Matthew 6:33; 1 John 2:6; 2 Chronicles 16:9 DOCTRINES THAT TEACH UNAMBIGUOUSLY A POST TRIBULATION RAPTURE by John M. Stephenson Biblical Worldview Ministries biblicalworldviewministries.com June 27, 2013 PURPOSE This document has the purpose to show that the Bible teaches unambiguously that the Rapture occurs after the Tribulation so the Church will urgently prepare her people so they will not get caught blind sided when the Tribulation suddenly comes. We are here to gain a maximum maturity in Christ for a maximum relationship with God in eternity. God is using the Tribulation as part of a special sequence by which He is now using to terminate history. Both Jewish and Gentile believers are in the Church, having believed the Gospel, and are to pursue gaining this maximum maturity. Apart from gaining this maturity for a maximum relationship with God, for now and especially in eternity, there is nothing. DISCUSSION OF MOST HELD PROPHETIC VIEWS The majority of prophecy endtimes beliefs are either a Pre-Tribulation Rapture View or a Post- Tribulation Rapture View. The Pre-tribulation Rapture View is based on the view that God will return national Israel to her land under His leadership in an all Jewish endtimes Tribulation. This requires the Rapture of the Gentile Church to occur before the Tribulation. The Post-Tribulation View (my view) is based on that God is through with National Israel as a covenant nation forever as of the Cross and all believers, both Jews and Gentiles, are now part of the Church, and are here to become maximumly mature in Christ-likeness for eternity for an in-depth walk and relationship with God. One cannot be a believer in the Gospel without being part of the church and body of Christ. So both Jewish and Gentile believers will go through the Tribulation, that God is using to terminate history. The Pre-tribulation Rapture view denies this, and thus holders of the view cannot rightly believe that the main reason we are here is to gain maximum maturity in Christ-likeness. BIBLICAL DOCTRINES AND SITUATION CONCERNING ISRAEL We now present doctrinal discussion that teaches unambiguously that God was through with National Israel as of the Cross. God s most important great use of Israel was completed then. There will be no future returns of national Israel under God. But there has been under Satan in May 1948. God returns Israel only in repentance and Israel is now in her land in complete apostasy with no interest in God, the Bible, Christ, or salvation. In the OT times, Israel went through a special relationship sequence with God several times. God was married to Israel, as a Covenant Nation. God used Israel greatly (her prime purposes) to bring the Christ with His Crucifixion for salvation, commandments that show we sin and thus, need a Savior, and to know the relationship sequence that God is using now again (with the US Page 1 of 7

now as His favorite nation) for terminating Revelation s endtimes. The sequence is, in overview, as follows: (1) obeying God, Israel received great blessing; (2) disobeying God, she received watchmen warnings; (3) continuing to disobey God, God brought a foreign military against her and placed her under divine discipline for a number of years under the rule of a world empire such as Medo-Persia, Greece, Babylon, and Rome, taking many of Israel out of her land into the land of the world empire; (4) then in repentance God, at the completion of the divine discipline period, would return self government to Israel and return Israelites to Israel s land in repentance; and (5) then God would destroy the world empire. Israel, in her history, was split into the Northern Kingdom of Israel and the Southern Kingdom of Judah. In one of her sequences, the Northern Kingdom would not return to God in repentance. 1 As a result, God gave her a writ of divorce which terminated the marriage to God and her as a covenant nation forever. W hen the Southern Kingdom of Judah had the Romans crucify Christ, when He died, this dissolved (terminated) the marriage to the Southern Kingdom and terminated her as a covenant nation to God forever. So as the Cross, God will never restore Israel as a special nation or in a period that is primarily Jewish. This includes in the endtimes Tribulation. The above is verified by the Cross breaking down the barrier of the dividing wall between Israel and the Gentiles. Where all believers, both Jews and Gentiles, are now all one in Christ and part 2 of His Church. Christ is now married to the Church and cannot have two wives at the same time. He never divorces the Church and thus, will never marry Israel ever again. The Church is now the sanctuary of God and is to be a living sacrifice. So there