4H Teaching The Holy Spirit Practical Living Ministry Dr. Kenneth W. Jones

Over the Next Few Months We Will Discuss Principles of Healing Holy Spirit Principles of Holiness & Honor Hermeneutics

We Were Created To: Trust God Proverbs 3:5,6 Psalms 37:3 Obey His Word Ecclesiastes 12;13 Prosper & Be in Health 3 rd John 1:2

We Were Not Created To: Worry & Be Anxious Matthew 6:34; Phil 4:6-8 Be Consumed With Cares 1 Peter 5:7 Trust in Man Psalms 118:8; Psalms 146:3 The reason why our body responds negatively when we do these things is because we were not made for sustained worry, anxiety, being consumed with cares, and depending upon man.

Matthew 6: 25-34: Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Take No Thought 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Take No Thought Take No Thought That is, no anxiety Anxiety is a choice; We choose to trust in Him The Gentiles seek after these things: The Chief things that the Gentiles seek is food & clothing, self satisfaction, promotion, & money Example: Retirement is a Western culture mindset The Believer seeks first His kingdom; seeks first to be righteous,

Remember Anxiety Cares Worries Take No Thought That is, no anxiety Believers Seek After God Who Holds Tomorrow in His Hand The Gentiles seek after these things Matthew 6:32

The Choice is Yours You Can Be the Victim Volitionally Surrender

You Can Be the Victor

Sufficient Enough For the Day The morrow shall take thought - The morrow will have anxieties and cares of its own, but God will also bring the proper provision for those cares. Though you will have needs, yet God will provide for them as they occur. Do not, therefore, increase the cares of today by borrowing trouble from the past & future We borrow from the past and future The Past and Future can be overwhelming to deal with. Many are so caught up in one s past that they can t even enjoy the present God wants us to trust Him in the present and make good decisions and follow His leading in the present

Last Week Experiences Generational Issues Setbacks/Mistakes Relationships Robs from your present and destroys your future That s where we should be Making decisions Taking Appropriate Actions Trusting God/ Peace of God Casting Cares Submission to God Impacted by borrowing from your past & future Media Fears Uncertainty Anxiety over past impacting future

American teenagers are now the most stressed-out age group in the U.S., according to APA s 2013 Stress In America survey. Only 3% of American Teens Actually Read the Bible To much secular influences that our youth have been subjected to via the public schools, the media and the entertainment industry.

Worry To choke or to strangle Mark 4:19 - And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. Too Many Christians spend most of their lives down in the weeds. We choke and are hindered spiritually when we find ourselves being caught up in securing things of the world Worry chokes the joy, peace, and happiness out of our lives Antidote TRUST In God

Worry Fear Anxiety Antidote Worry To choke or to strangle TRUST to be troubled with cares makes us unproductive and unfruitful Worry chokes the joy, peace, and happiness out of our lives Worry shifts thoughts to the future and that which has not yet happened Worry is the opposite of trusting God (Matthew 6:30) Worry shifts your thoughts in the wrong direction Worrying is like driving a car with one foot on the accelerator and the other foot on the brake. Mark 4:19 - And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. WEEDS

Fear Feeling that I don t have the resources to take care of what I see coming what I have to take care of in the present or future To be afraid of : expect with alarm (fear the worst) Most Fears are Irrational Not based upon truth or fact, but perception or irrational beliefs There is also a spirit of fear that overcomes us, and to overcome it we need to trust in and love God completely.

Fear In Psalm 56:11 the psalmist writes, In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The key to overcoming fear, then, is total and complete trust in God

Anxiety To divide the mined a dividing care Dividing attention between past and future Anxiety Creates Double-mindedness James 1:8 - [For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides].

Side Effects of Worry, Anxiety & Fear Mentally Physically Spiritually Irritability High Blood Pressure Complacency Depression Insomnia Stunted Spiritual Growth Passive Aggressiveness Fatigue Open to Spiritual Oppression Overwork Over-Eating Double-mindedness Panic Attacks Tightness of Neck Hindered prayer life/worship Weakened Immune System Apathy

Recognize, Repent, Redeem Realize that there are some things you cannot control Trusting God in the Present With the things you can control, submit them unto God, make good decisions from a transformed mindset, and live in obedience and faith to God Things You Cannot Control Health Family Future Environmental What You Can Do Make best possible choices in the present. Trusting God for health and in His promises There s No Perfect Family. Don t get too prideful regarding your family method. The Moral Climate of our Society is failing. The Bible says that things will get worse before Jesus comes.

God s Word Can Relieve Anxiety Proverbs 12:25 - Anxiety in a man s heart weighs it down, but an encouraging word makes it glad. One translations says causes depression We must read, trust, apply God s Word to every circumstance and situation Avoid the Ifs of Worry If I can just make up a plan! If I can just make it through next week! We are always trying to find a plan, the next prescription, the next process

What Are You Afraid Of? Matthew 8:23-26: And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. 24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. 25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. 26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. Jesus knew that they were fearful; But at times he wants us to truly identify, confess, and believe for our need That is how God created us

Trusting in the Lord Psalms 112: 7 They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the LORD to care for them. Bring it On Devil! I Trust in the Word of God Realize Two Things: While I can impact it, I can t always change things in my future, but God has a plan for my life that is good, prosperous and complete Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. I Will Always Face Uncertainty But Jesus is in this boat with me and I will not perish. I trust in the One who can calm the storms Joshua 1:5: There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
