Page: 1 Author: Yousri el-badri Mubarak Suffers Fresh Setback After Morsi Declared President Ousted president Hosni Mubarak suffered a setback in his health immediately after knowing about the victory of the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi in the presidential elections, well-informed sources told Al-Masry Al-Yom newspaper. Mubarak did not watch the press conference held by High Presidential Elections Commission Chairman Counselor Farouq Sultan to announce the results of the runoff. But he asked his medical team who won in the elections and when they told him it was Morsi, his blood pressure rose. His two sons, Alaa and Gamal, were in shock and disbelief inside their cell prisons in Tora. They watched the press conference separately. 8

Page: 5 Author: Mahmoud Gawish and Ebtessam Taalab Two Movements Announce Support for Morsi The National Association for Change and the April 6 Youth Movement announced their support for president-elect Mohamed Morsi and urged him to fulfill his pledges. Coordinator of the National Association for Change Abdel-Galil Mostafa said he was happier with the downfall of Ahmed Shafiq in the elections. Morsi has a chance to correct all the mistakes made during the transitional period, especially the Complementary Constitutional Declaration and a law granting military police and military intelligence officers the right to arrest civilians, Mostafa said. Meanwhile, founder of the April 6 Youth Movement Ahmed Maher said Morsi s success was a step forward for the revolution. The revolution still has a long path ahead and would continue until the presence of all Mubarak s remnants were uprooted from all the state s institutions, Maher said. April 6 will be the first to oppose Morsi if he backtracks on his pledges, Maher said. 9

Page: 5 Author: Mohamed Refaat, Wael Mohamed and Essam Abu-Sadera Tahrir Boiling with Joy over Morsi s Victory Cairo s Tahrir Square was overwhelmed with feelings of rejoice and happiness after Mohamed Morsi was declared the winner of the presidential race. Morsi is the first civilian president to rule Egypt since 1952. The square was packed to the brim with the Muslim Brotherhood members and revolutionary powers, who celebrated side by side the news. Some played patriotic songs, while others fired fireworks to express their joy. 10

Page: 5 Author: Alaa Sarhan and Omar el-nayal Shafiq Campaign Condemns SCAF Supporters of presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq and members of his electoral campaign were in disbelief and shock after the High Presidential Elections Commission declared Mohamed Morsi the winner of the polls. Their chants before the news were the exact opposite of those made after the announcement. Before the news, they chanted the people and army are one hand, but ironically were afterward changed into Down, down, military rule. They even chanted slogans against the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and its chief Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi. A number of the supporters held chairs in the street and started hurling them on passing cars to express their anger and dismay over the results. fire. They tore down some of the banners of Morsi in a nearby square and set them on 11

Page: 1 Author: Hussein Abdel-Halim and Tarek Roshdy Morsi Declared Egypt s President The High Presidential Elections Commission (HPEC) declared yesterday Muslim Brotherhood s Mohamed Morsi as Egypt s president. The official election results gave Morsi 51.7% of the votes against 48.3% for his rival, Ahmed Shafiq. The turnout was reported to be 51.6%. When the final announcement came, it instantly rippled through Tahrir Square, setting off fireworks, flag-waving and chants of "God is greatest". Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, SCAF Head, publicly sent his congratulations to Morsi. Military airplanes were flying above the Ministry of Interior premises when HPEC was announcing the results. CNN said that Shafiq s rejected challenges were enough to guarantee his winning over his rival Morsi if they were not rejected. Reuters said that Morsi s winning of the elections is a great achievement for Islamist parties. 13

Page: 1, 5 Author: Tarek Roshdy and others The Day of Announcing the Election Results Yesterday, the Ministry of Interior and the Armed Forces stepped up the security alert and imposed intensive security procedures and spread their forces to secure vital entities, banks and the ministry s premises. Calm spread in front of the Cabinet premises and governmental institutes witnessed a lot of chaos as the employees had to leave at 1:00 PM which led to a delay in the citizens requests. Citizens were worried and rallied to buy all the goods they need in case security chaos spread after announcing the results. 14

