It was held at Crosspoints Church where many women attended. We were invited to have a table at the conference regarding our ministry and we were very thankful for this opportunity. We were able to share about our ministry and gave out lots of material and many of our business cards to those who attended. We were amazed at how many Christian women have Mormon friends and yet knew very little about Mormonism. They were shocked when they found out what they believed. One of the women, who had a table next to ours, wants me to come to her ministry and share my testimony with them. It was a very fruitful day and we pray that God will use the information we gave out to open many Christian s eyes as to the true beliefs of Mormonism. We hope these women will now be better equipped to witness to their LDS friends. # # # # # # # # Jenell s Jots & Tittles SALVATION FOUND ONLY IN MORMONISM? Since its very beginning, Mormonism has claimed that all Christian Churches were an abomination to God thus the need for a restoration. Joseph Smith claimed that when he was a young boy an unusual excitement on the subject of religion took place in the area where he lived. He stated that there were several churches involved and he did not know which one to join. He decided to go to some nearby woods (known today by Mormons as the sacred grove ) and pray about the matter. Smith claimed that while he was praying in the grove, he was visited by both God the Father and Jesus Christ. When he asked these personages which church he should join, he stated that he was told to join none of them for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight... (Joseph Smith History 1:19). This notion of an apostate Christianity was later spread to Mormon authorities and then passed on to their members. A few quotes to this effect are as follows: When the light came to me I saw that all the so-called Christian world was grovelling in darkness (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses Vol.5, p.73) We talk about Christianity, but it is a perfect pack of nonsense...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century. (Third President John Taylor, Journal of Discourses Vol.6, p.167)...all other churches are entirely destitute of all authority from God; and any person who receives Baptism or the Lord s supper from their hands will highly offend God, for he looks upon them as the most 1

corrupt of all people. Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the whore of Babylon whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness... (LDS Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p.255) While Mormonism now tries to publically downplay the fact that they alone have the truth, it is quite a different story amongst themselves. There are many references to document their current feelings regarding Christianity, but I will just give three from their Ensign magazines (an official publication). Through Joseph Smith have been restored all the powers, keys, teachings, and ordinances necessary for salvation and exaltation. You cannot go anywhere else in the world and get that. It is not to be found in any other church...salvation is to be found in one place alone, as so designated by the Lord Himself when He said that this is the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth (D&C 1:30). (Nov.2009, p.37) We declare in all solemnity, however, that we know salvation in the world to come is dependent upon accepting the gospel of Jesus Christ as taught in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (March 2002, p.4)...you will understand that the world has no access to atoning grace and salvation but through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (Aug.2014, p.36) While Mormons believe that the LDS church is the only true church, it exposes the fact that they do not understand even the basic fundamentals of Christianity. Jesus is the Head and His blood-washed believers are His body (Eph.1:22-23). It is people, not an organization that is the only true church. Christians go to church to worship, fellowship, and encourage one another (Heb.10:24-25), however, we all know that church membership does not save us. As it has been said, entering into a church does not make you a Christian any more than entering into a garage makes you a car. We are rescued from God s wrath, forgiven of our sins, and declared righteous before God solely by grace, through faith in Christ (Rom.3:21-28; Eph.2:8-9; Phil.3:8-9; Titus 3:5-7, etc.): And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12 NAS) CITATION OF CONCERN...Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; And she is the whore of all the earth. (Book of Mormon, 1 t Nephi 14:10) DESTROYED FOR A LACK OF KNOWLEDGE In John 7:40-53, we read of a group of people who were trying to figure out if Jesus was the promised Messiah or not. Some were sure He was, while others were convinced He could not possibly be the One because it was prophesied that the Christ would be born in Bethlehem and they knew he was from Galilee. Of course, we know from scripture that Jesus was born in Bethlehem and later came to live in Galilee. How sad that a group of people missed embracing their Messiah because of a lack of knowledge, a missing piece of information. Likewise, our hearts hurt for all the precious souls who are trapped in the cult of Mormonism because they have not researched its roots or that of its founder, Joseph Smith. All they know is what has been taught to them by other deceived people, generation upon generation, rather than researching for themselves with an open mind. There is so much information out there through books, DVD s, Christian ministries like ours, the Internet, etc. But Mormons, for the most part, are forbidden to look at or listen to any of these sources. 2

