They will then plan another day in order to spend their time wisely. MATEIAS NEEDED: For this activity, you will need this Help Sheet, scissors, and the Wisest Way Schedule esson 8 from the esson Materials CD-OM. For each child you will need markers or crayons and the Wisest Way Schedule esson 8 from the esson Materials CD-OM. TO INTODUCE THE ACTIVITY SAY: 1. What is our Main Point today? (I Will Use My Time Wisely To Do What Is ight!) 2. That s right! We all have a certain amount of time in a day and we need to spend the time we have wisely. 3. No matter what we do we can never get time back. It s important therefore to use our time as wisely as possible. 4. Today, we are going to listen to a story and see if the person in the story used his or her time wisely. For detailed instructions on how to lead the activity, see the Small Group eader DVD. I have this piece of paper that is a schedule of a day. et s say that this is a schedule for your Monday. 2. We are going to listen to a pretend story of your day and see if you spent your time wisely. 3. The schedule starts at 7 to 8 am. So, in the morning you get up and want to read your Bible before you go to school. But you are still tired and decide to fall back asleep on the couch. Now it is 8 AM. This hour is gone and you didn t do what you planned to do. This hour was wasted. Note: Write in each section what was planned and then cut off each section after you finish talking about it. Tell the children that this hour is now gone and you cannot get it back. Continue in this manner for the rest of the schedule. 8-9AM. You ride the bus to school and plan on talking to your friends about Sunday and what you did at church. Instead you talk about the latest video game that came out. This hour was wasted. 9-10AM. You are at school and are supposed to be listening to your teacher, but instead you are passing notes to your friend. This hour was wasted. 1 CONTINUED ON PAGE 2

CONTINUED FOM PAGE 1 10-11AM. You work on an assignment that was given to you by your teacher. 11-12AM. You are eating lunch and wanted to invite one of your friends to church. Instead you eat your lunch without ever mentioning church. This hour was wasted. 12-1PM. You have recess and play basketball with your friends. 1-2PM. You continue your classwork after recess. 2-3PM. Your teacher hands out your homework and gives you time to begin working on it. 3-4PM. You ride the bus home from school and your friend asks what you did over the weekend. You tell him about playing at the park, but not about going to church. This hour was wasted. 4-5PM. You work on your homework for a little bit, and then you get to play your new video game until dinner. 5-6PM. You eat dinner with your family. 6-7PM. You are getting ready to go to bed and planned on praying to God, but instead you continue playing your video game. This hour was wasted. AFTE THE ACTIVITY SAY: 1. That was a full day of activities! In the story, you made time for lots of things, but some important things didn t get done. 2. What things did you plan to do, but didn t do? (ead my Bible. Pray. Talk to my friends about church. Invite my friends to church.) 3. When you didn t do what you had planned to do, those hours were wasted. 4. Even though we can t get wasted time back, we can plan to use time wisely in the future. 5. I am going to hand you your own blank schedule. This schedule can represent a day this next week. 6. I want you to plan to do the important things on this schedule, like reading your Bible, praying, and inviting friends to church. 7. After you schedule those things, you will see that there is still time to do other things as well. 8. Our time is important and we want to make sure we are spending our day in the wisest way. COSING STATEMENT: We need to spend time wisely because once that time is gone, we cannot get it back. We should always plan to read the Bible, pray, and invite others to church because those are wise ways to spend our time. 2

Fold the paper accordion style across each dotted line. 6. Now, you should have a Bible verse booklet that can fit in your pocket! AFTE THE ACTIVITY SAY: 1. You can carry this around with you and when you are waiting in the car or in line or anywhere, you can use your time wisely by learning these Bible verses. 2. Then you can use these verses to help tell others about Jesus. 3. Using this booklet will help you spend your time wisely. Ship To Shore Weekly eview Activity esson 8 I Will Use My Time Wisely To Do What Is ight! PUPOSE: This activity will review the lesson with the children and give them a reminder of the lesson to take home. DESCIPTION: In this activity, the children will use semaphore code to transmit and decode the Bible Verse reference. MATEIAS NEEDED: For this activity, you will need this Help Sheet, tape, a skateboard or scooter board, 2 pairs of flags or bandannas in contrasting colors, and the Ship To Shore Message Cards esson 8 from the esson Materials CD-OM. For each child, you will need pens or markers and the Ship To Shore Decoding Sheet esson 8 from the esson Materials CD-OM. Note: Use the tape to mark off an island where the group will stand. ine up the Ship To Shore Message Cards across the room from the group so that they can not see them. Place the flags with the Message Cards. Place the scooter near the island. TO INTODUCE THE ACTIVITY SAY: 1. This series takes place on the greatest cruise ship on the ocean, The Adventure! 2. Ships at sea use flags to relay messages during emergencies and today we are going to practice using the flag code, called semaphore code, to transmit a message across the room. For detailed instructions on how to lead the activity, see the Small Group eader DVD. Note: Give each child a Ship To Shore Decoding Sheet and something to write with. DUING THE ACTIVITY SAY: 1. One at a time you will swim over to the message by lying on the scooter and pulling with your arms or pushing with your feet. 2. Once a Swimmer has reached the message, he or she will stand on the far side of the cards and hold the red flag in the right hand and the blue flag in the left hand. 3. ooking down at the cards, the Swimmer will see a picture of how to hold the flags to show the group the code. This image is a mirror image of the ones in our coded message. Note: The card also has footprints and an arrow to help the children know how to stand, and a flipped image to show what the children across the room will see. 4. After showing us the code, the Swimmer will swim back to us. Then the next Swimmer will go. 5. We will keep going until we have decoded the entire message. 6. et s get started. Note: Keep the relay going until the message is decoded. Then look up the verse in the Bible and read it to the children. So be careful how you live. Don t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Ephesians 5:15-16 (NT) 1 CONTINUED ON PAGE 2

CONTINUED FOM PAGE 1 AFTE THE ACTIVITY SAY: 1. Opportunities to share the Good News with people could come up in our lives at any time. What does our Bible Verse say about what we should do with our opportunities? (Make the most of them.) 2. Making the most of our opportunities means that we are wise with how we use our time. 3. Paul had a limited amount of time in our Bible esson. He chose to use his time wisely to help the church and to teach others about Jesus. What is one way that he did that? (Wrote letters. Taught from his home.) 4. We should think about the way that we use our time and make sure that we are using it wisely. Are you spending time doing things that are useful for helping people hear about Jesus? Some of those things are taking time to pray, to read your Bible, to invite others to church, to tell about Jesus, and to help others. If so, you are doing some very wise things with your time. 5. If you aren t doing these things regularly, you should make time for them. What are some things you could do less of, to make more time in your schedule? (ess video games. ess sleeping in. ess sports that interfere with church.) 6. Using our time wisely does not mean never doing things that we enjoy, but it does mean doing wise things first. When we use our time wisely, we will have plenty of time and energy for everything we need or want to do. COSING STATEMENT: Use the code on your Ship To Shore Decoding Sheet to pass messages back and forth with a friend this week. As you share messages, take time to tell your friends about this lesson and invite them to come to church with you. When you do, you are helping to share the Good News about Jesus with your friends. 2