will be no future physical temples or animal sacrifices. God now, after the Cross, has no purpose for Israel to bring the salvation process. Thus, Israel as a special nation to God is gone forever as of the Cross. Her great purpose under God has been completed. So there cannot be any future exclusive Jewish periods such as the endtimes Tribulation. God gave a covenant to Israel that her people could live in their land forever. The Bible teaches that all of God s promises to Israel concerning the land were at one time fulfilled (Joshua 21:43, 45; Nehemiah 9:7-8, 24; Ezekiel 33:24). Israel at one time possessed and lived in all the land that God promised her. Thus, there need not be a future return of Israel to her land under God after the Cross. Israel was promised the land as an everlasting covenant. But to keep the covenant 1. WRIT OF DIVORCE: Jeremiah 3:8 "And I saw that for all the adulteries of faithless Israel, I had sent her away and given her a writ of divorce,... 2. JEWISH AND GENTILE BELIEVERS ARE ONE IN CHRIST: Ephesians 2:13-16: But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one, and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. Galatians 3:28 - There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Page 2 of 7

3 active, the Jews had to obey God. This was in a marriage relationship. Both northern and southern kingdoms were disobedient that resulted in the land covenant being terminated forever, as of the Cross. The termination of the land covenant is demonstrated by Israel being out of her land from AD 70 to May 1948 (When Satan brought her back into the land to have interpreters believe wrongly in a Pre-Tribulation Rapture.) However, many believe that the endtimes Tribulation will last 7 years and will be all Jewish by asserting that Daniel s all Jewish seventieth week is the endtimes Tribulation. Thus, they believe the Gentile Church will be raptured before the Tribulation begins (but this cannot be for Jewish believers are also in the Church). However, detailed studies show that Christ was crucified in the middle of the week and the Gospel did not go the Gentiles until the seventieth week was terminated. The duration of the seventieth week was completed at the time of the Cross. The seventieth week does not refer to the endtimes Tribulation. 4 th Daniel s 70 all Jewish week cannot be the endtimes Tribulation because Revelation teaches that a number of believers of a very large number from all nations so large that no one can count, 5 die in the Great Tribulation. Thus, the Tribulation is mostly Gentile, not exclusive Jewish that would be required for a Pre-Trib Rapture. And it is very unlikely (not believable) that this number 3. PROMISE OF THE LAND: God gave Israel the land in an everlasting covenant and possession (Isaiah 60:19-21). This required the Jews to obey God in order to stay in the land. By being disobedient to God, the Jews, themselves, broke the covenant and many Jews were taken out of Israel s land by the attack of world empire into the land of world empire (Leviticus 26:15; 44; Deuteronomy 31:16, 20; Jeremiah 11:10-11; Ezekiel 16:59; 18:18). But in repentance, God would reestablish the covenant and allow them to live back in the land, once again (Ezekiel 16:60). Then Israel would proceed to break the covenant again in the sequence presented in Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28. The Jews of the Northern Kingdom of Israel eventually would not come back to God from their disobedience, so God divorced the Northern Kingdom (Jeremiah 3:8). At the Cross, Jews of the Southern Kingdom of Judah broke the covenant again in a final arrangement by rejecting their Messiah forever. So when the Jews had Christ crucified by the Romans, this broke the covenant and destroyed the marriage to the Southern Kingdom when Christ died. God gave them (of the southern kingdom) a 40 year probation from AD 30 to AD70 to repent and come to their Messiah. But this did not happen. This continued rejection brought the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple by the Romans. This destruction signaled that National Israel as a covenant nation (both Northern and Southern Kingdoms) in God s Plan was gone forever. 4. DANIEL S SEVENTIETH WEEK: A detailed study of the seventieth week is found in my web site documents: The Seventy Weeks of Daniel Chapter Nine (Document on my web site under Prophecy) taken from Appendix B of my book: Watchman Warning; A Detailed Development and Analysis of the Seventy Weeks. 5. GENTILES (AND JEWS) DIE IN THE TRIBULATION: Revelation 7:9-16 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues (this wold include Israel), standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, "Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen." And one of the elders answered, saying to me, "These who are clothed in the white robes, who are they, and from where have they come?" And I said to him, "My lord, you know." And he said to me, "These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. "For this reason, they are before the throne of God; and they serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne shall spread His tabernacle over them. Page 3 of 7

