Transcription:

Welcome in the name of Jesus Christ! We thank God that you have joined us this morning for worship. If you are visiting with us, we thank God you are here and pray our worship together will be a mutual blessing. If you are looking for a church home, we hope Abiding Savior can meet your needs. Please introduce yourself to one of the Pastors. We ask both members and visitors to kindly fill out attendance cards and pass them to the center aisle. The ushers will gather them during the Sermon Hymn which follows the Children s Message. Feel free to add a prayer request for the Pastor to include in the congregational prayer. We love children here at Abiding Savior. Parents are encouraged to sit in the front pews so that young children can see what is happening during worship. If you should want to make use of our cry room or nursery, please ask one of our ushers for directions. Ministers Rev. Dr. Thomas Rogers... Senior Pastor Rev. Glenn Lucas... Associate Pastor Rev. INVOCATION Pastor: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen! PSALM 70 70 Pastor: Make haste, O God, to deliver me! O LORD, make haste to help me! Let them be put to shame and confusion who seek my life! Let them be turned back and brought to dishonor who desire my hurt! Pastor: Let them turn back because of their shame who say, Aha, Aha! May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you! May those who love your salvation say evermore, God is great! Pastor: But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, do not delay! Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Worshippers are invited to kneel for the Confession and Absolution. Those who desire not to kneel may sit or stand. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Pastor: Let us confess our sins to God, our heavenly Father. Merciful Father, we bring before You our confession, imploring Your mercy for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Savior. We are sinful from birth and daily add to that burden. Our actions have been thoughtless and have resulted in evil. Our words have been hurtful, and we have not always honored Your name in our speaking. We have left undone many things that t could have brought glory and praise to You. O Lord, grant us Your grace and the blessing of forgiveness. By the renewing work of the Holy Spirit, lead us to amend our sinful lives, that we may grow daily in righteousness and be bringers of peace in our time. Pastor: Because of the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus, God promises full and free forgiveness. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, I forgive you all of your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. As you believe, so may it be. Amen. 3

HYMN OF PRAISE Rejoice, Rejoice, Believers Text: Laurentius Laurenti, 1660-1722; tr. Sarah B. Findlater, 1823-1907, alt. Tune: Swedish; setting: Henry V. Gerike, b. 1948 LSB 515 Used by Permission. LSBHymnLicense.net #100012189 SALUTATION AND COLLECT Pastor: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Pastor: Let us pray. Lord God, heavenly Father, send forth Your Son to lead home His Bride, the Church, that with all the company of the redeemed we may finally enter into His eternal wedding feast; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. OLD TESTAMENT READING AMOS 5:18-24 Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD! Why would you have the day of the LORD? It is darkness, and not light, as if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him, or went into the house and leaned his hand against the wall, and a serpent bit him. Is not the day of the LORD darkness, and not light, and gloom with no brightness in it? I hate, I despise your feasts, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies. 4

Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; and the peace offerings of your fattened animals, I will not look upon them. Take away from me the noise of your songs; to the melody of your harps I will not listen. But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Lector: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. EPISTLE READING 1 SSALONIANS 4:13-18 18 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words. Lector: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. We stand for the Holy Gospel: HOLY GOSPEL MATW 25:1-13 13 Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, chapter twenty-five. READING OF HOLY GOSPEL Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 5

But at midnight there was a cry, Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him. Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out. But the wise answered, saying, Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves. And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, Lord, lord, open to us. But he answered, Truly, I say to you, I do not know you. Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord! KIDS OF KINGDOM 8:00 a.m. If Anybody Asks You Who I Am CHILDREN HILDREN S MESSAGE Prayer and member/guest cards will be collected during the singing of the following hymn: SERMON HYMN Rise, My Soul, to Watch and Pray LSB 663 Used by Permission. SERMON REV EV. TOM ROGERS APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. GARING OF OUR TIS AND OFFERINGS God doesn t need our money, but in His grace He gives us the privilege to be stewards of everything He has entrusted to our care. We can do more together than separately. As one body in Christ, our congregation has agreed to offer our first fruits to support ministries and missions that enable us to communicate Christ s love to everyone, everywhere; and our love for Him. Your sacrificial gift enables this holy work. MUSICAL OFFERING We Give Thee But Thine Own We give Thee but Thine own, Whate er the gift may be; All that we have is Thine alone, A trust, O Lord, from Thee. May we Thy bounties thus As stewards true receive And gladly, as Thou blessest us, To Thee our firstfruits give! And we believe Thy Word, Though dim our faith may be: Whate er for Thine we do, O Lord, We do it unto Thee. Text: William W. How, 1823-97 Tune: William H. Monk, 1823-89 LSB 781 Used by Permission. LSBHymnLicense.net #100012189 A TRIBUTE TO OUR VETERANS PRAYERS Pastor: Let us pray for the whole people of God, and for all people according to their needs. After each petition: Pastor: Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer. Pastor: Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend ourselves and all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. 7

Pastor: We pray together, Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen. BENEDICTION Pastor: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace. Amen! CLOSING HYMN Lord, Dismiss Us with Your Blessing Text: attr. John Fawcett, 1740-1817, sts. 1-2, alt.; Godfrey Thring, 1823-1903, st. 3,alt.
