Serves in Saul s court Defeats Goliath around 17 Becomes close friend to Jonathan, Saul s son Appointed armor-bearer to Saul Banished from Saul s court because of jealousy (David around 25) Marries Michal because of success in war

Around 1000 B.C., Jonathan warns David of Saul s pursuit of him (Michal helps David flee) David and Jonathan covenant together (1 S 20) David flees to NOB helped by Ahimelech the priest whom Saul later kills plus 85 of Eli s relatives David flees to Achish and feigns madness (Doeg) David hides in the Cave at Adullam joined by 30 mighty men fights Philistines (asks for water) David takes parents to Moab for safety Doeg kills 85 priests, fulfilling prophesy of Samuel s that Eli s family will be cut off from priesthood David pursued by Saul; hides in En Gedi (cuts coat)

The FAILED Kingdom of Saul A man who was the people s choice A man of the flesh A man who cared about pleasing the people more than pleasing the LORD A man who overstepped boundaries and usurped priestly authority A man who could not control his jealousy and chased down the LORD S ANOINTED

The FLOURISHING Kingdom of David A man after God s own heart prayer and praise and faithful in small things! A man whose own father didn t see him as an option, but who was God s Warrior King A man whose sin was forgiven and covered (many dysfunctions in his family!!) A man whose plan for God was good but not God s A man who was humbled by God s blessing of Covenant and responds with thanksgiving A man whose son Solomon is chosen by God s grace, to rule as the King of Peace

The DAVIDIC Covenant 2 Sam. 7 DYANSTY a row of sons to rule the Kingdom of Judah/Israel THRONE a seat of AUTHORITY from which his son will rule the nation KINGDOM a dominion over the NATION in Israel from Jerusalem which will ultimately become an EVERLASTING KINGDOM ruled by Jesus, the CHRIST, the Son of DAVID

David s LEGACY And when God removed him (Saul), he raised up David to be their king of whom he testified and said, I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do my will. For David, after he had served the purpose of God, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption from Stephen s sermon in Acts 13:22, 36
