Chili Cook-Off Thank You! Thank you to all who attended and participated in the Chili Cook-Off last Sunday. There were several delicious pots of chili and all a little different! The prize for the OWW..OWW.OWW Hottest chili went to Richard Millspaugh. The prize for the MMM MMM MMM Best chili went to Erik Myrold. Congratulations to both winners! Also, about $700 was raised through the Chili Cook-Off and other donations to be added to our camp scholarship fund. Thank you! This will enable more children and youth to be able to go to a United Methodist camp this summer. If you didn t get a chance, but still want to donate, you can make a check out to Wesley UMC and write camp as a memo on your check. Donations are welcome anytime! Camp Registration When you are registering your child or youth for camp, be sure to enter the code 240161CA so that it will show that Wesley UMC will pay for one half of the early bird camp fee. Remember that the Early Bird registration deadline is April 30. All the camping information you ll need is on the Dakotas UMC camping website at dakcamps.org or pick up a brochure on the table in the lobby. Please call the church office if you have any questions. If additional financial assistance is needed, please talk to Pastor Howie or Judy Christy. On Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm, beginning April 12, we invite you to join us for a new video/study series, Half Truths by Rev. Adam Hamilton of United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. The following describes the book: They are simple phrases. They sound Christian like something you might find in the Bible. We ve all heard these words. Maybe we ve said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways. Join Adam Hamilton in searching for the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichés to the message and ministry of Jesus. Books can be ordered through Cokesbury or Amazon. Kindle version is also available. Native American Ministries Sunday This Sunday, April 10, is designated by the United Methodist Church as Native American Ministries Sunday, one of the six special Sundays during the year on which a special offering is taken. The purpose of this designation is to recognize the contributions of Native Americans to society and to help fund Native American ministries, urban initiatives and seminary scholarships. A special envelope is included in today s bulletin to support this offering.
Discussion on UMC General Conference Next month, May 10-20, the United Methodist Church will hold its quadrennial General Conference in Portland, Oregon. As the primary legislative body it is the only entity with the authority to speak on behalf of the entire United Methodist Church. During the meeting of the General Conference a variety of issues facing the denomination will be discussed and voted on by a body of delegates that consists of clergy and laity. Two lay and two clergy persons will be attending as representatives of our Dakota s Conference. On Sunday, April 24, 2016, Jodi Cataldo, one of those lay delegates, will be visiting Wesley and will be holding a discussion session at 10:00 a.m. during the Sunday School time in the dining hall. This is a great opportunity for the people of Wesley to become acquainted with the issues that will be discussed at General Conference and to hear from one of our delegates. In order to be well prepared for our discussion on the 24 th, an informational session will be on Sunday, April 17, at 10:00 a.m., in the dining hall; basic information about the structure of the United Methodist Church, the potential topics for General Conference, and the role of General Conference will be provided. Please plan to attend both sessions. Spring is here! That means the flower beds will need attention shortly. Helen DeMaster would greatly appreciate some assistance with the perennial bed. We also need a person or two who would be interested in working in and taking care of the front memorial garden area this spring and summer. This is the garden area located inside the circular drive at the south church entrance. Please contact Judy Christy at judy.gfwesley@midconetwork.com or at the church office (772-1869) if you are will willing to help. Thank you! Last month it was cosmic bowling followed by night games, movies, and a lock-in at the church. This month, they worked on a service project gathering items to help older children transition from foster care for PATH-ND. A lot of items were donated and/or collected enough to fill five (5) complete totes! Thank you to all who helped with this project. The Youth are now planning the early morning Easter service. In addition to hearing lessons, they will be going to laser tag at Northern Air this month, preparing May baskets for deliveries to the nursing homes in early May, and then cap the year off with a swim/pizza party at Splasher s Water Park at the Canad Inn. Dates for these year-end activities will be coming in a separate letter to the parents. If anyone has questions or concerns, please see Pastor Howie, Marge Myrold, or Kellie Burgess. First-quarter giving statements are available today. Please help us save on postage by picking yours up in the lobby.