of believers could be saved in only 7 years with no believers alive at its beginning to share the Gospel and the world empire not allowing the Gospel to be shared. The conclusion is that the endtimes Tribulation is all nations in characteristic and all believers after the Cross are one and part of Christ s Church. Israel in marriage to God and as a favored and covenant nation to God, is gone forever as of the Cross. So the Bible does not teach or give any foundation for a Pre-Tribulation Rapture. All believers in Christ are part of the Church - no exceptions. Both Jews and Gentiles, as believers, are here for the prime purpose to gain a maximum maturity in Christ-likeness so they can have a maximum walk and relationship with God in eternity. Apart from this, there is nothing in the eternal view. (Bringing Israel back into her land as a nation under God after the Cross has no divine purpose.) (The main purpose for both Jewish and Gentile believers is to become maximumly mature in Christ-likeness, not where one lives on the earth.) The Bible teaches the Church will go through the Tribulation for divine discipline as part of the endtimes special sequence for her falling away. The latter will be explained. ADDITIONAL DOCTRINES THAT, INDIVIDUALLY AND JOINTLY, TEACH UNAMBIGUOUSLY THE RAPTURE IS POST-TRIBULATIONAL: 6 The termination of history and the Rapture can only occur after all people who are to live, have lived, and have made formal and binding decisions to accept or deny the Gospel. The endtimes Tribulation is to complete this purpose. No one is born or saved after the Rapture. This is shown by the teachings: (1) the wheat (believers) cannot be separated from the tares (unbelievers) until AFTER all the tares are bundled for the fire in the endtimes Tribulation (Matthew 13:29-30); and (2) Christ sits on the right hand of God the Father until after all His enemies (unbelievers) formally become His footstool (Acts 2:34-35) by rejecting the Gospel and under His authority (being completed in the endtimes Tribulation). Both doctrinal teachings directly prevent a Rapture until after the endtimes Tribulation. The Rapture cannot take place until after all people who are to live, have lived, and have made formal binding decisions to believe or deny the Gospel. The endtimes sequence in overview is similar to the ones God used with OT Israel. The details are different. The endtimes sequence is discovered by comparing wording in Revelation with what happened to Old Testament Israel. It is indirectly taught. (This why few know about it.) Israel was God s most favored nation and in these endtimes, the United States is God s most favored 7 nation. The endtimes sequence is, in overview, as follows: (1) obeying God, the United States has received great blessing from God, even more than Israel; (2) disobeying God (the Church falls away as a cause that allows the country to fall away as a symptom), she is receiving watchmen warnings (especially signs); (3) continuing to disobey God, crossing His allowable threshold for disobedience, God will bring a foreign military against the Church and country and 6.SOURCE OF ADDITIONAL DOCTRINES THAT TEACH POST-TRIB RAPTURE: These doctrines are found in my we site report: Twenty Bible Doctrines Teach Unambiguously A Post Tribulation Rapture. 7. SEQUENCE DEVELOPMENT: The sequence is developed in detail in Chapter 5 and signs in 1 in my book: Watchman Warning. These chapters are on my web site. They can be read on line and downloaded free. Page 4 of 7

