Loving God! Loving People! Loving Life! Message Notes No Ordinary Family Part Two Life Church Smyrna Sunday, November 12, 2017 10:30am Pastor Christian Salzillo Matthew 5:8 NIV Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Proverbs 3:33 NIV The Lord s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous. Our goal here is to cultivate a heart of purity so that we will see God through his presence and through his power in our homes and in our families. Matthew 4:13-16 NIV Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah: Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. 1. How do we attain a pure heart? a. We devote ourselves to God. Psalms 24:3-4 Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. b. We put our trust in the Lord. Psalms 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. c. We seek forgiveness of our sins. Psalms 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. d. We recognize that God alone can change a heart! Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 2. How do we create a culture in the home where we see God? a. We get our own hearts right Joel 2:12-14 Even now, declares the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning. Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave behind a blessing James 4:8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. b. We parent our children out of a pure heart Proverbs 22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. c. We continually guard our hearts (and our homes) Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. 1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
