Igna an Spirituality Reimagining the Igna an Examen Your daily conversa on with God begins here St. Igna us of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits, called the Examen prayer the most important quarter of an hour of a person s day. When prac ced regularly, the Examen connects us to consciousness to the divine presence that is with us at all mes and in all things and clarifies our response to it. We find through it a path towards what our hearts most deeply desire, and develop our growing friendship in love with God. Get to know more about this prayer over 4 weeks in the Reimaging the Examen small group. Whether you know the Examen prayer or are new to it, the Igna an Spirituality team will bring you to a full understanding. Small group members will be asked to pray the Examen twice daily, to journal their experience and to a end the weekly faith-sharing session. The daily me commitment is 45-60 minutes. Sundays, August 6 th 27 th from 10:00-11:15am Igna us Center Sign up here: h p://bit.ly/2ua3eov or on our website There is no fee to par cipate, but in order to maintain the small group se ng, space is limited. Ques ons? Contact: Allain Andry at aandry@robinsonbradshaw.com or Suzie Shermer at Suzie.Shermer@gmail.com Reviews from past par cipants:...the Examen is a very specific, realis c, grounded tool everybody can use. The Reimagining the Examen retreat is a prac cal experience of God's love & hope through prayer....made me more aware and in the moment....this was a nice, though ul way of focusing our strengths and making us more aware of God s presence. It s all good Thank you for offering this class. 5

Ignatian Spirituality and You Coal into Diamonds A spectacularly unremarkable man walks hal ngly onto the stage during a TV talent show. He is visibly apologe c for taking up space on the planet. His head falls slightly to one side as if in a permanent state of deference. His nervous smile reveals a gap created by crooked front teeth, and his arms hang awkward at his sides, as though they didn t quite belong to him. His whole appearance excludes a total lack of self confidence. With eyes shyly reluctant to meet the camera, he hesitantly shares with the na on that he is a cell phone salesman from Cardiff, but his en re demeanor gives off a different message: I m nobody really, and I don t know what I m doing here. A panel of three judges await him. One of them in par cular has a reputa on for ruthless cri cism and is apparently in the mood to live up to it. They roll their eyes in an cipa- on of what they might be about to sit through and I too find myself cringing in dread. flashback shows him walking along the shore of his na ve South Wales, revealing that his secret dream has always been to spend his life doing what he feels he was born to do. The judges also have dreams, it appears. One describes Paul as a li le lump of coal who has become a diamond. Another shares the vision they d all had at the start of the show: that some ordinary unassuming person, doing a very ordinary job and quite unaware of his extraordinary gi ing, might truly discover who he was and become a gi to the world. Some mes God s Dream takes eons of me to emerge out of eternity, and some mes it happens overnight, It s a Dream about what we are born to do and who we are born to be, an invita on to each of us to become who we are, a unique human fully alive, a sha of the glory of God. Paul himself sums it up: I have always felt insignificant, but now I know I am somebody. I am Paul Po s. Then the man opens his mouth, and the most sublime voice you can imagine pours forth, as though Pavaro himself had come back to remind us that nothing never dies. But this is not Pavaro. It is Paul Po s from Cardiff. A stunned silence falls upon the whole scene. Broken only by the erup- on of tumultuous applause. I feel the hairs rising in the nape of my neck. The cameras zoom in on the judges faces. One has tears in her eyes. All spellbound. Paul sweeps the board and becomes a na onal hero overnight. A filmed Who am I? Who are you? When can we answer that ques on with both confidence and humility, then we are echoing back something of the very being of God who says, I am who I am. -Margaret Silf Compass Points Mee ng God everyday at Every Turn St Peter Hiking Group Next Hike: Saturday, August 5 t Lost Cove Wilderness, Wilson Creek, access off the Blue Ridge Parkway, distance 7 + miles, moderate strenuous, 1 st. mile swimming holes.