They have been duped into believing they have the truth and are actually fearful of seeing anything that might harm their testimony regarding Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon and the LDS church. Satan, who comes as an angel of light (2 Cor.11:14) has caused them to see Mormonism through rose colored glasses, a deceptive filter, if you will, that distorts and keep out the light of truth. That s the bad news, however, there is another side. For all of you that have Mormon relatives or acquaintances, please be encouraged in knowing that our faithful God has reached many of us who used to be Mormons and are now born-again believers. Our testimonies on how He moved on our behalf are nothing short of miraculous, so never give up praying and believing. We can read where Moses moved the hand of God through prayer (Ex.32:10-14) and James reminds us that the effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much (5:16). In Hosea 4:6, we read where God says: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.... We have many resources here at the EMFJ Center, including a library of Mormon books, where Mormons can research, in context, the true beliefs of their faith. It was Jesus who said And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32) We would love for you to invite (or bring) any Mormon you may know to come in to our Center and talk with us and check out our resources. After all, it was LDS President George A. Smith who told his people: If a faith will not bear to be investigated; if its preachers and professors are afraid to have it examined, their foundation must be very weak... (Journal of Discourses, Vol.14, p.216). THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BOOK OF MORMON Mormonism has always claimed that the Book of Mormon authenticated their religion. Joseph Smith said: Take away the Book of Mormon and the revelations, and where is our religion? We have none... ( Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p.71). President Ezra Taft Benson (1899-1994) stated: Just as the arch crumbles if the keystone is removed, so does all the Church stand or fall with the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon... ( Preach My Gospel: A guide to Missionary Service (2004, p.104). One last quote comes from Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as follows: Finally, conversion to the Book of Mormon is conversion to the divine, prophetic calling of the Prophet Joseph Smith. It is the divine evidence of the truthfulness of Joseph Smith s calling...to consider that everything of saving significance in the Church stands or falls in the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and, by implication, the Prophet Joseph Smith s account of how it came forth is as sobering as it is true...either the Book of Mormon is what the Prophet Joseph said it is, or this Church and its founder are false, a deception from the first instance onward... (Christ and the New Covenant (1997), p.345-346, as quoted in the Sept.2002 Ensign, p.14, my emphasis). Those are pretty strong claims. Obviously, they are meant to enforce confidence in the truthfulness of Mormonism to its people. Yet how ironic is it that the Book of Mormon can easily be exposed as a fraud to anyone who is just willing to look? To start, unlike the Bible, there is no archaeological support for the BOM. It has language, geographical, botanical, and zoological problems to name just a few. On the title page of the first edition of the BOM it says By Joseph Smith, Junior, Author and proprietor, which indicates one who composed and owned it. Additional evidence of this book being a fraud is found in the original edition. For instance, Alma 37:38, dated 73 B.C. speaks of the people using a compass. However, such an instrument was not invented until about 1100 A.D. 1Nephi 18:25, dated at 589 B.C. speaks of horses and asses. But these animals were unknown in the western hemisphere until the Spaniard introduce them about 450 years ago. 11 Nephi 29:3 reads, A Bible, A Bible... This is referring to the 3

Jewish Old Testament and is dated at about 550 B.C. However, the word Bible is the English transliteration of the Greek term biblos and came into use over 1500 years later. Besides the BOM people would not have even known what a Bible was in 550 B.C. And 111 Nephi 15:21(supposedly written in A.D. 34) is a word for word quote of John 10:16 of the King James Bible which wasn t written until 1611. Tto make matters worse, it even quotes the italicized word and which was supplied by the King James translators! In 1841 Smith declared that the BOM was - the most correct of any book on earth... yet the original edition had many errors in misspelled words and grammer. Just a few of the misspelled are as follows: journied (for journeyed), 1 Nephi 4:38; 5:6; 7:6; 18:25; 2 Nephi 5:7; Omni 1:16 bellowses (for bellows) 1 Nephi 17:11 feading (for feeding) Enos 1:20 sayeth (for saith) Mosiah 12:21 tempels (for temples) Alma 16:13 eatheth (for eateth) 3 Nephi 20:8 eigth (for eighth) Alma 53:23 A few of the grammar errors are as follows: And now behold the Lamanites could not retreat neither way (Helaman 1:31) That all might see the writing which he had wrote (Alma 46:19) they did not fight against God no more (Alma 23:7) the gates of hell is (111 Nephi 18:13) the law had ought to be done away (11 Nephi 25:17) which was wrote upon the plates (Alma 44:24) The above 1841 quote from Smith not only said that the BOM was the most correct of any book on earth but went on to say it was the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book. Yet how can one abide by its precepts when there is NO Mormon doctrine found in this keystone of their religion. No mention of temple marriages, baptism for the dead, a flesh and bone God, men becoming gods, three degrees of glory, a mother god, a Melchizedek or Aaronic Priesthood, etc. To overlook the fact that Mormonism s doctrine is completely missing is to ignore a huge red flag, which tells us that the Mormon people are brain-washed, plain and simple. Only the tip of the iceberg has been covered in this article. Since the 1830 edition, hundreds of changes have been made and yet most Mormons are not even aware of it. According to David Whitmer, one of the so-called three witness to a testimony appearing at the front of the BOM, felt there should be NO changes for he said: Thus the Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power of God and not by the power of man. (An Address To All Believers in Christ, p.12). Books and books have been written that exposes the BOM as a fraud. It truly is stranger than fiction how Mormonism can hold this badly flawed book up to be their proof of a true religion and Joseph Smith as a true prophet. End Note: for anyone interested in seeing these changes, we have a photocopy of the 1831 edition here at out Center. SUPPORT GROUP MEETING Our speaker for August 8 th is Cathi Avarbuch, an ex- Mormon who experienced demonic attacks when coming out of Mormonism. She will be sharing her experience plus her testimony. There will be a question and answer time as well as refreshments. All are welcome, those who want to learn more, those who need support and the Mormons themselves. The address is 671 N. Poplar Street in Orange. We look forward to seeing you there. # # # # # # # # ALL GIFTS DONATED TO EMFJ ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED AS WELL AS YOUR PRAYERS FOR THIS MINISTRY.
