Notices: Maurice s new role as Caretaker and Pastoral Worker has begun! In this new role, Maurice will continue to have oversight of the security and cleanliness of the Church and halls and surrounding areas, he will prepare the premises for services, meetings, events and bookings. In addition, we are delighted to confirm that Maurice will take part in the pastoral activities of Christ Church, predominantly Open Doors, Community Lunch and Craft Community. As a result of this change, Maurice will not now have responsibility for maintenance. All Maintenance issues are now being handled externally and any maintenance requests should be sent to the churchwardens or the church office. Please pray for Maurice as he moves forward in this new exciting role. Our Care in Action group would love to hear from any driver in the congregation who would like to occasionally or regularly give a lift to those who need it. In the first instance we are looking for anyone who could offer a lift on Tuesdays, to events such as Open Doors and Community Lunches, or Sundays, to any of the services. Please speak to Uzo or Nick or email them via the church office to let them know if you can help, or to discuss further. Please note that any items left on the church premises are left at your own risk. The halls are very busy and doors can sometimes be left open unattended. Please take any valuables home with you. FREE children s books - Explorers have some children s books that they no longer require. Please do take a look at them at the back of church and take home if you would like - no charge! Events in the local area: St Paul s Community Choir Autumn Concert Saturday 18 th November, 7.30pm in the church. The main work is Vivaldi's 'Gloria'. Christ Church Beckenham Bulletin Please pray for all items in this bulletin and for: www.ccb.org.uk * Jean Hunter for investigations in the PRUH, Medical 9. * Ann McGill who is in the PRUH having had a stroke. * Lesley Iliffe in Lewisham Hospital after a fall. * Those who usually cannot get to church - Audrey Anderson, Audrey Carter, Gaius and Nest Davies, Joe Gilbert, Dilys Greenwood, Jean Hunter, Margaret and Pamela Krombach, Peggy McGill, Jean Mills, Michael and Heidi Sanderson, Allen Stoffel, Annette Styles, Elizabeth Swaffield and Celia Tickner. Mission Partners Paul & Kate Bown and children Lydia & Christopher. Paul works with ReachAcross in Birmingham. Over the last two weeks Paul has been part of the planning team for a conference in Birmingham called Fruitful Not Fearful: serving together with MBBs for mutual fruitfulness. This was the 8th annual one-day conference to promote church-building amongst Muslims in Britain, sponsored by The Right Way, a group based in High Wycombe. The conference took place on Saturday 4th November. Approximately 150 attended. Many Christians from a Muslim background (CMBs) gave their testimonies. It was a very encouraging meeting and Paul and the organisers hope that all who attended will have been encouraged as they seek to work alongside their CMB friends to see the church grow and develop. The ReachAcross intern programme is further developing. A Taiwanese ReachAcross worker has been working on facilitating East Asians to join the programme, so that they can be trained for future work in the Middle East. Paul has been researching the tax situation for these and other workers and has been giving advice concerning visa applications. The International Director of ReachAcross and his wife are travelling to Africa again for the final programme among refugees. Paul has been ordering equipment for them to take and formatting English and Arabic booklets for printing. Paul has been meeting an Algerian shopkeeper during the evenings, but he has now moved shops so it has been difficult to re-establish contact. Lydia is now at Southampton University reading Pure and Marine Biology. She is enjoying it very much. Christopher is busy with GCSE preparations and his football refereeing. Kate continues to work at different schools. Just a few days ago Paul s elderly mother had a fall and broke her arm, so that puts more of a burden on Kate in particular when Paul is away. Please pray that the visas for the East Asian voluntary workers would come through and that they would settle quickly into the Birmingham context. 2017 Missionary Support: We are so thankful for the generous financial support of our congregation for CCB s mission partners. The total donated following the mission support weekend, once gift aid and other donations are added, comes to 33,471.21, which has enabled us to meet their budgetary requirements for 2018 in full. The missionary committee wish to say thank you to all those who have supported our mission partners this year through prayer and financial provision. 8