place them under divine discipline by world government in the endtimes Tribulation for a number of years; (4) then, at the completion of the divine discipline period (the Tribulation), God will bring His people (the Church) to Himself by the Rapture and give them reward for their works to live in heaven forever; and (5) then God will place all the unbelievers and Satan with His angels into the Lake of Fire. Then eternity begins. (There is much more detail.) The Bible uses the word saints for the Church (believers in Christ) throughout the N.T. epistles. In the latter part of the Tribulation in Revelation, the word, saints, is used, but not the word Church. This usage shows the Church is all through Revelation s endtime period including in the Mark-of-the-Beast Period. (Believing Jews would be part of the Church and would be included in the saints. In Christ, there is no division between the Jew and Gentile as believers, both compose the Church. The Pre-Tribulation Rapture view denies this.) There is a spiritual warfare between Christ and Satan throughout history. God records who the elect will be and the works they will do. Christ works to have the elect believe and accomplish God s work (not knowing in advance who they are or the works of God they will do). Not knowing also, Satan works to prevent some of either or both. He must prevent one in either category to win the warfare. He will not be able to. 8 9 The Rapture can occur only after the heavenly court, after the Tribulation, has determined (using the heavenly books, including the books of Life and of Works) that Christ has won the spiritual warfare and afterward has awarded Christ, according to the warfare rules, the legal authority to rapture the Church and bring the final judgements. The elect did actually believe and did actually accomplish all of God s work. This determination is made after the endtimes Tribulation and after all people who are to live, have lived and have 10 made formal decisions to accept or deny the gospel in life or by death. The time after the Tribulation when the winner of the warfare is determined shows the Rapture can 8. SPIRITUAL WARFARE STRATEGIES: See our web site document: Aspects and Strategies in the Spiritual Warfare Between Christ and Satan Used to Gain Spiritual Maturity in Christ-likeness and to Terminate History. Satan has many strategies by which he attempts to prevent the elect from being born or becoming the elect and to prevent the accomplishment of God s work. These include the dumbing down of our church teaching, using rock music, doing little evangelism, and promoting same sex marriages (so the elect might not be born). 9. SATAN DEFEATED HIMSELF (This is God s way): Satan defeated himself in the spiritual warfare when He worked to have Christ crucified, including having Judas betray Him. (Satan did not know the purposes of the Cross having only a sin nature and being without a divine nature.) All he had to do to win the warfare was to prevent (not cause) the Crucifixion and he would have won the warfare. No one then could (would) go to heaven or to the Lake of Fire, and Satan would have ruled over all angels and people forever. Having a sin nature, and not living by faith to gain revelation from God, He could not discern the O.T. Scriptures about Christ coming as the Messiah. He was more (or equally) enamored with himself than he was with God. Many people today are like this. (The latter can sometimes be our problem as Christians without our realization or desire especially if we use things, concepts, doctrines, or symbols from the world and ourselves, that are not in the Bible - using things not from God as a source.) 10. SPIRITUAL WARFARE: This warfare is developed and presented in detail in my web site document: God s Plan over History for Man to Become Mature in Christ Needed to Eternally Know and Relate to Our Perfect God in His Greatness. Page 5 of 7

only come after the Tribulation. The Greek New Testament uses the article (the) with the Revelation, the Appearance, and the Coming of Christ (all terms were only used in the singular) teaching (signifying) there is only one (that occurs after the endtimes Tribulation (see Matthew 24:29-31). There are not two that would be required or needed for a Pre-Tribulation Rapture. The Bible teaches only one resurrection of the Just, not two that would allow and be needed for a Pre-Tribulation Rapture. Matthew 24:29-31 "But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken, and then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. "And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other. The Church will miss the wrath of God. It comes with the Day of the Lord. This wrath of God and the Day of the Lord the Church will miss in the endtimes come in the bowl period that occurs after the Tribulation and after the Rapture during the latter time (or latter part) of Christ s Second Coming. The endtimes wrath of God is not equal to or in the endtimes Tribulation forcing a Pre-tribulation Rapture. (The Pre-Trib Rapture cannot be correct about wrath on believers, causing the church to miss the Tribulation because there will be believers in the Tribulation.) The Tribulation brings the discipline on the Church for her falling away. Revelation unfolds: The seven trumpets come out of the seventh seal, and the seven bowls come out of the seventh trumpet. The bowls come after the Rapture