A registered OSU Student Group, King Avenue Campus Ministry seeks to nurture young adults in an inclusive faith environment as they attend college. A typical year in King Avenue s Campus Ministry includes Bible Study, prayer, fellowship, service, and lots of food! Last year our Campus Ministry served students from here in Columbus and as far away as Arizona as they attended classes in our neighborhood. If you re interested in learning more or volunteering (cooking for 12, mostly), please contact anna@kingave.org.
P AGE 4 Join us on Sunday, August 3rd for our Blessing of the Bikes! This year we ll bless all bikes... bicycles, motorcycles, and scooters. We ll have a simple service of blessing outside (South Parking Lot) at 10am for those attending Morning Blend. For those attending the Traditional 11am service, we will have a blessing at 12pm. followed by a group ride (geared towards motorcycles/ scooters) ending with a stop for lunch. The ride will be organized by Pam Higgins and June Bibler. We d like to extend a special invitation to those riding in Pelotonia! CAMPUS MINISTRY by Anna Guillozet It is time to welcome back our OSU students! In August find King Avenue UMC at the Ohio State University Student Involvement Fair on the 24 th. Any student is welcome to join us for our welcome back dinner and meet and greet on Tuesday, August 26 th at 6:30pm. We ll meet in the Logos Lounge. We will be hosting a Meet & Greet before and after the 11am service. We'd like to learn a little bit about you and we'll share with you a little bit about Spectrum. Spectrum is an inclusive group. Friends, family and allies are always welcome. Our events are centered around fun and fellow- ship and, of course, food! Join our K i t c h e n Crew on Sunday, September 28 as we host our fall luncheon. Our Coming Out With God support group continues to meet every Monday in the Fireside Room at 6:30pm. KING AVENUE PLAYERS by Max Moore King Avenue Players to present The Wizard of Oz November 6-9, 2014 Dorothy Gale, Toto and and her three companions will search out the Great Wizard of Oz this fall at King Avenue, in this musical version of the classic 1939 film. Auditions for adult roles will be held at the church at 6:30pm on September 7 & 8. An audition for children will be held at 3pm on September 7. This is a large-scale production, so in addition to actors, King Avenue Players is looking for individuals to fill the following positions: producer, rehearsal accompanist, performance keyboardist, set builders and costume seamstresses. King Avenue Players' productions are always a lot of fun, and are a great way to get involved, expand your horizons, and share fellowship with new people! P AGE 8 NEW LIFE UMC by Evy Hummon Archie Griffin, the only two time Heisman Trophy winner, will be the Keynote Speaker for the New Life UMC 12 th Annual Buckeye Season Kickoff Party Fundraiser which will be held on Tuesday, August 26, at Villa Milano, 1630 Schrock Rd. The proceeds of the event will be used to provide meals, clothing, health care and other necessities for people who are poor and homeless in Columbus. As a part of this fundraiser, a Silent Auction will be held. Donated items will be gratefully accepted; we are especially interested in athletic tickets, time share weeks, OSU clothing/items, household items, antiques, jewelry, and purses or such. CARILLON P AGE 9 STONE VILLAGE CHURCH by John Wooden August Gallery Hop Stone Village Art Gallery presents, Urban Blend by Joss Parker and Christopher Cropper. Two Columbus artists and friends join in collaboration to mix & mash their respective techniques as well as styles within the Urban genre of contemporary art. The opening reception for Urban Blend is Saturday, August 2 from 5:30-8pm. Next stop German Village In the fall of 2014, Stone Village Church (SVC) will launch a satellite worship service at Gates Fourth UMC, located a few blocks south of Schiller Park in German Village. The new service will be a replica of SVC's current morning worship services, yet offered later in the day as a means of growing our community and reaching out to those beyond our walls in the Short North Arts District. This is an exciting and celebratory moment in Stone Village s life, speaking to our spirit, our vitality, our courage, and our identity as faithful members of Christ s body to go forth into the world and make disciples in his name. Blessing of the Animals On Sunday, August 24 at 10am, SVC will offer its Blessing of the Animals worship service in the park behind our facility at 139 E. 2nd Avenue. We invite all creatures, big and small, plus their owners, to join with us in this service of blessing.
