 11:00AM- 12:00PM. Lunch will be served from 12:30-1:00PM. The bus will depart the Shrine at 1:30PM, arriving back in Kingston at 2:30PM, Woodstock by 3:00PM and Phoenicia by 3:30PM. The cost, which includes transportation and lunch and is non-refundable, is $10.00. The deadline for registration will be Wednesday, August 31. Seating is limited, so make your reservation early. Reservations are first come, first served basis. Abraham is called father in faith by more people on earth than anybody else, numerous as the sands of the seashore or the stars of the heavens. Hebrews tells us it was this foundational faith that led Abraham to obey God s call when he heard it, though he was called to journey to a land he did not know and told he would father a mighty race through a marriage he thought was barren. But Abraham s faith, the author of Hebrews tells us, was his realization of what he hoped for, and the evidence of what he could not see. How often are we, in simple daily events of our own Christian vocation, called to an unfamiliar place or told we are to do something we do not believe we can? How fortunate we are to have Father Abraham as our guide and example! ~Father George Robert & Lois Minnick Phil Kopp Herb O-Brien Demetri H. Patti Rice Michael L.
