Finding Aid General George Crook Chapter, D.A.R. 1 FINDING AID for the General George Crook Chapter Collection of the National Daughters of the American Revolution located in Prescott, Arizona Scope and Content: The administrative records from 1927 through 2004 Size of Collection: 9 manuscript boxes (#452 #460) Processed by: Marcia Heringa Mason, volunteer Completion date: April 4, 2005 Added records processed: January 25, 2006 INTRODUCTION The General George Crook Chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution, located in Prescott, Arizona, was organized on June 7, 1927. The name was selected in honor of General George Crook, who was a descendant of Revolutionary ancestors and a prominent figure in local history. When Fort Whipple was first established by the war department, General Crook was in charge of military operations in this part of Arizona and was a leading factor in finally securing a peaceful foothold with the Native Americans near Prescott and in Camp Verde. He was held in high esteem by the pioneers of Prescott. Fourteen women were included in the list of those organizing the chapter, and a number of others were added when their applications were approved by the national society. Sharlot Hall was among the charter members. The collection consists of the administrative records of the chapter, scrapbooks and photographs, as well as some state and national material. The comprehensive dates of the records range from 1927 through 2004.
