F O C U S O N annual Cal-pac conference June 14, 2015 From June 17-20 the United Methodist Church in our regional Episcopal area gather for a session of the California-Pacific Annual Conference at the University of Redlands. First UMC will send 8 lay members and 4 clergy members. Our clergy members are Rev. Patricia Farris, Rev. Robert English, Rev. Keri Olsen, and Rev. Larry Young. Our lay members are Bee Campbell, Mary Crawford, Jack Fry, Adam Guerrero, Steve Harbison, Karen Ing, Jen Jacques, with Madeleine Ing as an Alternate. We asked some of the attendees what the conference means to them, and why they look forward to this year s conference: Attending Annual Conference is important to me because from there I get a larger picture of the church and its mission that I am a part of. The Annual Conference is a larger family of those who share my faith commitments, and it s inspiring to be with them again. Rev. Larry Young Attending Annual Conference is important to me as it is a way to enjoy the larger community of fellow church members, to participate in a huge congregation of singers, and to learn about the many varieties of missions and projects undertaken by other churches. This is one of the best ways to see and feel oneself as part of a connectional church, not just a single entity. Bee Campbell My favorite memories from past Annual Conferences come from being present at the confirmation and ordination of clergy members that I know personally. I am grateful for the opportunity to attend Annual Conference to experience the inspiration and contemplation that comes from being there. I can witness, at first-hand, issues that confront our church today, and be a part of the decisionmaking process that influences the future of the United Methodist Church. Jack Fry This Annual Conference I am most looking forward to the ordination of a number of my provisional clergy peers. They have been meaningful prayer and ministry partners over the last couple of years. I am excited to celebrate with them and the entire conference in their ordination as full connection elders! Rev. Keri Olsen My favorite memory from Annual Conference is when the youth and young adults set up a Box City on the grass near the chapel to draw attention to homelessness. Attending the conference keeps me plugged into the broader community of faith that I am a part of. I also love all the legislative stuff and am really interested in how our conference works.
