When I remember you in my prayers, I always thank my God because I hear of your love for all the saints and your faith toward the Lord. Philemon 4-5 Dear friends in Christ, The apostle Paul wrote those words to Philemon, a fellow Christian who used to welcome people into his home for worship and fellowship. This happened in the days when Christians were not worshiping in church buildings but in private homes. Philemon was a wonderful Christian who deeply loved the Lord and his fellow Christians. He refreshed the hearts of many people with his love and ministry. Paul wrote this personal letter to express his gratitude for all the wonderful things he was doing and to ask him a personal favor. There is someone among us who reminds me of Philemon. That person is Pastor Henry Moyer, who for the past twenty years has served Zion as a visitation pastor. Unlike Philemon, Pastor Moyer didn t do his ministry from his home. Instead, he went to people s homes to share his faith, the Lord s Supper, and prayer. In doing so, he brought much joy, comfort and encouragement to many of our members, especially to those who couldn t come to church because of old age and other reasons. People often talk about how they appreciated his visits and how they have been blessed by his ministry. So, as Paul thanked God for Philemon, we too thank our God for our fellow servant saying, Thank you Pastor Moyer for twenty years of extraordinary ministry here at Zion. God bless you. With gratitude, Pastor Ale President s Corner: Connie Hamre Seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you, ask and it shall be given. Matthew 7:7 The annual meeting was a blessing is many ways. There was a

great group of people, that attended and took a real interest in the workings of our church. The Budget for 2010, was approved. Our call committee was elected, from a group of 12 members. I appreciate all that those that volunteered to have their name on the ballot. Now that we have the call committe for the new Senior pastor, I ask for your support and prayers for these people, and the task they have before them. A big thank you for all that helped put the whole thing together. A special thank you goes to Dilene, especially for her patience, in putting together the materials for it. One of the items discussed at the annual meeting, was the continuing one service. Please feel free to contact me with your comments and ideas, for the future of our church. Also, we really need van drivers, to help get our parishioners, to church services. If you could possibly help, please contact Galen Clow, tel # 681-2182. The recognition programs for Pastor Gary Johnson, and Pastor Henry Moyer, will be on February 7, and February 21, respectively, (after the church services that day). The plan is to have a program and a potluck brunch. If you would like to donate towards a gift for each of them, please contact the office. I want to encourage you to join me in thanking these men for the HUGE contributions that they have given us at Zion. They have been so very generous in giving o f their time and talents, for us, and so many others. Looking forward, February, we have many opportunities for Zion. In addition, to the recognitions for our pastors. We have February Fling on the 14th, and Ash Wednesday on February 17th. The start of Lent, will mark our way to the celebration of Easter. The suppers, that our ladies have, are a special treat, that are added to our weekly Lenten services. And, let us not forget, the Flapjacks for Faith, in support of our youth. Please remember Pastor Ale, and his helpers in your prayers. If you can help with any of his duties, I am sure he would welcome it. He, especially, has need of help with home visitation and home communion. A call committee for a new senior pastor will be elected from church members at the annual meeting. The committee will consist of 6 members; 5 seniors and 1 youth. Silver Creek will be asked to have someone represent their congregation since they share in the pastor. Stewardship Board: Sharon Hoglo reported money had been put into the proposed budget for a senior pastor. A statement of contributions will be sent out to members that had contributed this past year by the end of January. She stated that bulk mailing postage had risen just about double. For those that use simply giving, there are envelopes for their use if wanted for church service and just write simply giving on the envelope. Lay Ministry: Jim Dalager reported they have meal in a basket available for members returning from the hospital. They are looking for volunteers to help with home communion. Public Relations Board: Deb Howe reported they have been working on new member folders. She also reminded us that we will have Falls Delivered Meals in February. Sign-up sheets are posted in the church. Silver Creek: Penny Nelson, representative from Silver Creek Lutheran thanked Zion for their help for their fall supper and annual meeting. He stated that he is kept very busy with no senior pastor and with Pastor Moyer completing his duties at Zion. He is encouraging volunteering for home communion as well as home visitations. He stated that as soon as the call committee is elected, there will be guidance available. Pastor Ale suggested looking into

hiring an interim pastor until a Senior pastor is called. Jim Dalager moved to hire an interim pastor; motion died lack of a second. It was decided that the possibility of an interim pastor would be revisited, giving the call committee a change to see what is possible. We are asking for volunteers from our members to help out with duties in need. We are looking for van drivers at this time. Reminder of the annual meeting on January 24 th ; free will offering brunch following the meeting. Recognition plans have been set for Pastor Johnson and Pastor Moyer. Stewardship Board There is concern from a number of church members regarding the money that will go to the ELCA since the August decision regarding homosexual partners. A question was brought to us regarding the possibility of changing the giving designation on our 1020 contribution envelopes. However, the church envelopes were ready to go out and the designations could not be changed due to time and cost constraints If members have any requests regarding where their contributions should be going, please direct those concerns to Dilene in the church office Call Committee Elected The following were elected at the annual meeting to begin a search for a senior pastor at Zion Lutheran Church.
