Jonah and the Whale Nineveh Joppa

Jonah and the Whale Jonah Chapters 1-4 God spoke to Jonah, the son of Amittai, asking him to go to Nineveh and cry out against it. He was to tell the people to stop their wicked ways and to start following God. Jonah didn t want to follow God s instructions and decided to run away instead. He went to Joppa and found a ship that was sailing to Tarshish, a city in the opposite direction of Nineveh. He paid the fare and hopped on, hoping God wouldn t find him. But God sent a great storm. It made the people on the ship very scared. They were afraid the boat would break. They cast lots to see who was responsible. Jonah came up with the short straw. Jonah told the others on the boat that he was disobeying orders from God. He told them to throw him into the sea. The sailors threw Jonah into the sea and straight away the storm was gone. The seas were calm again. But Jonah didn t drown. God looked after him. A whale came along and swallowed Jonah. In the belly of the whale, Jonah prayed to God and repented. He was very sorry about trying to run away.

Jonah and the Whale Jonah Chapters 1-4 He would do what God had asked him to do. He would go to Nineveh. Jonah spent three days in the belly of the whale before it spat him out onto land. Jonah went to Nineveh and preached. telling them that in forty days God would destroy the city. The Ninevites heard Jonah and believed him. They repented and God forgave them. He didn t destroy their city. This made Jonah mad. He didn t understand why God had not destroyed the enemies of Israel - the Ninevites. Jonah went to rest outside the city. God grew a vine to shelter Jonah from the hot sun. The next day, a caterpillar came and ate at the vine making it whither. This made Jonah get hot from the sun as he had no shelter anymore. It also made him angry and he complained to God. God scolded Jonah. He should be more concerned about the people of Nineveh, not about the vine that was giving him shelter. In this story we learned about how God controls everything and how much He loves and cares about every one of us.