Pages: 1, 2, 3. Authors: Hoda Abu Bakr, Eman Al-Beseily (and others). Morsi Declared Egypt s New President In the first free elections after the January 25 revolution, Head of the Presidential Elections Commission Senior Judge Farouk Soltan officially declared Dr. Mohamed Morsi Egypt s new president. He said Morsi has won the presidential elections with 51.73% of the votes (13.230.181 votes), while his opponent Lieutenant General Ahmed Shafiq gained 48.27% (12.347.380 votes). The number of valid votes was 50.577.057 and the number of invalid or annulled votes was 843.252. Senior Judge Farouk Soltan said the number of appeals filed by the two contenders was 456 and the commission thoroughly examined them and listened to the arguments of the lawyers of the two candidates. According to Soltan, the commission accepted some of the appeals and rejected others. The commission focused on two types of appeals which could have invalidated the results of some of the polling stations; the first is related to stuffing ballot papers in favor of one of the two candidates and the second is related to preventing Coptic Christians from reaching polling stations to cast their votes in Al-Minya governorate. The commission said that the number of pre-filled ballot papers was only 2154 and they were invalidated and eliminated from the final results. The second appeal related to preventing voters from reaching polling station was denied as the commission found no evidence on groups preventing voters from reaching polling stations and it has also found the number of voters during the runoff to be 2464 with a minor increase than the number of voters during the first round of elections which was 2437. Senior Judge Farouk Soltan said the number of invalid results of polling stations was only 100 out of 13.099 polling stations. He said that violations and invalidated results of some of the polling stations did not affect the final results of elections. Soltan referred during the press conference to the harsh criticism leveled against the commission by some media channels and political forces. He reaffirmed the integrity of the commission and the neutrality of Egypt s judges. 15

Page: 3. Author: Safiya Hamdi. Tantawi Congratulates Morsi Head of the Supreme Council of Armed Forces Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi congratulated Dr. Mohamed Morsi on his presidential victory. Prime Minister Dr. Kamal El-Ganzouri sent a telegram to congratulate Morsi on his victory in the presidential race, wishing him luck and success. According to a statement issued by the cabinet, El-Ganzouri expressed his hope that stability returns to the country. Informed sources told Al-Tahrir newspaper that Dr. Kamal El- Ganzouri will hold a meeting today to announce the government s resignation. El-Ganzouri s government witnessed serious deadlocks with the FJP-led parliament. During the parliament s last days, FJP deputies had declared they will boycott all the meetings with El-Ganzouri. 16

Tahrir Celebrates Morsi s Victory With drums, dances and fireworks, Tahrir Square celebrated the victory of Dr. Mohamed Morsi, brining to minds the same celebrations which filled Tahrir Square after the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak. Immediately after the Presidential Elections Commission declared Dr. Mohmaed Morsi Egypt s new president and the loss of his opponent Ahmed Shafiq, Tahrir Square was full of joy and celebrations. Protesters confirmed they will remain in the square until the supplemental Constitutional Declaration, which limits the powers of the president, is eliminated. They chanted slogans such as As free revolutionaries, we will continue our journey, and Field Marshal; tell Sami Anan that the revolution is still alive in the square. The main stage of Tahrir Square declared that the sit-in will continue in Tahrir Square until the president assumes all its powers and the parliament return back to work. 17

