Faith Formation Schedule Sunday Classes Tuesday Classes March 4, 11, 18, & 25 March 6, 13, 20, & 27 Saturday, March 10 - Spaghetti-okie Family Night Sunday, March 11-7th Grade Faith Night Thursday, March 15 - Confirmation Class Sunday, March 25-8th Grade Faith Night During Lent, we are called to pray, fast and give alms, so that we may prepare our hearts to receive full the joy of Easter. Operation Rice Bowl is a great way to work on all three of those parts of Lent! If you or your family decide that a good thing to fast from would be those stops at McDonald's and those quick dinners before everyone scatters to their own corners of the house, you could use that to benefit others too. The fasting (or refraining from) that McD's run will save you some money and that money could be put into the Operation Rice Bowl box. Now of course you still need to eat, but maybe instead of a quick meal, everyone helps to make dinner. When you sit down to eat, you could pray together to thank God and to pray for those who are in need. If you did that once a week for the 6 weeks of Lent, just think of how much different your Lent will be! You will grow closer as a family, pray together, and help others ($20 per meal for a family x 6 weeks = $120). The money raised through Operation Rice Bowl will go to feed the hungry in the US and around the world. Now that is a life changing Lent! 656 Page 3

Are you feeling the rhythm of our worship this lent? For the third week in a row I am shifting from prelude song to a refrain of one of the songs sung during mass. (See note below) "Take Up Our Cross" can only be found in the bulletin. It was composed in 2008 by Curtis Stephan (Mass of Renewal) and Sarah Heart (You Alone); two of the most prolific contemporary church music composers of the past 15 years. We will sing the entire song at the offertory today. I welcome your comments. Speaking of comments. For the first two weeks of Lent we sang Fr. Ricky Manalo and Bob Hurd s God of Mercy. I catch the melody running through my head even after I ve left church. What about you? Today s communion song is a song we sang last lent; Look Beyond (#326). I love the message of the refrain: Look beyond the bread you eat; see your Savior and your Lord. Look beyond the cup you drink; see his love poured out as blood. Your singing of the Kyrie and the Lord Have Mercy at the intercessions are inspiring. Blessed to be at St. Mary s, Note: At the 12 noon we will sing Enter the Journey (#657) prior to mass as our catechumens prepare to receive the sacraments of baptism, first communion and confirmation at the Easter Vigil. 656 Page 5
