There are times when differences are just that: differences; and we are best served by respectfully learning and sharing without competition or correction. All of us in the Church experience some form of episcopal oversight; it is part of being in a community. And such oversight is done in different ways. On March 12 & 13 at San Pedro Center, 2400 Dike Road, Winter Park, Florida 32792 at a Florida Society of the Holy Trinity Chapter Retreat, a Roman Catholic, an Episcopal, a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and an Evangelical Lutheran Church Bishop will share what their experience is as one who exercises episcopal oversight. There will be three plenary sessions: the first will have each Bishop speak of their personal experience; the second will have each bishop engage the other bishops in conversation elicited by their first presentation; the third will be open to questions and comments from all. Bishop Brewer will be among the participating bishops. The Senior of the Society will also be in attendance and will lead the Tuesday morning Eucharist. STS Chapter members will lead the various prayers offices; and please know that as a STS Chapter Retreat we spend about as much time in prayer and worship as plenary. This is a perfect time to invite clerical colleagues of other traditions to join you in a unique Lenten devotion. Cost for the Retreat is $175. Details on the registration form included in this issue.

The Society of the Holy Trinity: Florida Chapter Societas Trinitatis Sanctae MARCH 12-13, 2018 RETREAT CONVERSATIONS FOR CLARITY & COMPARISON NOT COMPETITION OR CORRECTIONS: A BISHOPS ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION Most would agree that there is a remarkable sameness of mission for our various traditions and there is a remarkable divergence in how we go about that mission. It is the conceit of this event that each of us would be encouraged and supported as we attend with curiosity and respect how others serve this one Lord of all. The first session invites the bishops to share their personal experience in service; the second gives the opportunity for each bishop to engage the other bishops in further inquiry generated from the first session; and the third session is open to questions and comments from all in attendance. The following bishops have accepted the invitation to be with us for all or part of the time. Most Rev. John Noonan, Bishop of The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orlando The Rt. Rev. Gregory O. Brewer, Bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida Rev. Gregory S. Walton, District President, Florida-Georgia District Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Rev Matthew L. Riegel, Bishop, West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod, ELCA There is ongoing conversation with some other bishops who may also attend. I believe this to be a somewhat unique event. Please make your reservations early. Also remember that as a STS event, we spend about as much time in prayer and worship as in plenary. The complete expense for this Retreat is $175.00 and is payable in advance. We begin at noon Monday 12 March with lunch and conclude after lunch Tuesday 13 March. Check in begins @11:00 a.m. Monday. The location for all our retreats is: San Pedro Center; 2400 Dike Road; Winter Park, FL 32792 San Pedro s web page is: http://www.sanpedrocenter.org/ Participants are most often, but not limited to, ELCA, LCMS, NALC, ELCM, or LCMC clergy, as well as synodical & parish Deacons, Deacon Candidates, Diakonia participants and graduates, clergy of other traditions and laity are especially welcome. You need not be a member of The Society of the Holy Trinity to attend. Lodging is single; handicapped rooms are available. Lodging, conference & dining room, and chapel are each in their own buildings.

ABOUT THE SOCIETY OF THE HOLY TRINITY The purpose of the Society is to support Lutheran pastors in being faithful to their ordination vows in a time of doctrinal confusion and moral uncertainty. It also forms pastors in the practice of daily prayer and meditation on Holy Scripture; of using the daily Prayer Offices and the daily Lectionary of the Church; of living a life of obedience to Jesus; of going regularly on retreat; of engaging in mutual pastoral visitation; of using individual confession and absolution; of engaging in a disciplined study of Scripture, the Confessions, and the Church Fathers; of shaping a parish practice centered in the Word and the Sacraments; and of serving the cause of Christian unity, first, by being an inter-lutheran organization and, second, by working to heal the breach of the sixteenth century. The Society is not about one thing, but about forming the entire life of the pastor as a pastor. The format will be usual for a STS chapter retreat: prayer offices, Eucharist, presentation(s), discussion, fellowship, opportunity for individual Confession and Absolution, individual Rite of Healing, etc. REGISTRATION FORM Name: Mailing address: Contact phone number: E-mail address: ELCA ; LCMS ; WELS ; NALC ; CORE ; ELCM ; LCMC ; TEC ; RC ; BISHOP ; PRIEST ; DEACON ; SEMINARIAN ; DEACON CANDIDATE ; DIAKONIA ; LAITY ; STS Please make your check payable to STS FLORIDA CHAPTER with the notation STS 03/2018 RETREAT in the appropriate amount and mail with your registration form to: The Rev. Be still and know that I am God In a world that seems to grow continually busier, the idea of being still can seem like an impossible task. Maybe, despite the endless to-do lists, we can find ways in our hearts and souls to do just that. During our time together we will explore physical and spiritual stillness and how to find our own sense of calm, to which God calls us. Our theme sessions and workshops will give us tools to find our inner calm in the midst of a busy world. Along with the workshops, there will be times of fellowship and worship with music led by Clare Toy. How to apply that direction to living a peaceful and fulfilled life. Dance as Worship - Anne Fay, Holy Trinity Parishioner: And here we offer and present unto thee, O Lord, our selves, our souls and bodies (BCP, Holy Eucharist Rite I) How do we present our bodies to God? We will talk about physical expressions of worship in general and explore the use of interpretive dance to expand our experience in worship. You will leave this workshop with a loosely choreographed worship song. Wear comfortable clothing to bend and stretch in. We will dance barefoot or wear lightweight, slidey shoes / dance shoes. Mantle of Peace: Prayer Shawl Knitting - Amanda Peters, Holy Trinity Parishioner: Prayer shawl knitting is a worldwide, ecumenical ministry of people gathering to pray and knit for those in any kind of need. Prayer shawls are an expression of love and concern from the knitter and also of the loving care of God who works through them. Even if you have never knit one stitch or if you are a lifelong knitter, come immerse yourself in this contemplative discipline and learn a new way to pray! This peaceful ministry will help you be still and know God. Please bring $5 for supplies. If you have your own needles you are encouraged to bring them. Walk by Faith, Be Fit to Serve - The Rev. Pamela Easterday, Co-Rector at Holy Trinity: Just like the old saying, An apple a day keeps the doctor away, walking has very similar benefits. Add in a component of prayer and contemplation and you will not only strengthen your body but your spirit as well. Physical benefits of regular walking include: improved mood, gets your creative juices flowing, cut your risk of chronic disease, strengthen your bones and muscles, to name a few. When we take time to keep our bodies and minds fit, we can find ourselves more ready to serve God where we are called. Please wear good walking shoes and comfortable clothes. Sampling Prayer: Guides to Being Still and Knowing God - Patricia Oetting RN: There is no one size fits all way to pray. Join Patricia as she offers meditations on ways to try on prayer, to absorb Jesus, and to make room for the Lord s presence. This workshop will include time to explore prayer on your own and to be still and know God. Registration deadline: March 4 Space is limited, don t delay! Questions?
