INTENTIONS OF POPE FRANCIS FOR MAY Evangelization The Mission of Laity: That the lay faithful may fulfill their specific mission, by responding with creativity to the challenges that face the world today. SUNDAY: 6 MAY: 6TH SUNDAY OF EASTER FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, The month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Mother. This is a good time to start the habit of praying the rosary everyday and meditating on the life of Christ. Since Mother s day falls on May 13th this year, which is normally the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, we will wave our white handkerchiefs at the 4:00pm, 7:00am & 10:00am Masses on May 12th & May 13th. So please bring a white handkerchief. During this month of May we will be taking head counts at all Masses on the weekends throughout the Diocese of Lafayette. So please don t be surprised if you see someone doing that. Our musicians will be counting from the choir loft and I will find someone else from the 7:00am Masses. On Thursday June 7th we will celebrate the vigil of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus with a 5:00pm Holy Hour, 6:00pm Mass to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Diocese of Lafayette and a 7:00pm meal in the Commons area of the High school. We would like to know how people to prepare the food for so please call the rectory with the number in your group. This is for Sacred Heart parishioners including Belaire Cove and those who attend daily Mass at Sacred Heart. It is also for former parishioners who would like to come home and celebrate this. Please give us a call! Congratulations to our 24 newly confirmed by Bishop Jarrell last Wednesday night. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit keeps the fire in their hearts going. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Thomas Voorhies Lord, we pray that you will change the hearts of those who lead and influence us, give them the courage and moral fiber to speak out against and stop the sin of abortion, that America will regain its moral goodness and set an example for the rest of the world. Let us remember the Father s admonition in Deuteronomy; I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Choose therefore life, that both thou and thy seed may live. B Yo Mo a Ros O Mot s Da! The Sacred Heart FBLA students will be selling roses after the masses on Saturday, May 12th and Sunday, May 13th to help defray the cost of attending the FBLA National Conference in June. The roses will be $5.00 each. Thank you for supporting our students!

Tom s Joke of the Week Fr. Dixon had a problem; he had to ask the congregation to pledge more money for church repairs than they anticipated. On his way to the church, he asked the organist to be ready to play something suitable for the pledging. At the appropriate time, Fr. Dixon announced, Brothers & sisters, we are in great difficulty. Our roof repairs have run five thousand dollars over the estimated cost. That means we must raise that amount this morning. Any of you who are willing to increase your original pledge, please stand up. At that very moment the organist tore into The Star Spangled Banner. And the whole congregation stood. She is wife to Kyle and mother to four beautiful, lively girls. Missy is passionate about her Catholic faith and living it, and can t help sharing it with her world. Missy is an artist and teacher. Missy is blessed to have the opportunity to share her love of Jesus with the children at John Paul the Great Academy where she teaches Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and art classes. Missy had the distinct privilege of spending two years in formation with the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia in Nashville, TN. She counts those years as some of the most important in her life. Missy loves to travel, paint with her kids (and without!), go on dates with her husband, open her home to guests, be a friend to many, and just enjoy people. C t ia P a o t Dioc s o La a tt O Lord God Almighty, by sending Your only-begotten Son to establish the One True Church through the power of the Most Holy Spirit, You gave mankind a haven from the world. We humbly implore Your blessing upon the Church of the Diocese of Lafayette as we observe this Century of Love. Through the intercession of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and Saint John Vianney, our patrons, bestow perpetual growth to Your Family of Faith as we take refuge in Your Infinite Grace. We humbly beseech You to enlighten us to learn from our past and to look to the future so that we may persist in the work of spreading the true faith. Fill us with gratitude in this Year of Jubilee as we live secure in the certain hope that You will be with us forever. We ask this through Christ the Lord. Amen. Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, pray for us. St. John Vianney, pray for us. Lafleur (337-230-5811)
CENTENNIAL NEWS Month of Mary - Devotion to Our Lady has been a prominent theme of the people of the Diocese of Lafayette and of her Bishops. In 1953, Bishop Jeanmard asked for all families to pray the Rosary declaring: We do not place all our confidence in the atomic bomb or other lethal weapons of war, but in Jesus Christ and the intercession of our Blessed Mother to whom this Diocese owes so much. Jeanmard and Bishop Schexnayder s episcopal mottos, Sub Tuum Praesidium (Under Thy Protection) and Ad Te Clamamus (To Thee Do We Cry), are both taken from Marian prayers and express their devotion to her. Centennial Indulgence an indulgence granted by Pope Francis can be gained throughout this Centennial Year by all who visit our Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and pray the Centennial Prayer (with the usual conditions for an indulgence). Please see the Diocesan Webpage for more information. NECROLOGY: Please remember the souls of these departed Priests, Deacons, Bishops, and other religious who have served our Diocese: Sunday, May 6: Rev. Sylvio Auclair (+1991) Msgr. Henry Van Boxel (+2002); Monday, May 7: Msgr. A. Benedict Colliard (+1950) Deacon John Thibodeaux(+2012) DEVOTION OF THE MONTH May ~ Month of Our Lady In addition to the myriad feast days honoring Our Lady under her many titles and virtues, the entire month of May is especially given to her praise. In the words of Pope Paul VI, May is a month which the piety of the faithful has long dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God... For this is the month during which Christians, in their churches and their homes, offer the Virgin Mother more fervent and loving acts of homage and veneration; and it is the month in which a greater abundance of God s merciful gifts comes down to us from our Mother s throne.
