Dear Friends, Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 12, 2017 Still on the mountain, the Sermon continues with the Law part of his discourse, You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, and then Jesus basically turns it all around and flips it upside down and tells them that it s not just about the NOT doing the bad things; but he goes further and cautions them against what might be in their hearts that would lead one to doing the bad things. So, don t kill, but, call out the spirit in your heart that would lead one to want to kill another person. See the difference? The Sermon on the Mount Discourse calls us to change our minds and our hearts and our spirits and our attitudes AS we put on Christ and bear attitudes of being that are of Christ! Now can you understand the fulfill the Law part? So, friends, fulfill the Law and bear the Spirit of Christ in word and deed this week! As many of you know, Deacon Candidate Keith Walcutt has been immersing himself into parish life here at St. Mary s as he continues with his studies for Ordination to the Deaconate. Part of that preparation includes his practice of HOW TO assist at Mass as a Deacon. This week, Thursday, February 16 th, Deacon Candidate Keith will practice his skills at a PRACTICE MASS with me at 7:15pm. All are most welcome to come and pray and to encourage Deacon Candidate Keith as he will soon take on this awesome responsibility of Deacon in the Diocese of Cleveland. Again, all are welcome to join us and pray and dialogue with him AFTER the practice Mass is over Thursday, February 16 th at 7:15pm in Church. THIS WEEKEND February 11 th & 12 Th is the Catholic Charities Diocese of Cleveland 2017 Annual Appeal at all the Masses. Catholic Charities Foundation has prepared a video to be shown at Mass and then we have been instructed to take up the In-Pew Appeal following the video. Please be as attentive as you are able and generous in your ability to meet the needs of the less fortunate in our Diocese. Thanks! So many thanks for your continued generosity in the Sunday collection! We are blessed by each one of you! Peace! Fr. John

Mother Teresa We come across people who are only known by their address number. Do we really realize that such people exist? Perhaps across the street. It might be a blind person who would be happy if we volunteered to read the newspaper. It might even be someone rich who has no one to visit. The rich person has a lot of things, but he is smothered by them. He lacks human contact and that is what that person needs. This week will be simple Quiet Prayer. When we come to the quiet place within each of us, the Lord enters our lives in an intimate way. We are open to all that He would reveal to us Join us see if this type of prayer is helpful for you. Family Perspectives God wants to bless our families. Are we too busy and stressed to notice and accept these blessings? God is present, waiting to meet and bless us in our families, but needs our time and attention. We need to take time together as families to have fun, to talk, to work together, to eat and pray. Schedule some family times in the calendar and see Jesus in the transfiguration of your family members and relationships. Saturday, February 18 3:00pm - Church Confessions 2017 Catholic Charities Rosary - Change in Schedule Effective immediately the schedule for Rosary has changed. We will no longer have Rosary on Friday s. We will continue to gather in the Chapel Monday - Thursday at 9:30am for the Rosary. Taize Prayer Service Saint Ignatius High School offers a Taize Prayer Service each month. The next one will be on Sunday evening, February 12th at 7:30pm in the St. Mary of the Assumption Chapel on the Saint Ignatius High School Campus (West 30th & Lorain, Cleveland). The 45 minute service, which features music, silence, candlelight, and Scripture, is a simple yet powerful experience of Christian prayer for young and old alike. Join us for a contemplative experience that has inspired the faithful all over the world. All are welcome. The 2017 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal is underway with an in-pew commitment process taking place this weekend. This is not a special collection; rather, the Catholic Charities Annual Appeal represents the chance for all Catholics to make a significant pledge, payable in installments, to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland in order to support its mission of a society that stands united in its support of the least among us. Many parishioners have received a letter from Bishop Thomas requesting their support. If you have not received this letter, please respond to the in-pew commitment process today! If you have received the mailing, please respond to it. There is a box on the in-pew envelope to indicate that you have responded by mail. You did it for Me. Your support of the 2017 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal helps us to carry out the mission that Jesus entrusted to us: I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me. Please consider a generous gift that will change the lives of the 400,000 who are served each year in Northeast Ohio. Please pray for the success of the appeal, which provides for essential programs and services in need throughout all eight countries of the Diocese of Cleveland. We invite you to view the stories of inspiration and more information at: www.catholiccommunity.org/2017appeal

Within the long version of the reading, he talks about the nature of marriage. Coincidentally (or maybe not!), this week is National Marriage Week in the United States! We celebrate the union of husband and wife as a natural institution and Catholic Sacrament. This week of celebration usually includes St. Valentine s Feast Day, which is February 14th. While not much is known about the history of this martyr, his holy life has him attributed as the saint of love, young people, and happy marriages. For those who are married, have a happy Marriage Week! Choir Rehearsal Schedules: Traditional Choir and Contemporary ensemble meets to rehearse on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. Youth Choir also rehearses on Tuesdays at 6.pm. If you are interested in participating in any of these choirs, cantoring, or playing an instrument during mass, please call or see me after mass up in the loft. Call the music ministry office for more information: 440.243.3877 ext 27. Each night kicks off with a social, which includes complementary appetizers and a cash bar, followed by a speaker. Admission is only $5.00. Our next speaker on Wednesday February 15th, will be Fr. Marek Visnovsky, pastor of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, who will be speaking to us about Eastern Christian Iconography and our spiritual goal of becoming like Jesus so as to point others to Jesus, in his talk entitled, Iconography and the Divine Invitation to be Living Icons of Christ. Theology on Tap is a great way for young adults to go deeper in their faith and connect with other young Catholics in the area. For more information, please contact Fr.