Page: 3. Authors: Menna Sharaf El-Din, Raba Nour Al-Din (and others). El-Baradei Calls for National Unity Dr. Mohamed El-Baradei, co-founder of the Constitution Party, congratulated Dr. Mohamed Morsi for his presidential victory. He wrote on his official Twitter account that time has come for Egyptians to work to achieve national unity. Hamdeen Sabahy, former presidential candidate, issued a statement yesterday in which he congratulated Morsi on winning the elections. Our ethical and political alternative is to remain with the masses. As I have always been, I will remain with the lines of opposition while trying to unite revolutionary and secular forces to continue the goals of the revolution, Sabahy s statement said. Amr Moussa congratulated Morsi and wished him success in achieving national reconciliation. Also, Dr. Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, ex-contender, congratulated Morsi and called for uniting the efforts of all revolutionary forces to build Egypt s future. 18

Pages: 6 Author: many authors 3 Deaths and Dozens of Injuries in Tahrir Celebrations Like all Egyptian newspapers, al-shuroul reported on the results of the presidential runoffs and the reactions and celebrations in Egypt. Al-Shurouk reported that three people were killed in the demonstrations and celebrations in Tahrir while 21 were injured. 19

Page: 1. Author: Editor-in-Chief. Morsi is Officially Egypt s New President The results of presidential elections came to confirm what Youm 7 has published last Friday as the newspaper successfully predicted that the Presidential Elections Commission will declare Dr. Mohamed Morsi Egypt s new president. The newspaper exclusively published the types of appeals filed by the two contenders and published that the commission s decision will not be altered by those appeals. Despite of the fact that Youm 7 newspaper disagrees with the Muslim Brotherhood, but true principles of liberalism means we should respect the law and the general will of the people determined by their choice in the presidential elections. 20

Page: 4. Author: Ihsan Al-Sayed. Morsi s 100-Day Plan Egypt s elected President Dr. Mohamed Morsi determined a period of three months and 10 days to resolve the most critical issues in the country. He promised that the average citizen will begin to feel the change in the country after he adopts the 100-day plan. He promised to implement plans to resolve these crises in order to improve the lives of citizens. He said the average citizen will witness a change under the first elected president since the January 25 revolution. 21

Page: 3 Author: Mohamed el-fiqqi and Mostafa Abdo Crisis on 1 st Day: Morsi Campaign Insists on Parliament Oath In what could be a harbinger for a crisis between president-elect Mohamed Morsi and the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), the electoral campaign of Morsi is insisting that Morsi takes the constitutional oath before the elected parliament not before the Supreme Constitutional Court. Morsi should be sworn in before the People s Assembly, which was elected by the free will of the people, said campaign spokesman Yasser Ali. 22

Twitter @AsmaaMahfouz Now where are all those people who kept telling us Shafiq will win and that SCAF is preparing for another kill? I wish we stop spreading these rumors. Members of Parliament should enter the building and hold their session. Now that we have an elected parliament and an elected president, SCAF should not have any domination over them! @Arabist New on Arabist: Muslim Brotherhood Tallies and Keeping Egypt Honest http://arb.st/nbrg8u Catching with morsi s speech I am saddened he mentioned many buy had nary a word for the khawagas. #snif New on Arabist: President Morsi (for sure this time.)http://bit.ly/kvfkok I wonder if by the time. Or perhaps #DouchebagReasonsMorsiWon.#Egypt Later today I'll retweet all those voices whose position is, rather than the revolution succeeding, #Egypt has entered an "age of darkness". Having an intense awareness of your chains is necessary for freedom. If you think you're already free, there's no hope for liberation. 28

I don't have to respect your opinion. It could be terrible. What I must respect is your right to have an opinion, even if I don't like it. Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, but he enjoys it. Never kick a dead dog. It's kinda undignified to argue against someone when history itself declared their arguments extinct. When your opponent is hanging himself, give him more rope. When they're messing up, allow them to mess up completely. When faced with two diametrically opposite sides, the truth isn't necessarily somewhere in between. It could be that one side is total BS. @AalamWassef Translating a French tweet from @screaminsiren : "You voted for Not-Shafik just as we voted for Not-Sarkozy" #indeed Getting a lot of: "Oh Aalam you must be so disappointed Egypt is sinking into Islamism".
