Black & Indian Home Missions and Catholic Home Missions 2nd Collection Right here in the United State, some dioceses are unable to provide fundamental pastoral care for their faithful. These home mission dioceses cannot support an adequate number of priests. They cannot afford funding for youth ministry programs or religious education. This week we take up a collection for the Catholic Home Missions Appeal. Help strengthen the Church at home with a generous donation. Olive wood carvings will be sold outside the church next weekend after the Masses Sponsored by THE GOOD SHEPHERD Olivewood handcrafted from the Holy land A Traditional Art & Livelihood for Holy land Christians WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS April 25, 2010 Today, Good Shepherd Sunday, is a special day for everyone in our parish. We celebrate World Day of Prayer for Vocations. We ask that we may be filled with joy and the Holy Spirit as we carry on the mission of Jesus, our Good Shepherd. Let us pray for one another that we may be strengthened in our Christian vocations as married and single people, priests, deacons and religious. May our youth listen to God s call and be encouraged to respond generously. A Prayer Before the Blessed Sacrament for the Increase of Priestly and Religious Vocations Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Eternal Father, Son of the Virgin Mary, we thank you for offering your life in sacrifice on the Cross, and for renewing this sacrifice in every Mass celebrated throughout the world. In the Power of the Holy Spirit we adore you and proclaim your living presence in the Eucharist. We desire to imitate the love you show us in your death and resurrection, by loving and serving one another. We ask you to call many young people to religious life, and to provide the holy and generous priests that are so needed in your Church today. Lord Jesus, hear our prayer. Amen The Olivewood carving industries has evolved as a cultural tradition of the Christians over many centuries. Many Holy land Christians in the Bethlehem area alone rely upon income generated from this art form. The items are carved by local craftsmen. Many families are facing critical situations. Without income, many craftsmen and families leave their tradition trade and emigrate with their families to find relief from the difficult conditions of their Homeland. Christian presence in the Holy land has extended from Pentecost to the present 60 years ago. Christians represented more that 28% of the population and now represent less than 2%. The loss of Christians in the land of Christianity s birth will represent a tragedy of immeasurable proportions for the billions of Christians worldwide. Thank you for your vital support for a Christian Tradition and in protecting this very important culture. THANK YOU THANK YOU To all who contributed to the recent St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive. Without your help, we would not be able to attend to those families who need emergency assistance within the parish boundaries. Our volunteers work very hard to ensure everyone who asks for food and help will have their needs met. We truly appreciate your present & past generosity. Thank you, St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Veronica Parish