which occurs at the seventh trumpet with the coming of Christ. Revelation 3:10 - Pre-Tribulation Rapture interpreters teach that Revelation 3:10 implies the Church will be raptured before the hour of trial ( assumed to be the Tribulation without proving the hour of trial is equal to the Tribulation) - but the Bible does not teach this). Revelation 3:10 in the Greek can mean that believers go through the hour of trial but are kept from its effects (are preserved from harm and/or its effects by God). The Greek word or preposition ek used in this passage is used elsewhere in John 17:15 with this meaning (even though not an exact match). The believers are preserved in the Tribulation from the evil one because they have eternal security in Christ. God preserves them. The passage, according to the Greek, does not require removal of the Church before the period begins. It teaches just the opposite. An alternative legitimate translation or interpretation is: Revelation 3:10 - 'Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from [implied separated from but still in the presence of] the hour of testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell upon the earth. Also the Bible does not define directly whether or not the Hour of Trial is the endtimes Tribulation, whether or not it is correct. Interpreters, however, have made this assumption. However, referring to the endtimes Tribulation, the time of testing could very likely refer to the time when one either takes or denies the Gospel when taking or denying the mark-ofthe-beast. Those who are already Christians, God preserves. The Rapture, as Scripture states, occurs at the last trumpet which occurs after the endtimes Tribulation. This means the last trumpet is the seventh that occurs after the endtimes Tribulation or one after it. (1 Corinthians 15:51-52) This situation places the Rapture after the endtimes Tribulation. (The Jewish systems (in application) teaches that the Second Coming of Christ with Page 6 of 7

the Rapture will occur at some Feast of the Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah) in the fall of the year (autumn). This feast comes at the Jewish seventh month for a gathering of the saints and a time of coming judgment. See Leviticus 23:24. Unbelievers at that time, after the Rapture, would be cast into the Lake of Fire, judged commensurate with their works.) Christ said that He would raise all believers on the last day (John 6:39, 40, 54). (Martha also said she would be raised on the last day - John 11:24.) The last day is after the Tribulation. He raises the believers at the beginning of the last day and the unbelievers at the end of the last day. The last day is the period during Christ s Second Coming of the 1000 years (Revelation 20) which the Bible teaches can only be a day of time (2 Peter 3:8 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.). There is no 1000 year physical kingdom of God on earth after or during Christ s Second Coming. (The Kingdom of God is a relationship kingdom ruled from heaven, not a physical one ruled from on earth. It exists throughout the Church Period that includes the Tribulation.) There is no partiality with God. He would not rapture some saints before the Tribulation and then leaves others to be in the Tribulation under severe persecution (even if they were to become believers in the Tribulation). (The U.S. church has fallen away before the Tribulation begins. This falling away is the cause of the Tribulation coming.) (Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11) The Rapture occurs after the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. This fulfillment occurs in the endtimes Tribulation. There are both Gentile believers and unbelievers in the Tribulation. (Luke 21:24; Revelation 7:9-16 ) Many Interpreters say that the Bible infers the Coming of Christ can be imminent. Since it has not happened for 2000 years, it does not have to be imminent just before the Tribulation begins. It can happen (and be imminent) after the Tribulation at the time of Christ s Second Coming which teaching is in agreement with many other doctrines. Christ said (Luke 18:8): When I return will I find faith on the earth? The meaning of the Greek is that He will find very little. This means that when Christ comes, there will be very few Christians alive. This coming is (can only be) after the Tribulation. (The concept is that when God s people are delivered at the Rapture, there are few believers remaining on the earth alive to be delivered. Most will have been killed or died in the Tribulation. This was also true for the delivery of God s people at the time of Sodom and Gomorrah and at Noah s world-wide flood.) Page 7 of 7
