PRAYER AND READING TIME LOG

Challenge: To Read Through the Bible in a Year

Transcription:

What Basic Things Take Place During A Salt & Light Bible Discussion? A suggested format to follow for Salt & Light groups Please be sure to include the following things throughout the evening. REVIEW: As soon as each person arrives, get a partner, exchange scripture memory verse cards, and review your old verses. Why review? If you don t use it you lose it! PRAY: Leader gathers everyone for prayer. NEW SCRIPTURE MEMORY VERSE: Each person hands their new verse card to the person on their right. One at a time each person says their new verse to the whole group. Leader: pass around the Scripture Memory Chart at this time so each person can record their new verse. Usually other group members like to record in their journal those verses that others are sharing. Using them for future use or as something God is speaking to them about. Leader: also pass around the Bible Reading Chart at this time. SHARING FROM THE WORD: Next, each person shares from the Word individually. How has God been talking to them? Everyone turns to the book, chapter and verse in the Bible where the speaker is sharing in their reading. Usually other group members record the references that are being shared. At this time stories and examples of how God is using His Word are shared from the person that is talking. This continues around the room until each person has had a chance to share what God has been teaching them in His Word. CLOSE IN PRAYER 11

Salt & Light Distinctives 1. Reading relationally at your God directed pace through the entire Bible. What is reading relationally? You interact with the Author as you read! 2. The only time table you are on for reading through the entire Bible is how much God directs you to read each day. my sheep hear my voice (John 10:27) 3. Treasuring God s Word in our hearts (Psalm 119:9,11). Why Scripture Memory? We want to be able to tell people what God says, not what we think. We are not the expert, we just know the Expert. Our job is to get people to God. He s the Almighty Counselor, not us. 4. Leaders are cheerleaders and coaches. Our job is to help the members of our group to accomplish their goal of reading relationally through the entire Bible and memorizing scripture. 5. Our goal is to encourage people to be selffeeding Christians. May this be our mindset when we read a Christian book, hear a sermon, or listen to a Christian leader, etc that they would make us hungry to go hear from God! What they share is not the meal, but only the appetizer. God never intended for us to live off of others, but to live off of Him. We learn how to ask Him questions and interact with Him as we read. Instead of trying to open your own mind to understand the scriptures, pray, Lord, will You open my mind to understand the scriptures? (Luke 24:45) Hang on for the ride of your life, because He will! 6. Be transparent, open, and honest as you share your hearts with each other. Be involved in each other s lives and have fun and enjoy each other. Pray and even fast for each other, serve each other, go the extra mile as the need arises. Become a family! 7. Keep short accounts with each other and God. Pray fervently together that God would bless Salt & Light with the things on His heart, and that He would enlarge our borders for the sake of His Kingdom and that He would keep His hand upon us. (1 Chronicles 4:10) Detach and laminate the Salt & Light Distinctives bookmark (outlined to the left). Keep the bookmark in your Bible and periodically read over it! How exciting that you are willing to invest your time in things that last for eternity! Now unto Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we could ask or think according to His power that mightily works within you (Ephesians 3:20) Will you join me in believing God will do big things in and through us? It is true! He is just waiting for you to ask! Hang on for the ride of your life! Remember EVERYTHING is a prayer request! A large group of college students were gathered to hear a brother in the Lord share the Word with them. At the end of the evening a number of students approached him and were awestruck with how the Word just flowed from His heart as He spoke. He was not using any notes as He was sharing. They expressed to this brother that they too wanted to be God s vessel like that and wondered how he got to that point. Do you know what his answer was? He told them, I just read through the Bible and when I finish I start over, and I keep starting over and will read through the Bible over and over until I leave this earth. My mind is continually being washed with His Word, the whole counsel of God. I too have been challenged by this brother and may we challenge each other as well! Never again will you have to wonder where to read when you have your time with the Lord, because when you are reading through the entire Bible, you just pick up where you left off! You know, when you hang around Someone, when you re in Their presence, you eventually start talking like them and thinking like them, and even acting like them. In His presence is where we want to be! Jesus ministered to others out of the abundance of His relationship with the Father. God has not called us to ANYTHING but Himself and everything else flows from that call! (see John 15:5) We encourage everyone involved in Salt & Light to invest in Bibles. Keep the Bibles and copies of Where Do I Begin? in your car. Now you are always ready, no matter where you go or who may cross your path. You will give away these Bibles to anyone God tells you needs to receive this gift. Why do we give away Bibles? Our job is to get people to God because Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17) We spend money on a lot of other things, so to spend it on Bibles is a great investment. The Truth is the greatest gift you could ever give to anyone! You may want to print this letter out and keep it with your resource materials Remember Pioneering (starting something new) involves Patience and Prayer! Please do Plenty of that! Stay in touch and feel free to call or email if you need anything! All For His Glory!
