PARISH NEWS WELCOME If you are here today to celebrate Easter with us and have some issues that have kept you away from the church for awhile, we welcome you and are glad that you are here. Come back again and always feel free to call and find out more about our parish. You are important to us so keep in touch! OUR NEW MEMBERS What a glorious night for all of us! At the Easter Vigil we welcomed Diana Bryant, Sophie Egerter and Matt Salamone. They were received into full communion, confirmed in the Spirit and received the Eucharist for the first time. They have all traveled closely with the Lord this past Lent and embraced His life in a new way this Easter. Please encourage and support them in the Catholic community with your prayers and hospitality. We are blessed by their presence with us. They will continue to meet each Thursday night in April during this Period of Mystagogy - a time to deepen the mystery. WHAT A NIGHT! The food was delicious and the company grand after the Easter Vigil last night. Thanks to all who baked or decorated or helped in any way to coordinate such a wonderful celebration of welcome and new life. Special thanks to so many for all their hard work! SEEKING Easter Sunday is a day all about seeking. The early Christian communities gathered around the Apostles, seeking more about the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus. Saint Paul told the baptized Colossians to seek what is above. Mary of Magdala went to the tomb, seeking to find the Lord s body so that she could anoint it. We come to church on Easter Sunday seeking many things. For some of us, this is a once a year journey, when we seek connection with the foundations of the Christian faith. For others, this day is the culmination of a long journey of Lenten repentance. For the newly baptized, this is the first day of a new life filled with promise and expectation. Whatever it is that we seek, let us be inspired by the disciple whom Jesus loved who, when he saw the wrappings of cloth inside the empty tomb, saw and believed. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co FRIDAY NIGHTS FAMILY NIGHTS Please join our parish families for Friday Nights Family Nights (FN2)! Mark your calendar for Friday, April 1. Good Shepherd Atrium sessions resume on Tuesday, March 29 th. Christ is Risen Alleluia! THANKS FROM THE HEART Our heartfelt thanks to all who decorated the church through this Holy Week. Many hands and much talent helped us change the environment and provide a powerful atmosphere for worship during this incredible journey with Jesus the Christ. We remember, we celebrate, we believe! ANOINTING OF THE SICK Anyone in need of the power of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is invited to come to the 9 AM Mass on Sat. April 2 This sacrament offers strength to us in body, mind or spirit. If you are in need of this sacrament immediately, please call ext. 10 to make arrangements. SACRAMENTAL Kicking off Confirmation Preparation Do you hope to receive Confirmation this Fall of 2016? All 8 th grade families are asked to attend a brief and prayerful meeting regarding details about important elements of Confirmation preparation on Sunday, April 3 at 3pm. We re coming together to pray and cover details regarding sponsors and Confirmation names. Bring your registration form and covenant paper with you. (It was mailed to you last week.) Confirmation Preparation sessions will take place from 6:30-8:30pm on Wednesdays in May (the 4 4h, 11 th, 18 th & 25 th ). Each session builds upon the last so please make every effort to attend each session from beginning to end. Each missed session will have to be made up promptly. We ll start each session with Mass at 6:30 pm and parents & siblings are welcome to join us. BAPTISM PREP If you have been blessed with new life in your family through birth or adoption, we are glad to have you share that life with us through Baptism. The diocese asks us to take this step with knowledge and prayer. A Baptism Preparation Session will be held on Sunday, April 17 from 10:30 till noon. Other dates are May 15 & June 12. Please call the Rel. Ed. office (ext.12). ADULT CONFIRMATION Did you miss the sacrament of Confirmation when you were growing up? Maybe you decided you weren't ready when you were 14 or maybe you moved, etc. Is this the year to be filled with the Holy Spirit? Any baptized practicing Catholic adult over 18 yrs. old, is invited to prepare now and then celebrate the sacrament with the diocese at the cathedral on May 17. Please call Barb Stokes if you are interested or want more information. Paperwork must be submitted soon, so please contact the Rel. Ed. office. SPIRITUAL RESURRECTION BOOK Believe it or not - some people don t like candy or flowers for Easter! Consider giving them a great new book The Resurrection Experience Life in the Risen Christ. In 12 profound meditations on Biblical Encounters with the Risen Lord, the author, Fabrice Hadjadj, asks us to alter the way we view our relationships with others - service, food, money, Scripture and more. Maybe a gift? Maybe for you? Take a look on the lobby shelf. Cost is $10 - money well spent! OTHER BOOKS Don t forget to include some reason for the season gifts in those Easter baskets. Check out our books and magnetic sets on the lobby table. We always need encouragement as we follow the Risen Christ. WHY DO CATHOLICS DO THAT? The Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen said, There is not one hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be. We welcome you to invite a spouse, sibling, child, coworker or friend curious about the Catholic faith to the next Curious About Catholicism? event on March 29 th at 7:00 PM in the Cardinal Di- Nardo Center at SS John and Paul Church, just west of t h e I - 7 9 W e x f o r d E x i t. 'FROM THE STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE This week, March 27, the quote from Pope Francis is: The Cross of Christ is not defeat: the Cross is love and mercy'. A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE BY BUD OZAR That first Easter morning was confusing. Jesus was missing and Mary Magdalene, Peter and John did not know what to do. In family life there are confusing moment when we don t know what to do. Like the apostles we are Easter people when we believe and trust in each other even when all seems lost. OUTREACH PLEASANT VALLEY MENS SHELTER The next Men s Shelter dinner is Friday, April 1st. If you would be willing to provide a side dish, casserole, dessert, salad, fruit or beverage, please contact Phyllis Huber (412-367-1437) or Cathy Gillis (412-548-3646). If you would prefer to donate an item (coffee, tea, creamers, granola bars, breakfast items which are always welcomed), be sure to let us know so we do not miss picking up those items from the kitchen in Bovard Hall.
