Your registration is important; it helps us to know those we serve. It is also necessary if you wish to be certified as an active member to be a baptismal or confirmation sponsor. Stewardship: Christians share their talents, time and treasure to carry on the work of the Church. Your offerings are essential to St. Ignatius Church, for us to maintain our staffing, programs and buildings. Cemetery: There are grave sites available for parishioners in the new section at the base of the hill. Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Washington administers the sale of lots and burial. Because we do not have an adequate endowment, the costs of maintenance come from general parish funds. The phone number for Catholic Cemeteries is 301-932-1766. Reconciliation: Saturdays 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., or by appointment. Matrimony: Registered parishioners planning to be married at St. Ignatius must contact the pastor at least six months before the wedding. Baptism: Parents planning to have their child baptized attend baptism classes which are offered the first Saturday of February, April, June, August, October and December. Please email or call the Religious Education office to register for the class. Consider doing so, before your child is born. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: If you would like to learn about becoming a Catholic, please contact the Religious Education Office. Classes begin at the end of the summer.

Fourth Sunday of Easter May 7, 2017 Mass Intentions Saturday, May 6 5:00 p.m. Special Intention Sunday, May 7 9:00 a.m. Thomas F. Moore Sunday, May 7 11:00 a.m. Theresa and Julian Dyer+ I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly. The Beginning Communion Pope Pius X lowered the age for the reception of Holy Communion to age seven to encourage a life-long habit of communion with the Lord. He clearly recognized that a child of that age would have only a limited understanding of doctrine. If one could distinguish between the Bread of the Eucharist and ordinary, material bread he may receive Holy Communion with a devotion becoming his years. A full knowledge of Christian doctrine is not necessary for this first little step. Afterwards, however, the child will be obliged to learn gradually the entire Catechism according to his ability. (Pius X QUAM SINGULARI) With the emphasis on key moments in a child s life such as First Communion and Confirmation, it is sometimes hard to realize that being a Catholic Christian is not just taking part in a few rites of passage. It is a life-long commitment to grow in understanding, faith, hope and love. Saint Pius X sought in children and adults to begin a life of good habits and devotion. For the first communicants today may involve cake and gifts, but tomorrow and beyond we should encourage them in regular communion, prayer and concern for those around them. Congratulations to those students who received Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament this Sunday: Rylan Kae Bastain, Mickey Nelson Benjamin, Jonathan Bernard Compton, Julianna Marie Conte, Olivia Gracie Goldsmith, J Leya Eileen Gomes, Isabelle Marie Gray, Abigail Elizabeth Higdon, Riley Edward Johnson, Tristan Joseph-Robillard Johnson, Grayson Louise Lyon, Mary Catherine MacMillan, Jackson Christopher Romine, Edward Frank Sible III, Scott Clayborne Andrew Stuart, Brianna Kaelyn Tabor, and Trevor Lee Thompson. HELP NEEDED-We need desserts for the Meals of Hope mobile meal truck for THIS WED, May 10 Can make something, wrap it by serving individually, and drop it by the parish hall by noon on Wed., May 10? If you can help out this important ministry of the parish, please sign up in the back of the church. Call Brenda in the parish office if you have questions.

35 th Annual Rosary Pilgrimage and Our Lady of Fatima In 1917, in the midst of the brutality of World War I, three young children in Portugal, Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta reported appearances of an angel who instructed them on prayer. On May 13, that same year, they reported a vision of a luminous lady. At the time, that day was the feast of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament; but they came to know the lady as Our Lady of the Rosary. Because of the devotions arising from the apparition, we have come to call her Our Lady of Fatima. Every year on the second weekend in May, we have a Rosary pilgrimage here at Chapel Point. This year, our 35 th Annual Pilgrimage falls on the 100 th Anniversary of the first apparition at Fatima. As always, we will have Mass in the Church at 11:00 a.m. next Saturday, followed by a procession across the road to the Shrine of Our Lady, with a May crowning by two of our First Communion children, followed by the living Rosary. During the pilgrimage Mass and throughout the weekend, our statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be in the Church, temporarily replacing the statue of Our Lady of Grace. Please join us in honoring the Mother of God on this special Feast. The Gift Shop May is the month of Mary, the gift shop has rosaries, medals, garden statuary and indoor statues dedicated to Our Blessed Mother. The door prize will be a commemoration of Our Lady of Fatima s appearance to the children 100 years ago. Only a visit, name and phone number required to be in the drawing May 28 th. No purchase necessary. The April door prize was won by Mary Potter. Our next distribution day is Saturday, May 20; with stocking of the shelves on Wed., May 17. If you can help with either day, please contact Dianne Lyon at d.e.lyon@comcast.net.
