In our final initiation degree, Datcher along with the Subordinate Chapters are engaged in the Jewel Contest. The GTGC Jewel Contest is a ritualistic excellence competition held at the final initiation degree, The Amaranth. This special degree supplies all new candidates with solid life lessons of truth, faith, wisdom and charity; in hopes that they will take those lessons to heart and govern themselves in life and within our society. The winner of the Jewel Contest is the Chapter scoring the highest in ritualistic excellence during the degree. PM Glaceria Mason and PP Allen Caster are the 2015 New Member Advisors. In an attempt to strengthen the foundation exemplified in the initiation process, they will host a New Member Information Session. A Look Ahead.. 5K The GTGC s annual charity event, the Margaret E. Anderson GTGC-HU- Breast Cancer Walk is Saturday, October 17, 2015 @ 9:00 am (RAIN OR SHINE) at the new Ballou High School, 4 th Street, SE, Washington. The Most Worshipful Grand Master, Norman L. Campbell will host the Grand Master s Ball this fall. All members are encouraged and invited to dress up, come out and have a grand evening. Williams College of Masonry Fall Enrollment Underway The Masonic College Leadership Academy is continuing its tradition of educating this jurisdiction's members and leaders with the precepts of Leadership and Management in Freemasonry and Eastern Stardom. Therefore, classes for the 2015 Fall Semester will resume on Saturday, September 12, 2015. In preparation for the 2015 Fall Semester, it has been determined that registration will be held for forty (40) students only. Please be advised that seventeen (17) of those (40) were "wait listed" from the 2015 Spring Semester overflow of registrants. This action resulted in only twenty-three (23) available slots remaining for the 2015 Fall Semester. Those slots will be filled on a FIRST COME - FIRST REGISTERED BASIS, REGARDLESS OF NEED. Those missing the cut-off of 23 may register for the 2016 Spring Semester. Please obtain and complete the Student Registration and Student Enrollment forms (available from the Secretary) and email to Masoniccollegeladc@gmail.com. Please adhere to the registration dates beginning August 14th and ending August 28th. NO FORMS will be accepted before the beginning date or after the ending date. There will be no exceptions. The More You Know. Datcher History To honor our history, we shine the spotlight on Datcher members,the late PGWM Martha P. Ross, Sister Dovey J. Roundtree, Esq and PM Louise L. Hopkins. The late Martha P. Ross served Datcher Chapter as Worthy Matron in 1941 with the late Worthy Patron Walter Brooker. In 1967, PM Martha P. Ross was elected Grand Worthy Matron of the Georgiana Thomas Grand Chapter of the DC Jurisdiction. That year, PGWM Ross activity was the 75th Diamond Jubilee Banquet, where chapter member, well-known DC attorney, activist, and minister, Sister Dovey J. Roundtree, Esq served as the Mistress of Ceremonies. Sister Dovey Johnson Roundtree joined Datcher Chapter in 1942 and had been a member 25 years at the time of the GTGC s 75 th Diamond Jubilee Banquet. Sis Roundtree is known as a civil rights activist, lawyer, and ordained minister. In 2013, Allen Chapel AME, one of the oldest churches in Ward 8, in conjunction with Vision of Victory Community Development Corporation completed construction of Roundtree Residences, a 100-unit affordable senior housing development, named in honor of Dovey J. Roundtree. Dovey Roundtree ministered for many years at Allen Chapel AME and became a Centenarian on April 17, 2014. Louise Lewis Hopkins served Datcher Chapter as Worthy Matron in 1963 with the late Worthy Patron Myron R. Ross (the husband of the late PM Laura N. Ross (1952) and the father of the late PMs Evelyn R. Kennerson (1961) and Yvonne R. Gross (1966)). PM Hopkins continues to be a stalwart member of Datcher Chapter No. 7 and her love for Datcher shows in her acts of kindness and generosity she shares. Always the avid historian and journalist, PM Hopkins served as GTGC Grand Publicist for 15 years and on the the Masonic Digest staff for many years. She now holds the title of Emeritus to the Digest. In 1979, PM Hopkins received the first Edna F. Browne Award for Journalism. In 2014, Allen Chapel honored PM Hopkins for her contributions. Datcher Communicator oesdatcher7@yahoogroups.com Page 4

Did You Know that Charles Datcher Lodge #15 received its Charter in 1900 and Datcher Chapter #7 received its Charter in 1904? DATCHER CONGRATULATES YOU.. As we continue to support, cheer, and share in the pride of our Sisters and Brother s accomplishments, we say great job! Congratulations to PM Glaceria Mason for chairing the 2015 GTGC Scholarship, participating on the planning committee and being an effective Mistress of Ceremonies at the June Scholarship Program. Congratulations to Sister Ramona Edelin, Ph.D. who made Datcher proud as she served as the effectivee keynote speaker for the 2015 PHFESCF, MWPHGL & GTGC Joint Scholarship Program on June 6, 2015. Yearwood, Jr. served Datcher Chapter No. 7 as Worthy Patron for 10 years from 1948 to 1957. He later went on to become Grand Worthy Patron of the Georgiana Thomas Grand Chapter, DC Jurisdiction and rose to the highest level authority, the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Master.
